This massive tome is a compilation of three books originally published under the series Understanding Physics: Motion, Sound and Heat; Light, Magnetism and Electricity; and The Proton, Neutron and Electron. It has since appeared as Understanding Physics (1993, Barnes & Noble Books). I recommend the latter edition, because in The History of Physics, the pages are numbered consecutively through all three volumes, but the index and cross-references in the text are numbered by volume and page w...more
