Fourteen year old, Trey Laporte woke up one day with pain radiating through out his entire body, feeling like he was in a train wreck he looked around to see that his room looked the exact same way.
Living in a care house, since he's been orphaned with no family three years ago, Trey was about to be sent to a correction services -aka The Tank- when an unexpected visitor, claiming to be his uncle, has come seeking Trey.

A nicely written paranormal YA novel. Steve captured the essence of being a Werewolf well. I enjoyed his character's and story line. A different take on the Vampire/Werewolf relationship. I rather enjoyed the spin that Steve took on it.

I thought that Trey's character was well written. The loneliness and despair that Trey felt throughout the book came through in volumes. I really enjoyed Lucien as well. I thought that he took over his role as Trey's guardian well. He is very protective More...

WEREling was one of those books that struck all my sensitive areas at once, so to speak. Shapeshifter hero? Got it. Paranormal conflict? All over it. Blossoming teenage love interest. More, please. Male protagonist who isn't a creep or a bizarrely perfect weirdo? Excellent. The raw material was all there but at the end of the day I found that WEREling had a tough time delivering on its promise.

I think most of my issues stemmed from the erratic pacing of this story. We start off meeti More...

WEREling starts off right in the action. That's my favorite thing so there was no waiting for the hook in this one and I was interested in continuing on right after I started reading. The descriptions within this book are amazing. I kept finding myself looking forward to all of the instances in the book where Trey would have to shift because while reading, I could visualize everything that was going on. Not only the situations with Trey but with everything, including character and location descr More...

I'm not really sure where to start with my review for 'Wereling' by Steve Feasey. I loved it in the beginning. It was so good and had such an amazing build up. It came highly recommended to me so I was expecting more. However, by the end of the book I found myself disinterested. I really liked some of the characters-like Trey-but was completely unaffected by others. At one point, there is a traumatic thing that happens to one of the main characters, but I didn't react to it...at all. I just read More...

WEREling, by Steve Feasey, is a fast-paced adventure surrounding a fourteen-year-old boy and his supernatural genetics. Trey is thrust into a world of paranormal proportions in a matter of hours he is overwhelmed by a whirlwind of information as he discovers that his life is in grave danger.

When I received this book, I was excited to read another werewolf story, but this book let me down.

On the positive side, I liked the idea of the story. Feasey really stretched my imagi More...

When I first read the premise for WEREling, I knew I would probably like it. What I wasn't expecting was how much I liked it. I loved it actually.

Trey was a fabulous main character. His reactions were so spot on. From chapter one, I was invested in his story. But my favorite character by far was Lucien. He was completely mysterious and intriguing, yet humorous at the same time. I loved the way he spoke and his mannerisms.

Alexa, Lucien's daughter, was also an enjoyable ch More...

Why I read this: I've been a little into the werewolf books lately and thought I'd give this one a try. It's also a debut novel! :)

Plot: How would you feel if your life was even more messed up than usual? That's how Trey feels when he is pulled out of the group home he was living in and thrown into a world full of vampires, werewolves, and demons. The story is filled with action, learning how to control the wolf inside him, and trying to find a place where he belongs.

This novel has an interesting premise. I've always wanted to read about a young boy learning that he was a werewolf. It turns out that Trey's experience is a little different from what I expected in that his lycanthropy is genetic rather than transmitted through a bite, and he is just now experiencing it due to changing hormone levels. I found Trey to be an interesting character. He's had a rough time since his parents' death, and he seems to be okay despite that. At times, I felt his behavior w More...

Right from the start I have to say that above all else, reading Wereling has reminded me that trying something different often times ends up being a fantastic idea! Reading a male point of view is not something I'm used to, nor do I usually seek it out. I'm not quite sure why I picked this book up, I know it wasn't the cover (that kind of scared me) but whatever the reason, I'm just glad that I did.

It was a nice change of pace for me and a good break in routine from what I normally More...

Wereling delivered an engaging storyline with detailed and explosive action. Trey, an orphaned teen, wakes up one day to have his whole life turned upside down. His "uncle" Lucien, who is a vampire, revealed to him that he was a werewolf. A lot to swallow in one day right? Trey didn't surprise me by his reaction of wanting to run away, that would be my initial response as well. I enjoyed his realistic behavior and willingness to deal with the crazy changes. The Good: The opening scene of this novel was overall intriguing. It kept pulling you farther into those first pages. It story had good pace towards the beginning keeping you drawn in by answering long standing questions. The world created by author, Steve Feasey, was unique, mysterious, and compelling. Trey the main character is very relatable and kind. The internal battles he goes through are written beautifully. The minor characters, as well, have well developed personalities. WERELING is the story of Trey, for all intents and purposes an ordinary boy. Until he isn’t. After one night where he wakes up aching and sick, he is suddenly whisked away by a stranger claiming to be his uncle. All too soon, Trey is living with the reality of vampires, demons and werewolves. The werewolf? Trey. His life? In danger from a power hungry vampire.

WERELING starts off strong. The description is great and Trey’s emotions come through bright and clear. Right from the start, More...

This book captured me in from the first few pages. It’s fast paced and cleverly written. Although it is a little bit unoriginal in the actual story format, the characters are great and the story is easy to follow along with. I’m glad that the main character is a werewolf and not a vampire like every other book out there. The villain is really cheesy and predictable that I actually pretty much skimmed the end of the book to get it over with. I really hope that the villain isn’t as lame in book 2 More...

I know this series as "Changeling" not "WEREling", but I thought I would have liked this book, but as much as I tried it didn't grip me, it was just ok, I could have happily put this book down and forget about it, also of the three books I've read it just seems that alot of people get killed, that's probably normal, but someone has always died, just seems to be a thing that drags. As much as it made me feel that it wasn't interesting, I bought the next two books out of curios More...

This is the first novel that I've read were the main character was a werewolf...well, shape shifter. Trey Laporte tells the story from his point of view as the events unfold and unfold they do as his world is turned upside down in less than 24 hours. Though short over all when compared to other books floating around in the YA genre right now, I think the length worked well for the story. The author allowed enough time for a natural transgression to occur from Trey's less than happy past to hi More...

I have this issue with rating things two stars.
For me, three stars is 'it was okay' and one is 'loathed it; don't ever pick this up if you value your sanity'. So visually, a two star rating looks bad to me. This explanation is just so you know that this book falls under the category of 'it was okay' but is rated higher for the above reasons.

There's not much to say about this book. (Other than Goodreads really, really didn't want to let me find it. Took forever to pull up th More...

I rated this book with 5 stars is because this book had a mix of every genre. It has action, romance and drama. it is an overall good book and i would definitely recommend this book to a friend. Some weaknesses of the book are in the beginning of the book its hard to follow along, but as the book progresses on it becomes a lot easier to. Also you really have to pay attention and focus because there are some flashbacks. I would for sure read another book by this author because he writes about boo More...

Trey doesn't know who broke into his room and destroyed and clawed everything, but he's looking for an explanation. He finds it when a man claiming to be his uncle appears at his orphanage and whisks him away. Instantly rich and connected, Trey discovers his werewolf heritage and just amazingly kicks everything into high gear. Things dropped into place pretty easily in this novel. Review by my brother Jake Kirk

This is one of those good news/bad news situations. Wereling is well written with complex characters, imaginative creatures and vivid description. On the other hand, it was slow and lacked action and suspense.

The first 70 to 100 pages sets up the story and that was just too long for me. His uncle has a lot of explaining to do and he takes his time about it. Our hero doesn't even change into a werewolf until half-way through the book.

As much as i love a paranormal romance, occasionally, i just want to read a good fantasy horror which is, well, different. This book fit that category nicely, and had a few extra intersting points to it that i wasn't expecting.
