Fabulous, that's the first thing I must say about this book, but I'll come back to that. I do not know the correct terminology, yet I will try. There is just something about the covers of Avon Inpire books, I have loved every one that I have seen and this is my favorite so far. There is just something about the flat finish, instead of a glossy print that I just adore. Not to mention the road with the Amish sky ahead and the image of the blonde girl with green eyes. (A little curious as to why sh...more

HIDDEN the first in the Sisters of the Heart series, follows Anna Metzger as she leaves her controlling boyfriend and flees to an Amish community to stay with an old friend. Anna thought Rob Peterson had it all. He’s handsome, charismatic, and an up-and-coming politician. He seems too good to be true. Why have I NOT read this series yet?! I can't believe there is an Amish series out there that I have NOT read! Somebody yell at me please! Oh my goodness! I LOVE Shelley's work with her Seasons of Sugarcreek series but man oh man....her first book, Hidden, in her first series, Sisters of the Heart, was phenomenal. Utterly phenomenal. She captured me from the first page of the prologue and held me until the final sentence of the last page.

I actually enjoyed this book alot, and I really only picked it up because I needed something to read at the moment. It turned out to be quite good and I really got into the characters and the story line. I know this is the first one in a series so I'm going to try to get the second and third ones, too. This one is pretty much about a young woman who tries to escape her abusive boyfriend by hiding out at her Amish friend's bed and breakfast. Long story short, she ends up liking the lifestyle ...more
Gray explores the Amish way of life in her many of her books, such as theses series: Sisters of the Heart, Seasons of Sugarcreek, and Families of Honor. I have enjoyed exploring her writing in two of the series. Both series present a simple formula for the story with mild characters and simplistic setting. The main emphasis in each book is family and the power of God. In this story, Anna runs away from her "English" life of modern day comforts and possessions to hide from a cruel b...more
I have already read Grace and absolutely loved it! I wanted to read another one of Shelley's books and also get a feel of how the series started, and I was not disappointed! Anna is in a relationship where she feels trapped by an egomaniac politician, Rob. When he goes too far, she decides she has to get away. She heads to an Amish Bed & Breakfast where she and her mother had previously visited. During her time of hiding, she sorts through her many feelings and begins to rely on God to guide her...more
This was the very first Amish Romance I ever read. It also introduced me to Shelley Shepard Gray's writing style. After reading several other Amish fiction authors, I've concluded Gray is one of the better ones. This particular tale is from the POV of an "English" girl seeking a more peaceful life. She finds it with her Amish friend whose family runs a B&B. The plot, although somewhat predictable, kept me interested. The characters were believable and likable. If you are looking for Ol...more
This was a good labor day weekend read for me, the book is well written and it sticks to the very simple tale and doesn't go to far from the main charectors. This young women Anna tries to run from a very abusive relationship she has with a man that is very well to do, and has a lot influience. Her parents are even bamboozled by his smile and smooth talking when really he's just a women beater. I can totally relate to fear Anna must have felt and the courage it took to leave this man. I was in a...more
Excellent I can't wait for the next book
So, I made a list of 12 books I was going to read this year; one for each month.
On my list was
Hidden by Shelley Shepard Gray
Hidden is the first book in Shelley Shepard Gray's Sisters of the Heart series.
A while back I got an advance review copy of the most recent book in the series, Grace. You can read my review of that book here: http://books-camilleelise4.blogspot.com/...

Hidden by Shelley Shepard Gray is the first book in the Sisters of the Heart series. Anna, an Englisher, is tired of her abusive boyfriend. Her boyfriend is a big political figure, so Anna does not get much help from the police. Her parents think he's wonderful for her and don't help her much either. So, with no help insight from the abuse, Anna does the only thing she knows to do, she runs away. She does not tell anyone where she is going except a lie about going on vacation. She runs to ...more

Anna runs to Amish country to hide from her abusive boyfriend. She lives at an inn that her friend Katie's family runs. She does her fair share of chores, cooking and cleaning to earn her keep. She even dresses Plain so that she is not noticed. While she is there she creates a bond with Henry, Katie's older brother. She also learns more about herself, her priorities and her faith.

This was an interesting story about a girl who runs away from her abusive boyfriend to stay with an Amish friend. She learns to appreciate and admire the simplicity of how they live. It gave lots of information about the Amish way of life and was entertaining to read. I would like to read the other books in the Sisters of the Heart Series.
Super fast read. Light and entertaining. About a woman, Anna, in her very early 20s who finds herself in an abusive relationship. She seeks shelter (and escape) at the home of a friend that she met in a quilting class years ago. Her friend, Katie, is Amish. Dislike and then romance buds between Anna and Katie's brother.
I was very impressed with this book. I can honestly say that I've never given much thought to the Amish way of life but found myself drawn to it, their love and devotion to God and the world he made, and the hard work they put into every aspect of their lives. I'm looking forward to reading more from this series.
This book was a quick read. I got up at 1am and I am sick as a dog. This book had me bawling and thinking about the good things in life. I never thought I would read an AVON book, but this was a sweet surprise. I look forward to reading more from AVON. I plan to pass this book to my good friend. Enjoy!
This book is heartwarming. I have read another series called Seasons in SugarCreek you should for it as is heartwarming and a good read. I plan to read the rest of "Sister of the Heart Series". This book as got me wanting more and to see what happens to Anna and Henry.
This book caught my interest immediately. I enjoyed learning about the Amish. You truly came to love each character. As with any Christian book, there was a lot of religious influence. Nothing too overpowering.
This book had so much potential. It was such a great idea for a love story. A girl has to go into hiding, hides with an Amish family and falls in love with an amish boy. I was so excited to read this book, and I did enjoy it. But I think it moved too quickly. There wasn't enough suspense, or relationship building. They didn't like each other one second and then after two meaningful conversations, that seemed to be too revealing and forward, for the way they had been treating each other, th...more
Enjoyable read. I was a little confused with Anna's waffling thoughts and conversations. She seemed to go back and forth and it was confusing to me. Otherwise the characters and storyline was very good.
Felt like I need to read one of the thousands of Amish themed Christian fiction novels just to say I did. Now I can say with authority that there is no reason to read another.
GREAT Book! this was the first time I read a book by Shelley Shepard Gray and it won't be the last. The story line keeps the reader feeling like it is real life and happening at the moment.
Quick read. I thought it would be similar to Beverly Lewis's Amish books. There were similarities but little character development and a predictable plat.

Some very strange sentence constructions and strange character motivation made it very hard for me to get too overly involved with this story. The depiction of the Amish is always interesting to me, though, so I stuck it out.
