This is the first I have read of this series or author. Actually it was the first I heard of it too. I am really glad I read it and am looking for more in this series. It has a interesting cast of characters and that was just the people in the town we got to meet here. As the main setting is really just out of town I have a feeling there are a great many more to meet. And I am looking forward to reading more about them and what happens in their slightly crazy town.

Shelves: mystery, humor
This was an enjoyable read with a lot of fun elements--some gentle satire, a bit of a ghost story, Southern charm, magical realism, and a good mystery. The characters were endearing and interesting, quirky without being too much so; I especially liked Rachel, the town of Tranquility's very own Dr. Doolittle--with ferrets. People who like Susan Goodwill's mysteries and/or Sarah Addison Allen's Southern magical realism will probably like this one, too.
