Promises in Death, Kindred in Death, Ritual in Death, and Missing in Death by J.D. Robb - Two full-length novels and two novellas (I never read the other stories in those short story compilation books) and I only have the most recent book in the series and I'll be caught up at last. I really liked Kindred. It would probably make my top five in the series. I've definitely enjoyed the series. The characters are great, the sex is great , the humor is great. But I'm also glad I didn't invest i...more
This is one of those books where you expect plausible explanations with a good chunk of logic, suspense and fast-paced thrill. Sadly, this book did not deliver.
The beginning was quite suspenseful though as I began to think about how the murderer worked out the "missing" body and where the "missing" passenger has gone for an hour without being seen by anyone. But the ending was so bad it was just...stupid. The explanation was all this futuristic mumbo jumbo which did...more

This story originally appears in the anthology The Lost but in all honesty, I didn’t read the other stories. I usually don’t read anthologies because the stories are too short for my liking and don’t seem to satisfy. Also, they are usually part of a bigger series and they don’t seem to flow with the rest of the series they are a part of. But when it comes to Lieutenant Eve Dallas, Roarke, Peabody and the gang, a little bit of a story is better than nothing. I love this series so much and am ...more
I think this may be the only In Death book I've ever not enjoyed. This is the second one of the novellas that I've listened to in audio and I didn't like the narrator the first time around and I still don't like her with this book. I can't stand the voice she uses for Peabody, which makes her sound like a stupid hick, and the narrator mispronounced words like "secret" (she instead pronounced it as "secrete". So someone was going to "secrete" the body. No no no) and ...more
Enjoyed the audio version of this book while traveling read by Susan Ericksen. She is talented at creating different voices, tones and accents for the characters. It was odd hearing her take on what they might sound like after reading around thirty books in this series with the voice I had assigned them. The voice she gave Peabody didn't ring true for me at all! I hated it!
The story was great as usual.

Eva Dallas and her team are in search of a killer who murdered a woman in a ferry’s bathroom, moved the murdered woman’s body off the ferry without being seen then stole memories of the only witness. This was a puzzle that wasn’t easily solved.
Missing in Death was a good read and Susan Ericksen did a fantastic job in storytelling.

I would rate this a 3 1/2 only because it felt abridged to me so I didn't get the total feel of the entire book and the whole play of Sommerset and Dallas or Shebody and McNabb icking Dallas out! All in all the story was good as ever and very enjoyable.
I hate to say it, but this one was just super boring. It seems like it was a full sized book with giant chunks taken out to fit the requirement as part of an anthology. The ending was not at all satisfying.

This was a short and very entertaining story. I listened to the audio version and as always Susan Erickson does an superb job. Eve and Roarke will never get old for me.
More novella than novel but on par with the rest of this series. I tend to like long books, the longer the better if there good. So this is a bit short for my liking.
Two-haiku review:
Murder on ferry?
Woman missing, blood on floor.
Eve investigates.
She's balanced on line:
Duty, justice, right and wrong.
How can she decide?

This was just a novella but it took me forever to read it. I just couldn't seem to connect. Oh well. On to the next Eve and Roarke book.
4.5 stars for a short story is another winner in my book! It maybe be short but this has everything that will have you say "hmmmm....".
Love it.
Love it.
Hoist with his own petard...another bittersweet tale of betrayal. Eve and Roarke's interaction is such fun to read...that boy's sense of humor!
I really like the Eve Dallas series. This one was a quick read or listen. But it had no padding. It had a nice twist at the end.

Another great story in the In Death series and my first venture into the audio book format with them. Needless to say I will be finding as many of the audiobooks as I can because it was AMAZING! Susan Erikson does a wonderful job.
The short stories, with one exception, are never my favorites.
library ebook, read as part of Lost anthology
ferry, kept me guessing.
It was great and very sneaky. Well worth returning to the library to get.
Good. Love this series. Rourke has a connection with a victim and Summerset has a connection with the killer.
Another one from OverDrive.
Just OK
See anthology for review.
I always love these books, but this one wasn't one of the great ones. But it did have a good mystery and ending. This is one of the novellas, so a pretty short one.
I just received the MP3 today. This is one of her shorter stories, about 3 Hours Long. How did a dead body disappear off a ferry with over 3,000 passengers on board without anyone noticing?
This is a great book, also available in "The Lost" anthology. I love the way Robb used it to tie up a loose end from an earlier novel. Clever plot, McNabb makes an appearance, Peabody is hilarious, and Roarke is all mysterious which adds that element of hotness.
