TRUE BETRAYALS
Written by Nora Roberts
1995; 400 Pages
Genre: romance, contemporary, mystery

4 1/2

Now when I start a Nora Roberts (standalone) novel I go into the book with the mindset of this is a contemporary romance with a slight mystery in the background. With that in mind, I find that I am really enjoying the books. A new book friend told me this is her favourite NR novel and I am happy to say it's on the favourites list for me too.

Kelsey Byden went to pick up her mail and was expecting divorce

This is one of my favorite Nora Roberts books. Actually, the first time I read it, I thought it was good, but didn't love it. But for whatever reason, the story stuck in my head and I found myself wanting to read it again. So I did, about a year later, I guess. And it became one of my favorites.

The book has a little bit of everything, which is perhaps why I like it so much. Love and betrayal, family reunions, horses, mystery, self-discovery...and so much more. I enjoy the story alone because of

Terminado.

I thought this was a very enjoyable read about a woman who is trying to build a relationship with the mother she had been told died when she was a young child, but was actually in jail after being found guilty of murder.
As Kelsey begins to establish a deeper bond with her mother Naomi, other members of her family become worried that she will disgrace the family name and that she will abandon her previous lifestyle in order to be closer to Naomi.
I liked the little twists and turns in this book a

In almost Nora Robert's books I often learn something new. This time is horses. Here in my country, there aren't much horses, and usually it's used as a means of transportation. So I don't know much about horses, much less about horse racing. But I enjoyed reading this book. It doesn't bored me even when I don't know anything about horses. And it gives me new knowledge for sure.

About the plot, it's good enough that it keeps me from putting down the book, but not much surprise here. I can pinpoin

This book really hit home for me. I picked it up for several reasons: 1. I will read just about anything from Nora Roberts, 2. I was intrigued by the complicated relationship between mother and daughter-given my own complicated relationship with my own mother, and 3. It had been a while since I read a good horse book.
All of these reasons turned out to be good ones. I found myself continuing to read on not only for the mystery, although it was compelling, but because I wanted to continue to watc

Nora Roberts is the most wonderful romantic-suspense author, EVER!! True Betrayals is an oldie, published in 1995. It shown no age, whatsoever. The suspense is riveting and the romance hot. A twisted tale of twisted revenge. But baddie gets their due in the end.

Gage is a gambler who won big in a card game and not has a Virginia horse farm that is now producing winners. A lot of people are not happy about Gabe's good fortune. Gage is very good friends with his neighbor, Naomi. They have a lot in

“Mentiras e Traições”, o meu primeiro romance de Nora Roberts, mas certamente não será o último. Uma história envolvente, que nos leva aos bastidores dos hipódromos, onde as corridas de cavalos movimentam imensas quantias em apostas e, onde podemos assistir aos efeitos e consequências da inveja, da ganancia e da luxuria.
Kelsey entra neste mundo até então totalmente desconhecido, quando aos 26 anos de idade, acabada de sair de um casamento vitimado pela traição, se depara com a existência de uma

Disappointed in this one, Nora. The reason I love your books is your unique way of inviting us into a character's world and making us feel like part of the family. Your writing is usually heartwarming and funny, but True Betrayals fell flat. The characters were stiff and I didn't get to enjoy getting to know them well. I have tolerance of some stereotyping, but Grandma was a little overboard. (I know, I know, she had her reasons.)

Of all the characters, Naomi was the most intriguing and had so m

I've never read a Nora Roberts book before, and a friend gave me this to listen to on audio books. I was intrigued about the race horsing part of the story, and learned some interesting facts about the racing world and the players involved in the care-taking of horses. That said, True Betrayals was otherwise completely uninteresting! The characters weren't particularly intriguing, the pacing of the book was ridiculously slow (it felt as though Roberts had to fill in every single blank for the re ...more

Same old lust-at-first-sight and sex scenes that are just moved from book to book automatically. Nora Roberts is a better writer than she thinks she is. Though the surface plot is obvious, the issues and subplots are really good, sometimes thought-provoking. The use of horseracing as a background made for interesting settings and descriptions. I wish she would ditch the hash and write a novel worthy of herself.

Another good read by Ms. Roberts. You can't go wrong with lies, betrayal, murder, a mother who returns from the dead, and lots of cover ups. Throw in the rich, the bad boy who went after what he wanted to change his life for the better, the lure of the race track and prized horses. A young woman, who finds out her mother is alive, was lead to believe that she had died. She goes to meet her, to find out why she was lead to believe she dead. What she discovers is that she likes being on the farm, ...more

Somehow, someway I missed this book when it came out. I know I was already a Nora Roberts fan when it was released in 1995, but my last year of college may have interfered with my reading.

This novel shows the dark side of human nature -- not just in the horse racing world but overall as humans and what we can do to each other in the name of love.

I didn't want to like Gabe at the beginning. I don't think we readers were supposed to -- but I could tell he was a standup guy off the bat.

Okay, so that was pretty good as far as NR's suspense romances go. I'd say I liked about half of them more and half of them less than this book. The narrator was pretty good though, so there is that!

I thought the race horses were really interesting. I thought the gambling would bother me, but there just wasn't that much of it. The people (and horses *sadface*) getting killed made for an intriguing suspense element. I knew just enough of both sides (good and bad) to keep me satisfied wit

I actually love this book more than I thought I would. When I picked up this book, I thought it would be a hopeless romance book. But this turned out to be my favorite kind of genre, mystery and romance. I love that Kelsey was able to have sense and know that she needs to be honest with herself and stop keep trying blame herself or live uo to those standards tgat was set for her. I could start by telling you how much I love Nora and nearly all her writing, but if you read my reviews that much is clear.

So instead, I'll just stress this novel and its impact. I loved it. I loved it enough to give five stars which I don't always do with Nora's works.

Kelsey lives in rose-colored world until she finally steps out of her life and into her mother's home at her horse ranch. She and her mother are so-to-speak estranged from her mother's time in prison for murder. She meets her mo

This is one of my all time favorite books that I have read in a long time.True Betrayals is a strong novel with a delicious romance and exciting, nerve wracking suspense. The main character is Kelsey who was raised by her father, chairman of the English Department at Georgetown University. She was taught all of the “proper” ways of living as a lady in the city of DC. She marries because she is “expected” to because of the status of the man and it does not work and ends in a divorce. While she is ...more

Nora Roberts was born in Silver Spring, Maryland. She began writing when a blizzard in February 1979 kept her in her hilltop home with a three and six year old for nearly a week of canceled kindergarten and dwindling chocolate supplies.

During the now-famous blizzard, she pulled out a pencil and notebook and began to write a story for her own entertainment. From the first page, she knew it was wha
