This book does just what a picture book should do - tells a story with economy, with perfect page turns, with illustrations which enrich (not just echo) the text. Compound words, all linked to light - flashlight, nightlight, moonlight, firelight, etc. - provide a minimalist story which moves from a young girl arriving home at dusk, to a backyard cookout, to shadows on the wall, to fireflies, to a dark room where the girl, now all tucked into bed, looks out her window at the moonlight. This is a story about a Little Red Hen who is trying to make a pizza. She realizes she does not have the necessary ingredients or utensils to make a pizza so she asks her friends for help. She continuously asks them for different things and they keep saying "NO". This book describes the utensils and ingredients that are needed to make a pizza and then shows how to make it. The book has a cute ending. This book could be used in a lesson on food and what ingredients you need or utensils,

I loved the pictures in this book for their coloring and the amount of texture in them.
The illustrator of this children's picture book did not waste an inch of the pages. There was no border surrounding the images around the edge of the page. There was very intricate detail using a variety of the different types of lines. All of the pages were in full color because it was night out. What I thought was most impressive, however, was the use of texture in each picture. There appear More...

Just a few words on each page with the illustrations telling most of the story, as we move from "streetlights" and a little girl getting home at night, to "firelight" with a camp fire in the back yard, to "night lights" at bed time. Cute idea, but the illustrations weren't really my favorite style so that probably kept this from being a four-star book for me.

This book is good for showing children different sources of light. The text is restricted to using only words naming a source of light on the page. This would be a good book to read to younger students, but could also act as a good resource (for science and spelling) in first or second grade when learning about sources of light.

Gal uses the word light somehow on each page to tell this story of a girl and her dog getting ready for bed. A simple, graceful story illustrated with fabric patterns that invite closer inspection. Each time I look through the book I find something new in each picture.

In this new author/illustrators book, she tells a de"light"ful story of a child's nighttime routine through the many lights that she sees. There are street lights, night lights, star lights and good nights. This would be a good book to read to a child falling to sleep.

Jules offered a sneak peak at Night Lights ... and great visuals in her Poetry Friday review at 7Imp. I have since seen reviews lots of places, and they only strengthen my resolve to read it.

So cute--very few words, just great illustrations of different lights throughout a girl's evening (which includes her dog's birthday party!) I especially love the thunderstorm, and the raccoons being caught with the bag of marshmallows....

As my youngest navigates the unpredictable rules of our crazy language, it's nice to find a predictable book where he can feel successful "reading" along with me. Night light, flash light, fire light...

Shadows and color is used very effectively here. The very simple text makes this usable with a young child, but there's enough here to hold older kids as well--details to look at and things to think about.

Love Gal's illustrations. They really tell the story without the text, minimal that it is. Really love that on the "night light" page the girl and her dog are reading _Harry the Dirty Dog_!

The text is simple, and flows well from beginning to bedtime. The lights at night almost seem like they are actually glowing in the illustrations that so perfectly accompany the text.

This book shows different sources of light that can be used at night. The different sources of light are different. Some are used inside and others are used outside.

Bedtime story...best for own children than group setting...illustrations add humor to the sparse text related to different kinds of light one may see at nighttime.

A great read aloud for language learners. A book about all the different ways people make light at night. Very good book for beginners with fun illustrations.

The text is succinct and brilliant, though I don't love the illustrations.

This story in this book is told mainly through the pictures. Each page depicts a different kind of nighttime light. The pictures tell the story of a nighttime birthday party and bedtime rituals. Cute.

Wonderfully simple and beautifully illustrated. A great bedtime book for even the youngest listeners. I think if we read this one again, I'll let my 4 yr old try it.

My 3 year olds favorite book right now! We love it! It really helped his fear of the dark! Thank you Susan Gal!!

a softly illustrated book about the different types of light at night. Cute to read to little ones at bedtime!

An almost wordless book. Wonderful illustrations. Would be good one on one, or possibly for a bedtime storytime.

Super simple text, but a nice idea thread and some very nice illustrations. LOVE the raccoons caught-in-the-act!

A little too detailed for the typical concept book audience, but good for preschoolers to stretch imagination.

This isn't really a story - just a list of many different types of light. I quite liked it though.
