I loved this book and it made me long for the architecture that I came to know and love in Siena. This was so interesting to read, as Minchilli covered so much of the original function and practical reasons for the beautiful details of Italian farmhouses. I love that the aspects which seem to us charming and historic are so very utilitarian. This was so insightful to read in that respect and I loved pouring over the beautiful accompanying photographs.

Beautiful photos, but HELLO? If you are writing for the US market (and based on the use of feet and inches, the authors were), how can you not address, at least in passing, how to modify these ideas to conform to building codes in America? The stairs would give our inspectors a stroke. Not to mention the fireplaces.

Beautiful pictures. Great history of the building material, styles, types, and reasons why. For as big a book, it's a quick read.

An inspiring book for those who dream of renovating a house in Tuscany. We met the author Elizabeth at a book signing in Rome. She was so vibrant as is her husband Dominenic
