what a great find. I have searched and searched for a bible that I identified with! The little devotions by every day people inspire me and bring me peace. They interspersed throughout the bible and at interval that makes sense and relates to each topic as they come.

Reading the bible has never been easy for me, but this little gem of a bible makes it easier, and makes God's word make sense in relation to the world I live in. I have found countless topics to discuss with my child, and More...

Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young (Thomas Nelson) is a masterpiece! The new deluxe edition is encased in a lovely leather cover, which adds to the appeal of this 365 day devotional. Unlike other devotionals, Young records thoughts she receives from God in a personal format, so each devotional is like a little message from God that aims directly for the heart.

After reading just a few entries of Jesus Calling, I wept. This book massaged my weary heart and More...

I just got the book Jesus Calling in the mail today. It's a 365 daily devotional book. I normally do not like these books as most of them are very trite and do not make the reader dive deep into Scripture and your own walk with God. They tend to deal with surface issues. Sarah Young has opened up her life to us in this work of hers.

She gives a background of how she came about to write this and I'm absolutely amazed at what the Lord has brought her through. She took time every morning More...

I must admit, I’m usually not one to like devotional books. I’ve read many over the years and hate the “fluff” that is found in many devotionals. I find that what is given to the reader is a few short paragraphs that amount to “Christianity Lite” and I find I’m always looking for more. As a reviewer for Thomas Nelson Publishers, though, I decided to give this devotional a try.

This devotional book, with a reading for each day of the year, is the most unique devotional I’ve ever rea More...

This daily devotional is a beautiful gift for anyone, or a treat to buy for yourself. Sarah Young used to write a journal for years and one day decided to begin listening to Jesus in a more attentive way. This book is the words that came to her, written as if Jesus Himself is speaking to you. In the pages are the words and scriptures Jesus lovingly laid on her heart. Sarah passes these words onto us with scriptures at the bottom of each page.

I read this through from cover to cover in More...

This small, 5x7, book is a daily devotional for those of us who want to become closer to Jesus Christ. Sarah Young divides this book into months with a date on each selection. There is also a scripture reference at the end of each passage. Each devotional is written from the Savior's perspective.
I really did not like this book very much. I thought I would, but I think there was too many ideas that I did not agree with. I believe that Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father are 2 separate beings a More...

Jesus Calling is a daily devotional written to speak directly to your heart and soul.

Sarah Young felt Christ inspire her to write down what He said during her quiet time with Him. In these messages He showed her who He is and who she is in Him. Each day He gave her a down to earth, easy to understand, personal message. She then passed those messages to us in the form of a daily devotional.

I have been searching for a daily devotional for years. I have longed for one th More...

I felt led to share my thoughts with all of you on a very popular devotional book of our day written by Sarah Young and published by Thomas Nelson.

I did not come easily to the place of receptivity with this book, initially. You see, although I periodically perused it a number of times at the local bookstore, included it on my "wish list" on Amazon and even came close to buying it outright on more than one occasion, I held back... for almost 4 years. Why, would a book More...

A dear friend gave me this book during a difficult time in her life, as well as mine. Bless her heart, she remembered how I LOVE leather covers and ribbon markers in books...and gave me that version. This book is unbelievably remarkable because no matter what is pressing down on you, niggling at your heart or just making life seem unbearable...well, THAT day you will read it and it will speak to you as though the Lord truly prepared it just for you...never fails. A short daily meditational readi More...

MY REVIEW:

The rich brown, imitation leather cover draws your finger tips to hold this book, open it's pages, and drink of the wonderful truth written inside. Tucked inside there are 365 daily devotions with deep thoughts that will have you meditating on them through out the day. After the devotional thought there are two to three scripture references listed for you to look up and read.

Jesus Calling is one of the simple books that will leave a big impact on your life. I More...

This book is a year of prayer journal by Sarah Young. It is biographical, and very honest. It is amazing to hear the heart felt honesty Sarah speaks to God with. She prays then writes down what she feels/hears God speaking to her. It is amazing that all the words He has for you are congruent with scripture. It is an inspiring book that has led me to be much more in touch with my thoughts, mind, and ultimately God while I am praying. Very Holy Spirit focused book. If you are not up for God reveal More...

Sarah Young has recorded words of comfort from our Lord Jesus given to her during her quiet time with Him. She has taken these words and formatted them into a daily devotional book, spread out over 365 days. Each day is complete with scripture references. I have the leather bound deluxe edition which feels like a treasure in my hands.

For the purpose of this review, I read the book through in its entirety. I am so comforted after reading this book to have confirmation that what I have More...

Author, Sarah Young, decided to start "listening" to God and began to write down what she was hearing. The result is a gorgeous daily devotional book full of words of reassurance, comfort & hope, written as if Jesus is speaking directly to you. Each devotion is short but offers wonderful insight into life and issues that we face, each day of our lives.

A devotional book that I will be using from here on out, Jesus Calling will draw you into the presence of our Saviour and wi More...

`Jesus Lives` by Sarah Young is a devotional book quite different than I've read. With 180 devotionals arranged by subject matter, this little padded hardcover book, is exceptional. It is personal. It is intimate. It is real.

Sarah Young is a missionary and missionaries are my heroes. These are people that embody what Christianity truly is. Offering one's life in the service of proclaiming God no matter the personal cost is admirable, honorable and challenging.

In `Jesus Lives` More...

I love to "start" traditions, but I am not very good at keeping them -- except when they are bad habits, but that's another story. But reading this book has become a tradition I'd like to keep doing for a very long time. Every day, when I sit down for my evening meal, I light a candle and read from Sarah Young's Jesus Calling. The entries are simple, direct encouragement in the first person voice of Jesus Christ and are, more often than not, spot on. If we are to be close to God, walki More...

Jesus Lives is a beautiful little book filled with short devotional thoughts and scripture to go with each one. You can read through the book one thought at a time, or randomly read a devotional chosen from the topical index.

Written as if from Jesus Christ Himself, this book will leave you challenged and comforted. You will read of His great love for you, His desires for you, and His amazing grace.

This would make a wonderful gift for any woman or a great book to set on More...

Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence, by Sarah Young, Thomas Nelson, 2004, 400 Pages, ISBN-13: 978-1591451884, $14.99

Sarah encourages intimacy with Christ when she writes in the voice of Jesus, although some challenge her for doing so. I’m one that doesn’t. Reading Sarah’s devotions affords me an immediacy and intimacy with the Lord I’ve only found…Full Review: http://tinyurl.com/cddqxtb

This was a Christmas gift last year. Most devotionals I have trouble keeping up with, but with this one I couldn't wait to read it every day. A lot of times it seemed as though the words really were Jesus' words to me. There was rarely a day when I felt something didn't apply to me, or didn't feel relevant to my life. Young did a great job making it something that were resonate with everyone.

Very odd format. I gathered from the book summary that the lady who wrote this book is a Charismatic, so she is trying to convince you that Jesus is really the one doing the talking. I would have enjoyed it much more if it had been a simple devotional without that "inspired" element. But, it was a gift from my boss's boss's boss, so I'm not going to complain too much.

I'm a teen and my mom got this as a gift from a friend of hers. She left it on her bed, I picked it up, sat down with my Bible, and started reading. This is a wonderful and powerful devotional. I fell in love with it the first few sentences I read. They are short and quick to the point; making anyone that is short on time feel refreshed. I love this devotional!<3

This is a day by day devotional written in the first person from Jesus to you. Each devotional is based on 2-4 scriptures, and feels personal and intimate. For example, today's began: "I am your strength and shield. I plan out each day and have it ready for you, long before you arise from bed. I also provide the strength you need each step of the way..." mmmm.

My new favorite daily devotional. Sarah writes this as the voice of Jesus talking to you. A few daily Scripture verses and then a paragraph or two of what Jesus "said" to her about them. Easy enough that I can do it every single day, yet thought-provoking enough that I have something to meditate on after the book is put down and "quiet time" is over.

This is, without a doubt, the best devotional I've ever owned. I love the way it is written in third person, as if Jesus is speaking directly to me. Sarah Young has captured the inspired word of the Lord and made it come alive and personal to me. I've already purchased several copies as gifts for my loved ones and will continue to do so.

All the reviewers are right! This is just wonderful!

Here's a part of the devotional for today:

"Do not be afraid to be different from other people. The path I have called you to travel is exquisitely right for you. The more closely you follow My leading, the more fully I can develop your gifts. To follow Me will bless others by enabling you to shine brightly in this dark world."

This is my devotional for this year. Each entry is written as if Jesus is talking to you first person. That adds a different flavor to the book than most devotionals. The fact that it is written in little bite-sized morsels give you a single focus for each day. I am thoroughly enjoying it.

This unique, substantive devotional confronts exactly the areas of idiocy and weakness that a driven, Type A person such as myself needs exposing. My ability to read Jesus Calling strongly paralleled The Sacred Romance. The book calls you to slow down, stop approaching time God as another check mark on an overwhelmed, daily to-do list, and enjoy His presence while relating with Him. Sometimes I've had to read the entries several times, intentionally slowing myself down, to receive Ms. Young's More...

This little devotional is like nothing else. Few devotionals (I feel silly even calling it that - it is so far beyond just being a little devotional book) speak the words of God like this one. You will feel like Abba is sitting with you, teaching you the deep truths of His heart.

This is unlike any other devotional that I've ever come across. It's wise. Gentle. Warm. True. And addresses the deepest heart-needs of people. THIS is the Jesus that I know and have experienced and this daily devotional has served as a beautiful reminder of how God loves.

An aunt gave me this daily devotional on Thanksgiving, gushing that it is different and wonderful. And I'm really loving it so far. As some of its other reviewers say, it is a read that feels "deeper"/more real/more personal than most texts of its type... doesn't seem hokey.
