The next asteroid the Little Prince came to was inhabited by a Quiz Addict. He sat hunched in front of his laptop, and barely looked up when the Little Prince greeted him. There was nowhere else to sit, since the whole asteroid was covered in books.
"Good morning!" said the Little Prince.
"I'm sorry, I don't have time to talk to you," said the Quiz Addict. "I am very busy. Wait. In Twilight, what color was Edward's car?"
"I don't know," said the Little Prince. "I have never read this book Twilight. More...

A "Daddy/Daughter nighttime reading hour" review
This was a toughy for me to review. I wasn't sure of the best perspective from which to provide comments so as to be of assistance to my fellow readers since this is a children's book (rather than YA which would be reviewed purely on its own merits). After a short session of "what should I do," I bravely decided to punt, figuring that there are already more than enough excellent reviews of this without my clogging up the cyber arteries with another More...

Review After Re-Reading - February 9, 2012
Rating: 3 stars!
Although I still liked it, I have to lower the rating by two stars because:
Rating: 3 stars!
Although I still liked it, I have to lower the rating by two stars because:
1. The book is really intended for children as it is very whimsical and illogical. We husbands cannot give an empty wallet to our wives and tell them that there is our salary inside and expect them to be happy. Honey, here is my wallet, what is essential is invisible to your eyes!More...

Written as a children's book, I find myself unable to pin down firmly as to what makes The Little Prince such a universally likeable book, be it children or grown-ups. What makes it the Hotel California of literature?
Is it because most grown-ups secretly love being treated like kids? I think as a grown-up you ought to know better than that. Grown-ups like to be petted around now and then in jest, but that's the end of it. Often, when grown-ups are indeed treated like kids and they're not in the More...

I'm going to need to explain the roll of my eyes, sigh, and groan of frustration I felt just seeing the name of this book. I have read this for so many french classes, I cannot tell you. It's all about life and the right reasons for living it. It was great when I was starting to learn french in about seventh grade. By senior year of high school? It had become.. tired to say the least.
However. It's lovely, there are some great quotable quotes that come out of it, pretty language, and a lots of sw More...

There's a huge place in my heart for this little world-in-a-book; I read it first when I was wee, again many times since. A review won't do it justice, so I'll quote one of my favorite passages and risk sentimentality:
---
"Nothing is perfect," sighed the fox.
But he came back to his idea.
"My life's very monotonous," he said. "I hunt chickens; men hunt me.
All chickens are just alike, and all the men are just alike.
And in consequence, I am a little bored.

We are all children in adults bodies. Yes we are, don't think we aren't for one moment. The fact that we WERE, indeed, children, is a huge part of each of us. It is possible to shed a few appreciative tears on every page of this book if you entertain the thought that the pilot IS The Little Prince. Maybe you won't think that--maybe you'll have your own take on the book---that's the magic about it. This book is translated to English from French. If you understand and/or appreciate French, the del More...

This was a lovely book. I especially like the biography of the author, which isn't technically part of the book. He sounds like one of those fabulously daring, hot guys that I would fall in love with, only to find out later that he's gay. As for the book itself, I enjoyed the illustrations, and it was a cute story. I liked the drawing of the boa who had swallowed an elephant. I didn't think it was a hat when I first saw it, I had no idea WHAT it was. My problem is, I think I am way too far gone More...

It was the first time in quite a while that I'd seen my uncle. He had crossed the country to visit us. When he reached our house, he hugged and kissed us all, then pulled out the English version of this book.
"This is for you," he said, "and on the next starry night, I'm going to read it to you."
I gave him a puzzled look.
He explained, "you have to read this on a night when you can see the stars. Don't worry, you'll understand."
The starry night came, and we settled in for a few hours of reading. A More...

By the time I actually got round to reading this, I was too jaded by the realities of life to take the book's idealism and naive wonder at the insane workings of human nature seriously. The author portrays completely one dimensional ideas which really don't work in a three dimensional world... no matter how cutesy.
So, who is this book written for? Despite the writer's claims, I have a hard time deciding. It seems to be too self righteous and full of platitudes to be really enjoyable to an older More...

In a grimy underground locked public toilet The Little Prince wakes slowly, he’s been out cold for hours. He’s bleeding from a gash on his upper arm. He finds he is chained by leg irons to the wall. There is another person sharing his predicament. It’s a bear, also chained to the opposite wall. In the center of the floor is the corpse of what appears to be donkey in a pool of blood. Near the corpse are a gun, a tape recorder and a saw.

Much more heartfelt than your usual constructed new age mysticism, but still falls to false separations and idealism. This is achieved by the inclusion of representational figures which do not stand in allegorically, but rather conceptually, and hence become not pure symbols but a set of tools for the construction of different philosophical scenarios.
The book also presents the requisite complexity needed for a holistic view of emotions and interaction, but falls to the very French fault of the More...

"Once upon a time there was a little prince who lived on a planet that was scarcely any bigger than himself, and who had need of a sheep . . ."
To those who understand life, that would have given a much greater air of truth to my story.
This was a cute short story, obviously meant for children; however, I don't feel as if children would be able to understand this on their own. A bit too deep and philosophical for the average kid. Cute illustrations.

This was a charming little book about a Little Prince who was from a small planet. This Little Prince decided to go on a journey and after meeting all kinds of planets and their owners, he finally lands on Earth.
Lots of people say that this book is full of meaning and others say that they couldn't see the meanings. Me, I just read it and enjoyed it as a tale that was almost like an Aesop fable. A darling story that also had a moral cast to it. What was the moral? To take time, not to be caught More...

"..the little prince, who never let go of a question once he had asked it."
that's one of my favorite lines from this story.
that huge curiosity that every children has. the kind of curiosity that should never ever been forgotten once you grow up .. once you become adult .
it's one of the best selling books ever ? it is so not overrated. it's highly recommendable for anyone , any age , any gender , well anyone really ;)

I really hate giving books even slightly negative reviews, especially books that other people love. And a lot of people seem to really love this book. It’s gotten good reviews by my friends on Goodreads. People who like it might say it’s “charming” or “whimsical” or “lovely” or “imaginative.”
Unfortunately, even though so many others adore this book, I can’t say I liked it. At all. Actually, in my opinion, the best thing it has going for it is that it’s only 83 pages (several of which are filled More...

I read this book because I believed that it was a classic and that I would be missing out on something special, like The Phantom Tollbooth. This book was very bizarre, I couldn't get past its strangeness. The first couple of pages seemed fairly decent and I thought that I was going to be in for a treat. But then its shine wore off and I was wondering what was going on. The author left a lot of things unsaid and just went on with his random little monologue.

Grown -ups are really very odd.
I don't know what I like about this book, but I know that it keeps me smiling.
This little prince reminds me of my self:
when I was three years old, I had a doll, not like any doll, it was a blender ( an electric orange blender).

I cryed my eyes out, and I kept saying (عروستي،عروستي).

One novel metaphor of looking at life and love through the eyes of an alien child. Beautiful philosophy of life and love communicated here, the wonder and the mystery of it. The boy's innocent, yet loyal relationship with the flower, leaves me with the question: Should we love only those whom are deserving of love, whom are capable of loving us back? Or do we love whole-heartedly whether we get love in return or not? And, how do we replenish the well of love if we keep giving out and do not rece More...

I read this for the second time because I felt that I "under-read" (pardon me if I invent words) the first time. And indeed! I found much appreciation for my second reading.
Many readers categorise this to children's shelves. And it really is. However, like many readers, I found this book more than to keep it under children's section.
If we try to consider and understand the event which made Exupery to give birth to this little prince, maybe most of us felt that Exupery did not meant this book be More...

I first learned about the Little Prince in one of the my values education lesson back in high school. Our lesson then was about friendship and the excerpt of story of the Little Prince and the fox was used as an example of how friendship is formed among individuals in the textbook we are using that time. I didn't know about the beauty of the book then until a college friend of mine told me how she loved this book.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was an aviator. He was also an artist of boa constrictors eating elephants. He tried drawing this in two ways. First he drew a great big boa constrictor, swollen with the elephant he had just eaten. The adults around him smiled and told him it was a very nice picture of a hat.
He then drew a boa constrictor, swollen with an elephant inside but made it transparent so that the silly adults could understand what he had drawn. They saw it and began worrying for him.
He gave up More...
