Old money and tradition are the hallmarks of the St. Louis prep school that Kiki's daughter Anya attends. But the elite academy is stamped with scandal when Anya finds the dead body of teacher Sissy Gilchris—and Anya might have seen the killer. This was a fun cozy about Kiki Lowenstein, a widow who works at a scrapbooking store. When Kiki's 12-year-old daughter and a friend discover one of their teachers murdered in the school theater, Kiki tries to protect her daughter while working to clear the teacher accused of the murder. Kiki is reunited with Chad Detweiler, the cop who broke her heart when she found out he was married. She also has a couple suitors who are actually single.

As for solving the murder, the more Kiki digs, the more b...more

This series just keeps getting better and better. Kiki is still working at the scrapbook store and creating marvelous pieces for her students and customers but her personal life is still a mess.

She and her daughter Anya have moved to a new house to get away from the person who killed her husband, with MIL Sheila's help. Anya is still going to the swanky school that Grandma is paying for and that is where the trouble starts. One of the teachers is killed and Anya and a close friend stumble into t...more

First off, from the title of this book and the previous two of the series, I opened the book, expecting a 'cozy' styled murder mystery. Well, it was a murder mystery alright, however, there was nothing cozy about it.

This is a solid murder mystery that covers multiple adult issues that plagued our society currently. The murders are shocking, the investigative sites are shocking, and the topics are, at times, beyond what may be comfortable for 'cozy' readers.

The only thing cozy about this book is...more

I did take a quick break from my library books to read a book just for me. Fun fluff. That's what the Kiki Lowenstein books are all about. If you love scrapbooking and you love mysteries, you'll love these books. It helps that I identify with frumpy housewife Kiki, even if I never had the pampered start to marriage that she did. A midwestern girl trying to find her way about upperclass St. Louis (where my family hailed from), Kiki is downright admirable in her fierce love for her daughter and he...more

I was so hoping this would be the last one. I really only started it because the second book ended on a cliffhanger I actually wanted to know about..only to have that cliffhanger not even addressed until halfway through the book (and even then, it was halfheartedly waved aside).

This series was, for me, a case of torn feelings. I like that more books are done in a scrapbooking theme, but dear god, don't these authors have halfway decent editors? Spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, inconsistenc...more

Book #3 in the series.

"Old money and tradition are the hallmarks of the St. Louis prep school that Kiki's daughter Anya attends. I like this series. For a cozy mystery in the setting of scrapbooking, it does well. It is not as mundane as some that are based around a creative interest. The characters are colorful and well drawn. I like Kiki. She is strong and smart and very human. She has her moments of weakness and madness like the rest of us. She is a widow raising a teenage daughter, attracted to a married man. She also was left nearly broke by her cheating husband. She hasn't had an easy time of it but she is figuring...more

The third outing in the Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-N-Craft Mystery series finds Kiki up to her armpits in murder. Again. But this time, the murder is much more troubling as it takes in Anya’s, her twelve-year-old daughter, school. And it isn’t Kiki who finds the body of an unpopular teacher, Sissy Gilchrist, it’s Anya and her friend, Tilly.

The girls attended a private prep school that is loaded with Old St. Louis money. Old, old money. The coach at the exclusive school (paid for by Anya’s grandmother...more

Anya Lowenstein, 12 year old daughter of Kiki, along with her friend Matilda, stumbled across the body of one of their teachers in the school's theatre. Not exactly a fun filled school day. It turns out the theatre had been used by some as a place for amorous dalliances but there were no romantic meetings there this day. Sissy Gilchrist did not die of natural causes, that's for sure!

Kiki's friend Detective Detweiler talks to her later and expresses his concern that maybe Anya and Matilda saw the...more

I'm not sure I'm going to read another one of these mysteries. The writing felt uneven and Kiki's character was confusing to me. Also, the scrapbook stuff definitely took a backseat and the one project they did work on didn't make sense. Several minor plot lines confused the main storyline and seemed to serve no purpose. I really want to like these, but after three I think I've given it my best attempt and since I don't have a lot of spare time for reading I'm going to have to take this series o...more

This was a quick read - the third in the series starring Kiki Lowenstein, a young widow with a daughter. Kiki works in a scrapbook store and deals with lack of finances & a wealthy & overbearing snob of a mother-in-law.

It was an okay book. The author just doesn't seem to have the same level of craft as I really expect from my mystery authors. I'm giving her one more chance with the 4th book of the series that is ready for me to pick up at the library.

This is a very disappointing third entry in the series. In this one Kiki gets involved with a murder at her daughter's private school. There's all kinds of racism, class wars, and just plain foolishness going on.

There's also way too much mooning over the cop who investigated her husband's murder in the first book. Turns out the guy is married and didn't tell her. That doesn't stop her from talking about him in every chapter.

Personally, I found this a big turn off.

Kiki is a master scrapbooker with a nose for trouble. This time it comes looking for her by way of Detective Detweiller, whom Kiki has recently found out is married. Sworn to stay away from him, he now needs her help in finding the killer of a teacher at her daughter's very private school.
This 3rd in the series of Kiki Lowenstein's adventures as an amatuer slueth, while funny, was not nearly as good as the 2nd in the series.

The author has an interesting way of telling a story. Her heroine, Kiki is fun. She is an every day sort of person trying to find her place amongst the wealthy and prominent denizens of St. Louis and the fancy school her daughter Anya attends. Kiki works at a scrapbook store. Her husband is dead and her mother-in-law Sheila dislikes her.
The author finished this book with some interesting life philosophies.

I loved the ending to this book and was completely suprised about the murderer. The main character is very funny with characteristics that are found in all of us (especially if you are addicted to scrapbooking and saving your photos in more than one place).

I like this series! The books are quick, enjoyable reads, a bit fluffy, but somehow compelling. You don't have to be a scrapbooker to enjoy them, but if you are, you will better understand the protagonist's interest in crafting.
Mare
Kiki is a protag who just keeps getting better. The secondary cast is also growing at a comfortable pace into a group of people I enjoy spending time with while they try to sort out the latest disaster to befall the group.

What can I say? These Kiki Lowenstein mysteries are not Shakespeare, or even Agatha Christie, but they're lots of fun to read. NOT YA, more like chick-lit, but Kiki could be anyone you know, or you. I've read two now, and there's another one on my lap, ready to go.

Another good book in the Kiki series.

I got a little confused with all of the female characters, but eventually I got it under control.

Did not see the ending coming though.

On to the next one.

While there were parts I started to skip over, I enjoyed the book. It made me laugh out loud at the beginning which is always a good sign for me.

I enjoyed the interior life of the main character.

This book moved a bit slow and Kiki was super annoying with mooning over Detweiler. It was an okay book. Nothing fabulous, but not bad enough for me to put down without finishing.

3rd book in a scrapbooking cozy mystery series. As a scrapbooker, it's fun to see how scrapbook items figure into the story.

Cliffhanger! Now I have to read the next one to see what will happen next with Kiki and the detective.
