I read about this book on a DC parenting forum and decided to look for it at the library, but, as I was reading it, I realized it was basically a list of seven common “sins” of raising ANY child, period, regardless of whether they are an only, oldest, middle, youngest, etc. Also, the concept of a book with this as its subject suddenly struck me as an oxymoron, b/c it told parents of “onlies” to calm down and stop treating them so delicately and over-focusing on them so much. . .BUT yet. . . . th...more
By far one of the best child rearing books (for parents with onlies) that I have read. Lots of great information and tips--I have highlighted lots of passages--this is a book I will be referring to again and again throughtout Chris's childhood, adolsencence and adulthood.
Great book for any parent! Even though my son is super lucky to have a half-sister, he is being raised as an only child in our home. This book helped me realize some of the sins I'm committing in raising him and reassured me of the things I'm doing right! It also helped with the guilt I sometimes feel over not giving him another sibling. I've always thought our family is perfect just the way it is but I know sometimes my son gets lonely.
