Lorelei James is the queen of hot, cowboy sexin’ whether it be singular lovin’ or ménage. She knows how to write the scenes so that they’re burning up hot, but can also be very romantic. Corralled is pretty similar to her Rough Riders series in that these cowboys are also rodeo junkies, and since this is the first book of the series, that’s all I can really tell. I’m assuming that since this is called The Blacktop Cowboys series, that means there'll be lots of traveling and rodeoing going on, rather than ending up on the home front like the Rough Riders has.

Hank and Kyle have been friends since childhood, and now they’re riding the circuit together, too. Imagine their surprise when they discover they’ve also been dating and bedding the same woman, Lainie, AKA Mel, Capshaw. I won’t go into all the details about how that came about, but I must admit, I found myself chuckling about what a switch that turned out to be because usually it’s the man caught with his hands in someone else’s cookie jar. Though, in Lainie’s defense, she was not in a committed relationship with either of these men, so I suppose that technically, it wasn’t really cheating, but, I have to admit, I didn't care for her free lovin' attitude. I don't like it when the men of a story act that way, and it was no different in Lainie's case.

Anyway, before I get to my spoilers, I’ll just say that if you’re a fan of Loralei James’s Rough Riding McKays, you might just enjoy this book too. It does suffer from a mild case of the FITSs – First in the Series syndrome – but too bad.

Ok, so as I said this story had some of my favorite elements as well as some of my least favorites elements in erotic romance, and I think many people might give this story at least 4 stars, but for a number of reasons, I’m not one of them. While I did enjoy the humor and I laughed at what fools Hank and Kyle were making out of themselves and each other, I didn’t like Lainie much in the beginning, and I have to admit, I didn’t like her much in the end, either. As I said above, I guess that technically what she was doing wasn’t really cheating, but regardless, I couldn’t stop thinking of her as just another “buckle bunny,” ready to bed anything with a di** and a trophy. The premise of this story is that Lainie has been dating Hank for about 6 months, and Kyle for 2 months. When the two men find out about each other, neither one of them is willing to bow out, nor is Lainie willing to choose. Their solution? You got it – sharing. Now, Ms. James usually does this pretty well, but I have to say I didn’t feel that in this book. This really wasn’t about being a permanent relationship, but rather each man was hoping to outdo the other and convince Lainie to choose him. So the sexual games bar kept getting raised, but because of the underlying animosity there, it wasn’t fun, nor did I find it even remotely exciting. Now, the guys weren’t always hostile to one another, but we’d hear their thoughts about how pissed they were that this one did this and that one did that first, and we even had the whole, “I’m gonna take your ass before he does…” situation goin’ on. While I found some of this humorous, I’m not so sure it was intended to be. And the ending… it really felt awkward. Abrupt, and not at all in keeping with these two men, each vying to make Lainie his own. I hate it when someone gets hurt. HATE it. And while the “loser” moved on to follow another dream, it was still clear that he wasn’t necessarily happy with the outcome. And again, it was such an abrupt change of heart that it felt like the author was grasping for a way to bring this to an end without going too far over page count. I’m freely admitting that this is a major turn off for me, and it might just be me.

Believe it or not, despite the tone of my review, I’m looking forward to the next installment, and I’m hoping that it’ll be more to my liking.

I was pretty excited to hear that Lorelei James’ was starting a new series because I’m seriously addicted to her Roughriders books and IMO you can‘t ever have enough sexy cowboys. I also have a small addiction to the PBR and CORRALLED is all about the bullriding and its fearless bullfighters. Unfortunately, and I can’t put my finger on why, it just never grabbed me like her Roughriders series always does and I was surprised by how difficult it was for me to get into her new Blacktop Cowboys.

One of the problems for me was the rodeo jargon, I kept forgetting what EBS and CRA stood for and these acronyms were used a lot. I also felt like I’d read this before as the storyline is very reminiscent of her first Roughriders book Long Hard Ride leaving me with a feeling of déjà vu for the entire read.

“As much as Hank loved bullfighting in the CRA, for a bullfighter, the EBS was the big time.”

If you’ve read anything else by Lorelei James then you’ll know what to expect from this. Erotic love scenes (every couple of pages)including some rope play and just about everything else, emotion filled storylines, a couple of dustups at a local saloon and a whole slew of unique characters and situations to keep you interested. James’ writing is also really fun. I love the way her characters talk and usually come away with a southern drawl much to my Canadian families amusement.

Lainie Capshaw is a sports therapist, traveling the rodeo circuits and patching up injured cowboys. She’s made it a steadfast rule not to date anyone, keeping things strictly professional amongst her many admirers. So it’s with some surprise that she finds herself dating not one but two handsome cowboys; Hank Lawson a bullfighter and Kyle Gilchrist a bull rider. Despite never discussing exclusivity Lainie feels guilty but also doesn’t assume she’ll have to decide between them as they work on different circuits. Honestly she doesn’t know if she could choose anyways.

Lainie’s two timing catches up with her one night at the local honky-tonk when Hank catches her with Kyle. To her surprise the two are childhood friends and since neither wants to bow down to the other they instead offer her a deal no horny cowgirl could refuse. They will all travel the CRA circuit together with Kyle and Hank taking care of Lanie's sexual needs until she makes up her mind which one of them she likes better. It sounds good until both men try to win her heart leaving Lainie hanging on for the full 8 seconds. What’s a girl to do? (less)

Ugggg...I read Wrangled and Tangled and then Strattled and Spurred and both I really enjoyed...this one....not so much. I would say I am a 3.5 on the stars. I just do not get how Kyle can ever be with Celia now??? In the other two books the sharing was mentioned, but I did not research the series before reading Bran and then Abe /Renners stories. I just thought, oh a one off with the best buddy to give his gals something different!

The very first line of this book (see above) drew me in immediately. Okay, I admit that the ménage trope lover in me interpreted the sentence in a different way than it was meant to be but I’m willing to bet I am not alone in that. GREAT Start to The Blacktop Cowboys series.

DO NOT READ Corralled expecting it to be like the Rough Rider series, comparing the two series is like comparing apples to oranges, you can't.

I have to admit, I put off reading Corralled because of a review that said Corralled didn't measure up to the Rough Riders series. I absolutely LOVE all of the Rough Rider books and I am now adding the Blacktop Cowboy series to my list of favorites, Corralled is the first book of the series. You can't compare the two series at all, Rough Riders is centered around the McKay family. Corralled is about a group of people that travel the same rodeo circuit.

I found that the emotions Kyle, Hank and Lanie went through felt real, they showed the darker emotions of being involved in a menage, how jealousy can affect the people involved, how one person can feel confused and pulled in different directions towards the menage partners and the chances of one of the three getting hurt because the other two connect more and decide to stay together. By the time I finished reading Corralled, I was rooting for all three characters to find what they were looking for and I was totally in love with Hank. I would love to go into more detail, but do not want to spoil it for anyone. The sex scenes in Corralled were HOT, one or two may have been a little more on the raunchy side, but not disgustingly so. And the ending was so sweet and endearing, it made me cry =)

As much as I love the Rough Riders series, I am glad the Blacktop Cowboys series is not a carbon copy of it. By carbon copy I mean a new series with the same scenarios just set in a different state, with different names for the characters. Lorelei's books are all different, that's why so many people are loyal fans, she doesn't bore us with a standard formula for all her books, we never know what to expect, other than an awesome story, hot men and even hotter sex.

Take the time to read Corralled, with a fan and a bottle of water near by. I have a feeling, that like me, you will be chomping at the bit for the release of Saddled and Spurred, book 2 of the Blacktop Cowboys series in March 2011 =)

She's a rodeo med tech, who is working two different circuits, and is dating a different Cowboy on each circuit. Hank and Kyle are childhood friends and neither know anything about each others personal life until Hank pops into a bar one evening and sees Kyle with Lainie. She doesn't realize that they're best friends from the same home town as she has gone by the name Mel to Kyle and Lainie to Hank. Jealousy errupts between to two friends and Lainie walks out that evening breaking it off with both of them, but not before the two best friends decide to literally "share" her between themselves.

At first they both decide to share, and believe Lainie will pick one over the other, but Lainie decides to go with it and see what will happen, and along the way take in new experiences. When Lainie is put on involuntary vacation by her boss, she starts traveling around the country with both men on the rodeo circuit. I loved the spats between Kyle and Hank as they bickered for Lainie's affections and time. They were constantly vying for her alone time, and trying to one-up each other with small gestures like flowers or kisses, or romantic evenings alone, but got pretty kinky when they both shared her. Kyle was generally more agressive with her, and Hank was inclined to be more affectionate and romantic, but they both mixed it up pretty good when they were all together. *YeeHaw*

Towards the end it is Hank who really steps up to be the man Lainie is looking for. He has a huge ranch that he shares with his brother and sister, but for him Lainie is the woman he wants to truly have in his life...forever. When Hank gets hurt saving Kyle from a bull it is then that Lainie realizes she is in love with Hank, and Kyle realizes that he isn't ready for any kind of long term committment. Plus Lanie's conflict with her mom starts to resolve as she now understands what her mom has felt like after losing her birth father.

I also loved how Hank puts himself and his rodeo career on the line to go after Bryson the head of the EBS circuit because of the man who has almost raped Lainie, and he drops everything to fly out and be with Lainie. He finds Lainie in Cheyenne, Wyoming... visiting the memorial of her dead father. When he confesses to the threats he made to Bryson and the EBS in defense of Lainie and then says..."It's time I let Celia chase her dream, now that I've found mine," suggesting also that now he has a reason to be corralled at his Ranch, and asks for her hand in marriage right there at her father's memorial and says..."Lainie Capshaw, Will you marry me, make a home with me, let me spend my life loving you..." Hank melted any barriers left and any doubts about his intention towards Lainie. Cowboys like Hank sure know how to make a girl go week in the knees and I love a HEA like this story had.

Ok first off I have to say, I was going between 3 and 4 stars with this one. The characters were okay, the story line was okay, it did get quite steamy at times which was a bonus! But I didn't fall in love with these people and their story wasn't enough to enthrall me. With that being said, I'm still a huge fan of LJ! Her RR series is one of my favorites!

Anyway, the plot: Lainie Capshaw, mid-twenties, petite, curvy, long curly-haired daughter of a legendary bull rider who died tragically in the ring, works the rodeo circuit as a sports med tech. That means that Lainie, who's an LPN and an EMT, takes care of bandaging/fixing up cowboys who are injured while competing. She meets tall, dark, and studly bull fighter Hank Lawson, and after rebuffing his advances a couple of times (doesn't want to mix business with pleasure) she finally succumbs to his persuasive charms. They've been dating for a few months, and although Hank's an excellent lover, he's not very inventive or spontaneous. When Lainie meets a flirty blond Viking-esque bull rider from a different rodeo organization named Kyle Gilchrist, who is everything Hank is not, she can't help but be smitten by him. What Kyle lacks in height and bulk, he makes up for in spontaneity--their first time is a passionate quickie in a restaurant bathroom. So now Lainie is 'seeing' two men--she wonders, does that make her a slut? But since her guys compete on different rodeo circuits, chances are that neither will find out about the other, right?

Wrong. Not only do they find out about the other, but coincidentally, they know each other, and they're friends, having gone to the same school growing up.. Uh-oh. Now what should Lainie do? Neither one wants to give up Lainie, and Lainie refuses to choose between them (she'd rather not see either if she must choose) so they come up with an idea. Would Lainie like to share them? Or should I say, would Laine let them share her? And secretly they hope, may the best man win. Since Lainie has some vacation time coming, she agrees to travel around the rodeo circuit with them for a couple of weeks from venue to venue while they compete in something called "Cowboy Christmas" as a way for Kyle to improve his ranking in the bull riding division. So can they do this? Can the men 'share' Lainie without becoming jealous, suspicious, and competitive? And can Lainie do this without getting her heart involved? At the end of "Cowboy Christmas" will she lose her heart to one of her men, or will they all just walk away after the good times are over?

Okaaay...I'll admit at the beginning I wasn't too fond of Lainie and her two-timing ways. Yeah, yeah, she made a point to say how neither of her men said the relationship was 'exclusive', but still...and when confronted by her guys, her first instinct was to run away. She must have been 'something' sexually, because neither guy seemed to want to give her up, even though they hardly knew a thing about her. It wasn't until they all went on the road together in their little travel trailer that they learned anything about Lainie (besides what she liked to do in bed) and then she learned stuff about Hank and Kyle. And after spending weeks on the road with her guys, she realizes that there's only one guy for her after she sees all the sides of him.

So how did this ménage relationship work? Not exactly how I expected. Kyle and Hank spent the majority of their time with Lainie in one-on-one situations, which helped fuel a lot of jealousy and competition between them. If Hank spent the night with Lainie, then Lainie (and Kyle) felt that she should give Kyle equal time. And then Kyle would do his best to out-do Hank, and Hank would be jealous, wondering if Lainie preferred Kyle to him. This got to be exhausting, watching these two compete over Lainie! Finally Lainie had to tell them that she wanted them both--together--and that's when the competing and the jealousies were put to rest, and then they concentrated on blowing Lainie's mind--together. And I must say, in typical LJ fashion, the sex scenes were raunchy and hot. These three did just about everything you could think of--even one time incorporating a saddle, a sawhorse, and some rope...yowza!

LJ introduces a lot of characters in this one, so have your pencil and paper handy, because I'm sure these people are going to pop up again, especially Hank's brother Abe and his younger sister Celia. She also did such a thorough job explaining just about every aspect of what goes on in a rodeo (god, I learned a lot!)and setting up the series that I'm thinking in the follow-up books she won't have to go into as much detail and she can spend a little more time on the characters.

If you're a fan of LJ's Rough Riders series, you'll probably want to check this out. It's very similar in tone, and while maybe she's won't feature characters all from the same family (like the McKays), they will be characters who pop up from time to time in each book. There's p-l-e-n-t-y of sexcapades in this book, a couple of sweet heroes who like to get 'nekkid' all the time, and who like to order Lainie to 'get nekkid', and a heroine who finally decides to grow up and take control of her life. Add a sweet HEA and you've got a pretty decent read and a promising beginning to a new series. 4 stars.

Warning: This book contains explicit sex (including oral and anal); raunchy language; some light bondage and use of an unusual item as a sex toy; and a m/f/m ménage. Not for the faint of heart!(less)

I thought the beginning was a little slow, and it was a little weird that neither of the three people in the relationship had ever had a threesome, but the two guys were quick to decide they were fine with it; although, it was nice for once for the men to show some jealousy since usually in this type of book everyone is just fine with sharing.

This book addresses one of my big questions with all the MFM books I read where there is no jealousy, no competition, no hard feelings.

Lainie has been seeing both Hank amd Kyle and when she's caught, the guys suggest they embark on a threesome, a new concept for all of them. This was an entertaining book since the reader gets the feeling that Lainie is used to long dry spells without sex and having 2 men is definitely out of the ordinary for her. When the 2 men confront her it is pretty funny. I loved how the sparks flew especially since they are actually best friends!! Both want Lainie in a deeper relationship. Hank and Kyle are very virile and masculine men who don’t want to ruin their friendship but are determined to stake a claim on her. Because they are afraid of loosing her they propose to share and I mean a ménage! None of them have had any experience with a ménage and it was a believable and a sexy read.

There are also troubles for Lainie as she discovers some truths about those she has cared about and a crisis at work which makes her reevaluate her job. So this book also has a plot. But the best part by far is the 2 sexy men. They both make plays for Lainie and as a result this book sizzles. Reading this romance was like having your cake and eating ALL of it!! Yum! But Lainie has to pick one of them; the question is which stud will she choose?

If you love authentic westerns and HOT rugged cowboys with a lot of steamy sex this book will not disappoint! This was definitely a quick and fun summer read.

I always like a good cowboy love story and this one meets my standards. I was pulled in from the first page. I’m not always a fan of ménages in my erotica because I tend to wonder how it is possible that the woman don’t find one man better than the next. The overall premise of the story is that Lainie knows deep down that she is going to have to choose. I knew that the decision was going to hard. Hank was the typical Alpha male in that he was strong, sexy and silent. Kyle was more of the wild type. Each one of them appealed to different sides of Lainie’s personality.

When reading erotica that features ménages, I’m always baffled that the author never seems to entwine the tension and jealously from the men at having to compete with one another for the girl. I was so glad that Lorelei James didn’t take this route with this story. While both men acted as though they were in complete agreement with sharing, there was some underlying jealousy and you knew that a war was taking place in the bedroom.

While reading this book, my mind kept wondering which man would win Lainie’s heart. How could a girl make such a tough decision? The dialogue, jealousy and the tension throughout the book was realistic enough for me. At times, I wanted to hate Lainie because she would not choose but the part of me that envies having two gorgeous men chase after me, understood that it was a lot harder for her. Throughout the book as Lainie struggled with her decision about these two cowboys, I was making my own decision about which one she should be with. At the end, there was no doubt in my mind that she had picked the right man for her. I was not disappointed and I was equally satisfied.

The love scenes were just explicitly hot! I had to stop reading after each love scene just to cool down. There was just enough kinkiness in the love scenes to satisfy me without being distasteful.

Corralled is the first book in the Blacktop Cowboys series and I highly anticipated what is up next for those sexy Wyoming cowboys.

I have to hand it to Lorelei James – she writes thinking women’s erotica. It’s all well and fun to give a girl two cowboys to play with. . . but Ms. James goes one better and gives her smutty storylines real heart, and surprising depth. I thought she did it really well in ‘Rough Riders’ book #6, ‘Rough, Raw and Ready’ – and she does it even better in ‘Corralled’. For one thing, the threesome doesn’t come easy to any of the parties involved. The men are uneasy (without being homophobic) and aside from logistical problems, Lainie is concerned for everyone’s feelings. I loved the fact that Lorelei James went beyond just the hot sex (which, consequently, there is plenty of) and asked the questions her readers were probably dying to explore. The in’s and out’s of a ménage à trois relationship.

Kyle punched him in the arm. “It’s a damn cryin’ shame we can’t just share her until she makes up her mind which one of us she likes better.”
Hank’s beer bottle stopped halfway to his mouth. “You know, that ain’t a half-bad idea.”
“I was kiddin’.”
“I’m not.”
“Seriously? Like I’d get her Friday night and you’d get her Saturday night? Hank. Buddy. You know that’d never work. Especially when we’d be in the same town, knowing exactly what’s goin’ on behind closed motel doors. Maybe in the motel room right next door.”
“True. But what if. . .?”
Now he’d piqued Kyle’s curiosity. “What if. . .?”

The title should also give something away as to the greater exploration of the book. ‘Corralled’ meaning animal pens and enclosures – confinement. The book is ultimately about Lainie being with Hank and Kyle together, in order to choose which one she wants to end up with. Now, ‘corralled’ isn’t exactly the nicest allusion to ‘monogamy’, but it was interesting to read Hank and Kyle’s one-upmanship and increasing pressure to out-perform one another. It made for some lovely, heated encounters for Lainie, and kept me guessing throughout the book. . . I honestly could not guess which cowboy Lainie would pick, and that kept the erotica interesting.

Fair warning, Ms James does go into lots of detail about the CRA (Cowboy Rodeo Association) and EBS (Extreme Bull Showcase). I still don’t know if those are real organizations, but quite frankly the entire bull-riding American cowboy thing is over my head. I love the idea of cowboys, but I don’t really understand the grand-standing spectacular of these cowboy events. James goes into detail about the behind-the-scenes politics of both organizations, and a few underhanded tactics that didn’t really pique my interest until the end. . . otherwise there was a lot of bull-riding factoids to wade through.

‘Corralled’ is the first book in Lorelei James’s new series, ‘Blacktop Cowboys’. There were a few characters in ‘Corralled’ that I hope we revisit in future books. . . like Hank’s siblings Abe and Celia, Lainie’s cowgirl best friend Tanna and the man who didn’t win Lainie’s heart. The second book ‘Saddled and Spurred’ sounds good, but introduces a whole new cast of characters. I love Lorelei Jame’s superior erotica writing, and her sensuous sex scenes, and I’m definitely sticking to ‘Blacktop Cowboys’, but I do hope she revisits the minor characters introduced in ‘Corralled’.(less)

I read this book because I want to read Saddled and Spurred. I know, I can just read Saddled and Spurred but I have a OCD problem where I HAVE to read to the books in order. I read the Black Dagger Brotherhood books out of order and was confused as all get up. I read the Rough Riders series out of order and was beyond confused as to who was married to whom and yada yada yada. So, I read them in order now.

And this book did NOT live up to the expectation I have for Ms. James erotic novels. Oh, don't get me wrong, there was a lot, A LOT, of eroticism, but, (are you sitting down?) too much! The book failed to give a decent background story of the guys in proper timing. You learn a lot about Laine but not enough about Kyle and Hank. I just don't get the "Hey, we're hot cowboys and wanna take you on a 3 week sex session, wanna cum? I-I mean come?" There was little plot and when you throw in so much sex, no matter how hot, I feel like I'm describing hustler magazine to blind person.

I liked Laine. I liked the dichotomy between her past and her profession and the growing she does during the book. The incident at the EBR tent towards the end of the book and the subsequent events that take place really brought the book up a few Floozies. I was prepared to give this book 1 Floozy *shakes head in shame* but, when Hank gives the boss man a What For after all that went down then follows Laine and his heart to Cheyenne I fell in love with them. I love a good menage but when there isn't a decent background and/or plot it gets old and I just want the bonding between the hero and heroine to start. It was a shock for me to get all the way through 80% of the book before I was invested. Definitely not the norm for a Lorelei James book!

I LOVED Kyle, and wanna read more about my Norse God Cowboy, maybe that could be the title of his book. Will it be with Celia? One can only hope, she is such a spitfire, I love her! And regardless of my feelings of this book, I will read Saddled and Spurred. I can already tell by the great excerpts floating around that it has a stronger plot and more in depth characters!(less)

STORY BRIEF:
Lainie is a medical technician who travels the rodeo circuit to treat injuries of contestants. She begins a relationship with Hank, a bullfighter. Later she meets Kyle, a bull rider, and starts seeing him as well. The two men have always been in different locations until one event where all three are together. The guys find out Lainie has been dating the other, and Lainie finds out the guys have been friends since they were kids. Lainie doesn’t want to choose between them, so the guys decide to share her at the same time. This has been a secret fantasy of hers, so she agrees. They get a camper, and the three of them travel together for the next three weeks where the guys will be doing the same rodeo circuit. The plan was for threesomes, but several circumstances cause Lainie to be with just one of the guys. So there is some jealousy and fairness attempts to provide “alone time” with the other guy.

Some of the conflicts and side stories include: A lot of time is spent on rodeo events and life on the road for rodeo people. Hank’s sister is secretly performing in rodeos. Hank is torn between working on the family ranch vs. rodeo work. Lainie’s job is changing. It’s becoming obvious that Lainie will need to choose between the men. Lainie is assaulted by someone.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
This wasn’t as good as some of her other cowboy books. I wanted a better story or to be more emotionally drawn to the characters. Part of the story included someone assaulting Lainie which was not developed enough. It was resolved in a believable way, but it wasn’t interesting. It had potential. The purpose of the book is hot cowboy sex. But the sex scenes were just ok, not special, not hot enough. Maybe due to lack of emotional pull. I’m not sure why. A few times I wanted it to be over. Sex scenes included two men with one woman and rear door activity.

OTHER BOOKS:
My two favorite Lorelei James books are in the Rough Riders series: “All Jacked Up” and “Cowgirl Up and Ride.” I gave 4 stars to both of them. “Corralled” is the first book in the Blacktop Cowboys series.

This was one of my most anticipated reads this year because I am completely and utterly devoted and in love with her Rough Riders series. I’ve come to expect an emotional and compelling read that goes well beyond what you might expect from an erotic romance. Yes, these books are hot, hot, hot, but it’s the emotion and the characters that drive the story which make her love scenes beyond compare. She’s my favorite contemporary erotic romance writer for a reason, and Corralled is her most sexually driven erotic romance yet.

We first meet Lainie in a bar discussing with her friend her dilemma of being sexually involved with two men at the same time (but not together…yet). They both fulfill different desires and needs and she finds herself in a predicament when both of them show up at the same bar to surprise her. She’s horrified to have been caught, and shocked when she finds out that they are boyhood friends. Lainie feels that despite her growing attraction to each man that she needs to sever her relationship to both men because it’s impossible for her to choose between them and doesn’t want to be the reason their friendship becomes strained.

Hank and Kyle refuse to let Lainie go because both feel more for her than a simple attraction. In a desperate plan to try and win her heart they decide that they would be willing to share her if that means that their time with her won’t end so soon. However, neither sees this as a long term solution. They both pull out all of the seductive stops in hopes that during “Cowboy Christmas”, where they will be riding the rodeo circuit together for a few short, but grueling weeks that she will grow to love one more than the other and make a tough choice. Lainie comes to realize the difference between lust and love, and must break one man’s heart.

Corralled is a m/f/m ménage, however it is unlike most that are being written today. No matter how well written and convincing a ménage plot is there is always a thought where I wonder if a committed and loving relationship between two alpha males and one female can really work without jealousies and problems. Corralled presents that dilemma to the reader, and it’s not all copacetic.

Hank and Kyle are two very alpha and possessive cowboys who agree to share her, but neither sees this as a long term solution. Each wants Lainie for themselves….alone. And in the end Lainie does have stronger feelings and falls in love with just one of them. But the reader is left guessing which one she might choose until one special scene towards the end of the book after they all make love together, where Lainie reveals her feelings to the one not chosen. I loved that the complexities and realities of a ménage relationship were addressed in Corralled. I loved that in the end Lainie fell “in love” with only one of them, even though she will always love the other as well.

Most of the story is told through their sexual encounters because the men compete with each other through their intimate time with Lainie as a way to show their love and affection for her. However that is not the only thing this book is about. The heart of the book it is not about sex, but about Lainie and everyone she has relationships with in her life…most of them slightly dysfunctional. Her relationship with her mother is strained; her relationship with her mentor and employer is not all that she believes and trusts in, her relationship and growing feelings with Hank and Kyle and how she at first chooses to avoid making a choice and her missing relationship with the father who died a rodeo icon.

Lainie’s journey in Corralled is short, but intense, and yes very sexual. However, I wish that there would have been a few more scenes between Lainie, Hank and Kyle outside of the love scenes. For instance, during their courtship Kyle takes Lainie on a date to a carnival while on the road. It’s a first for Lainie and the reader is told how special the day was to her, but unfortunately we don’t learn much more about that time for her. I wanted more of those types of moments….I missed that insight into how she finally chose the man she did. I also wished that the story would have begun when she first started her relationship with each man instead of at the point that Kyle and Hank found out about each other. Would it have made a difference to the story? Probably not, it’s just a pet peeve of mine to not be there as a reader when the hero and heroine start their journey towards love (unless it’s a reunion story). These are just two issues that I had in an otherwise great romance with cowboy heroes that are definitely hard to choose between. Lainie was one lucky lady :) Corralled will not disappoint fans of Lorelei James and is a promising beginning to a series that I hope becomes as beloved as her Rough Riders.

Overall: 4.25 stars

Then I started reading it…lol “Corralled” is a book about one woman and the two men who want her. She is currently seeing both of them separately. The men think that having her chose is unacceptable – and besides, she refuses to do that. So the men have the ingenious idea of sharing her…at the same time. Yup. Only men would think this to be an ingenious idea. Because it’s not like this idea has a whole lot of trouble written all over it!

Lainie is torn. She sometimes wonders why Hank and Kyle both want her at all, but they are quick to help her answer her question (*wink wink* *nudge nudge*). Hank is a bullfighter. He is manly. He comes from a great family and is gentle yet masculine. He is vanilla…or is he? Kyle is a bullrider. He is studly. He is kind yet dominant. He is chocolate. I like Kyle. I love Hank.

There was a whole lot of lovin’ in this book, but none of it was just put there to make you sweat. Okay, scratch that. There was one scene that involved the great outdoors, a workhorse and a saddle, some rope, lube and an orange condom that was incredibly steamy, but I felt as though it didn’t really add to the story. But it did make me go ‘yea-haw’ for Lainie. ;)

Of course, eventually Lainie’s feeling grow stronger for one man over the other. It’s inevitable really. I really like how Lorelei handles that situation. It’s a little heartbreaking to read but the moment when man B realizes he won’t ever be man A is quite tender. There is no wild jealousy. No uncalled for viciousness. It’s very well contended with, which helped make the overall story was, strangely enough, quite believable.

Oh, and the guy on the cover looks like Ben Affleck but with better abs. I’m just saying…

“Corralled” was fun to read. A little more serious than I was expecting, but fun none the less. Will I read it again? I honestly don’t know — hence the .5 in my rating. Will I pick up the other books in this series? Heck yeah! Those rancher boys are a steamin’ like a pot of mama’s home cooked bull stew and I can’t wait to saddle ‘em up again! *slaps Hubby’s butt* *gets strange look from Hubby* *looks at the ceiling* *starts whistling while slowly walking away*.
