Are you tired of "wallpaper" historical romances where the only thing hinting at the stories' period setting is a date provided at the beginning of the book or some vague description of the characters' clothing? If you are, this book might be what you're looking for, as real characters and events play important roles in the story.

The year is 1685 and James of York has just ascended the throne of England as King James II, in a time when the fight for power between Protestant More...

"Ravished by a Highlander" was a rare mix of in-depth historical and political details combined with a moving, emotional love story. It's pretty unique for an author to succeed so well at both ends of the spectrum.

Davina has been hidden away in a convent for her whole life in order to protect her from political plots to kill her. Everything comes to a peak when the entire abbey and the soldiers guarding her perish in an attack. Fatefully, the son of a Scottish laird, Robert More...

At first I was a little squeamish about seeing Robert as a fully grown and drool-worthy man. In the book I read before this he was a baby hanging on his mother's hip. I never had gotten the chance to see him as a grown up before, so I almost felt a bit "cougarish" reading about his rippling muscles and his low-hanging kilt. But, being the great author she is, Paula Quinn helped me overcome my awkwardness. I will say that I loved that she still gave Robert moments of panic at the th More...

I thought after reading the 4 previous Historicals about the Campbell, MacGregors, Stuarts and Grants I was prepared for this story. I was mistaken in the assumption that Robert and Davina's story could not be better than the previous reads. Wrong!!! Book 1 in the Children Of The Mist series captures the reader from the first page. From beginning, middle to the end Paula Quinn never lets you go. We have been brought to this point with the stories proceeding Ravished so that by the time we open t More...

***IMPORTANT NOTE*** I strongly suggest you read "LAIRD OF THE MIST" and "HIGHLANDER NEVER SURRENDERS" (BeFoRe) you read this book

AUTHOR: I really appreciate Paula's twist on history. She makes sure this book had plenty of dialogue and plenty of action and adventure.

SYNOPSIS: Davina's existence has been hidden away in St Christopher Abbey since she was born. Guarded by the King's soldiers. Rob rescues her when enemy soldier's attack and burn the convent to More...

After reading Outlander I've been having a pretty massive obsession with books about the Highlands and the fascinating, albeit in this case, fictional men that inhabit them.

Compared to the books in the Outlander series, of which every installment is a veritable tome, this book was a relatively quick read, but not in a bad or frivolous way.

While the book is clearly a romance, the author seems to genuiely care somewhat about historical context and she seems to have done h More...

Mmmmmm....Robert MacGregor.....tall, handsome, dark curls, a dimpled chin, vivid blue eyes, muscles rippling as he handles his claymore with the greatest of ease, utterly devoted to those he loves....delicious. And though his looks are enough to slay any lass, his words are a whisper upon your heart:

"Davina". He was there, above her, his breath hot against her mouth. She opened her eyes to him, ashamed of her tears, and then astounded to see them in his eyes as well. "I More...

I enjoy the historical romances with loyal, protective, and kind Scottish warriors who fall for intelligent, independent and witty young women. In Ravished by a Highlander Paula Quinn introduces us to Davina Montgomery, a beautiful English lady who is of such high birth that she's been hidden for most of her life. We don't know who she is exactly, just that she's surrounded by soldiers and nuns in the middle of nowhere.

Somehow, four Scottish warriors come across Davina just as the More...

This book was so full of anticipation, and yet there was so much that was a surprise. There was so much that I was waiting to have happen, and then there was so much that I didn't expect to happen while waiting for the other stuff to happen.

I really liked this one. Davina was so naive and yet so smart and cunning. I don't really know what to think about her. She was a good character, but it seemed just as you got used to her one way there was an added dimension that I didn't expect More...

Paula Quinn crafts a story in such an emotionally vivid way that each characters true feelings leaps off the pages.

Ravished by a Highlander is mysterious tale of forbidden love and desire. Forced together by betrayal, a secretive English woman and a strong Scottish Warrior must fight to keep the truth of her birthright hidden for it has the power to change the structure of the Crown. There were so many elements of this story that reminded me of Julie Garwood’s historical novels such More...

4.5 Stars if I could. I put off reading this book simply because of the title. I even forgot I had purchased it well over a year ago and it was sitting in my to read pile collecting dust. Not even thinking I had just read PQ's two books that spurred this series. And I liked the MacGregors, but I wasn't rushing to move on in the series. It just so happened I ended my last book and it was late so I just wanted something to take my mind off the Sunday evening blues thinking it to be a quick read. I More...

The year is 1685. Robert "Rob" MacGregor is the first-born son and heir apparent of the MacGregors of Skye, one of the most powerful but mysterious clans in Scotland. Rob is a well-honed, disciplined and driven warrior who has been trained from birth to be a leader with the protection and welfare of his family and clan foremost in his heart and mind. As a result, for years he has put aside his own pleasures, honing his swordplay and making decisions for the clan alongside his father, a More...

I really enjoyed this book. From the charismatic characters, to the fast pace of the book, to the intrigue and the story lines.

Ravished by a Highlander is an exciting combination of historical fact and fiction, where the romantic angle doesn't overshadow the storyline.

The main male lead, Robert MacGregor is not your ordinary eye-candy of a Scot. His character has a deeper connection to his surroundings. He's responsible, takes care of the safety of his clan, intelligent, More...

Davina Montgomery is destined to live in an abbey alone with nuns because of who her parents are. She has soldiers who constantly watch over her to protect her from an army that is sure to come for her. When the army does come and her soliders can no longer protect her, she is saved by a brave highlander.

I'm not sure what it was about author's writing that made it necessary for me to go back and re-read short sections. The dialogue, especially, was sometimes difficult to follow. More...

Review by Jen: When Paula Quinn asked me if I wanted to read Ravished by a Highlander, I jumped at the chance. I've been wanting to read Paula's books and I love highlander stories. And let me tell you, this book did not disappoint.

I adored the characters of Robert and Davina. Robert is that fantasy highlander... powerful and strong, yet loving and tender and willing to do anything to protect his woman. Davina is a woman with a very important secret... and a woman with men hunting her. More...

Davina Montgomery has spent her life hidden. When her enemies attack she is saved by a handsome Highlander named Robert. He alters his plans to meet his family in England, and vows to keep Davina safe. The attraction between them can’t be denied, but Davina is worried her true identity will bring harm to him and his entire clan.

Ravished by a Highlander was so much more than I thought it would be- full of historical details and an emotional, moving love story. And let's not pretend that the cover of this novel doesn't make you want to nose dive into the story either, ladies. ;)

Ravished by a Highlander is a tale about forbidden love between two unlikely people. Caught in the web that is English politics in the middle ages, a secret can destroy the lives of both in a way that neither are prepared for.

I borrowed this from the library due to my sudden fascination with books about highlanders. I picked it up somewhat dubiously when I got home and barely put it down until after I had read it. The story was an engaging mix of romance and history, using real historical characters to give it a slight edge. I can only imagine how hard it is to get the balance of historical accuracy and sexy romance just right but Paula Quinn managed very well. I did find myself getting slightly annoyed at the heroin More...

I am in love with this family. I've been following the MacGregor clan since Laird of the Mist (aslo an awesome read!) In this book we meet Callum’s son Rob MacGregor, son of Callum MacGregor, who we met in Laird of the Mist. Robert is on his way to England for the coronation of the new king when he finds himself in the middle of a massacre. He intervenes and rescues Lady Davina. Although he finds out that she is a threat to him and his clan, he finds that his heart will not let her go.

Davina Montgomery is a lovely and caring woman and has a dangerous secret. She is the eldest daughter of King James of England and has been cloistered away in St. Christopher’s Abbey all of her life. Men close to the King have found out her hiding place and have sent an army to kill her.

Robert MacGregor is a rugged and brave highlander who happened to save Davina from a massacre at the Abbey and now no one will get in his way to protect her, not even the King.

I really enjoyed this book. So many historical fictions have these "strong" women in them that are just annoying. They're shrill and high strung and overly opinionated. This book did not have that problem. I really liked Davina. She was the 'damsel in distress' without being useless and she was strong and brave without being overbearing and irritating. Rob was also a good main 'hero'. He was devoted to her without being controlling and protected her without being a hovering pain in the More...

I have to admit that at first I thought this was a hoax. I received this book in the mail, opened it and said, "Uhhh...This must be a mistake." Surprise! It's a free book from goodreads.com! I could feel the love that Davina and Rob had for each other leaping off of the pages. They were both fantastic characters and I would not have changed a thing about them. A historical romance, emphasis on the romance, set in the United Kingdom of James II, House of Stuart. Rob MacGregor is stopping by a convent, en route to the King's coronation in London, to visit his former nurse and discovers that it's under attack. All the nuns have been killed except for a novice and a wounded English soldier, who asks Rob to take the novice to safety. . . . And so begins the tale.

I really enjoyed this book, because of the historical setting. I like how the romance is built around historical facts to make the plot more interesting. I always enjoy reading about Scottish history, and how passionate the Scots are about fighting for their beliefs and culture. Although most Scottish history is tragic, this author manages to express the brighter side and the connection within the clan. The connection between the hero and heroine wasn't quite that strong, but their declarations More...
