This was my first foray into the western genre, and I definitely know it won't be my last. I've been wanting to try it out for a while now, and after one of my customers recommended "just picking any ole one up," that's exactly what I did. I went to the library and pulled the first Louis L'Amour I saw off of the shelf. Luck was definitely shining on me that day.

Every time I read a novel by Louis L'Amour, I am reminded why he is the King of Westerns. His novels are not of the "cookie-cutter" variety and this novel is vintage L'Amour. It is a story of revenge, and the strength of one woman's resolve to avenge the death of her young brother. But it is L'Amour's skillful use of flashback sequences which defines this book. What a great Western story! I picked this audio book up at the library and was not disappointed. Only 4.5 hours long, this story made my commute to and from work enjoyable. I actually could not wait to get in the car to listen to another great Western by Louis L’Amour. When I got out of the car I felt like I need to brush off the dust and check the car of bullet holes. This was the first Louis L'Amour book in a long while that I've picked up and suddenly couldn't put down. I grew up with various of his novels around the house since my father's a fan, but usually I browse a few pages and put them back. This time, I was hooked. I liked Conn's backstory (told in pieces that broke the main action up quite nicely), and loved Kate Lundy. A good old fashioned western, reminded me of John Wayne movies somewhat. The good guy, Conn Drury, has some gray areas in his past but is still your basic western hero. There's the good woman, the heroic and handsome Kate Drury and the bad guy from the east - Aaron McDonald and his wicked daughteer Linda.

Louis L'amour is probably North Dakotas most famous writer. While the writing in this book is a bit dated and uses phrases no longer used, one easily knows to what the writer is referring.
I liked this book even though I am not a huge western fan.

This was a fun, quick read. A very simple and predictable plot line, it was still enjoyable. While I generally hate romances, I have to admit that I like that fact that L'Amour always provides a happy (though sometimes sappy) ending.

Had not read a L'amour story in a while. This was a good one to start with. Good story that moves quickly. Brave hearted and honest man. Beautful and strong heroine. Real bad guy. What more could you ask for in a couple hour read.

Kiowa Trail is the perfect length for the story. The main character is well developed, smart and brave. Kate Lundy is an independant, strong woman, and I only wish L'Amour had revealed more about her, too. Great book!

An outstanding read! I am always impressed by L'Amour and how he develops his characters. This one is well worth it and it reads very fast.

If you like stories about good guys who kick butt and get the girl and the bad guys who get it in the end, read Louis L'amour. He also has a knack for describing scenery, and every canyon, spring, etc. he mentions truly exists. He was a great authority on the American Wild West which is not quite how Hollywood often portrays it.

Louis L'Amour is a great storyteller. I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy a western, but his writing kept me turning pages. This is a fast read, lots of action (gunfighting) and anticipation of what will happen next. I enjoyed the flashbacks to the main character's past.
