Siapa pula yang tak mengen...more

This collection illustrates very well what is meant by the term "a cozy mystery." The stories in this book are like little puzzles, and they are a pleasure to read. Poirot is strong here, exercising his "little grey cells." I found it interesting that there are a couple of stories where Captain Hastings is not present. In the last story, we meet Poirot's secretary, Miss Lemon, who is passionate about filing systems but not so much about human interaction. The collection featu...more

Something from the top of my bucket list: I want to solve a big mystery like Poirot. Not many mysterious things happen around me, though, so I might have to stick with trying (and usually failing) to solve Poirot's cases. Luckily for me, they are plentiful.

This collection was very good. The stories were short enough and interesting enough to keep me entertained. Sometimes in the longer Poirot books, my mind loses the train of the plot but these short stories were great. I actually...more

Very nice, reading this isn't like going to Grandma's and checking out her antique doilies, but it's also not like driving Granddad's cherry '65 Mustang. This is the origin of mystery. The beginning of CSI, Law & Order, heck Perry Mason. Though I have to say that in Poirot, you can see the beginnings of Criminal Minds and Mentalist.
Dame Agatha, through Poirot, does have a great number of stories that fall into the standard, clue-clue-clue-solve template, but while Poirot does worship a...more

I like Hercule Poirot. I have not read as many Miss Marple or Tommy & Tuppence books. M. Poirot is my favorite Christie hero.

I have found that Hercule is good company for a road trip. He works his little gray cells and occasionally I can solve the crimes almost as soon as M. Poirot. I am always ahead of Hastings, but that is to be expected. I am fairly sure I had already listened to this book, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.

I got to this book because it was donated to t...more

A lovely collection of Poirot short stories – published in periodicals early in Christie’s career – which provided much of the grist for the early episodes of "Agatha Christie’s Poirot".

Aided by Hastings, Inspector Japp and the sublime Miss Lemon, Poirot investigates a vast array of cases including murder, kidnapping, theft, espionage and extortion. Hercule Poirot isn’t best represented by his short stories, but there are quite a few clever tales in this collection, and ind...more

I've long been a fan of Agatha Christie's little Belgian. Most often we watch this Bitish mystery series on Public Television.

When I came across this collection of Poirot's earlier cases, I couldn't pass it up. Turns out we have seen some of these stories as episodes in the television series, but many of them were new to me.

I kept pacing myself throught this book. I just didn't want to reach the end. It was a treat to snuggle up with my tea and get right into the next sto...more

Another book of Poirot short stories as told by Hastings. There's some good stuff in here and Poirot shows good form in solving the cases.

The book is rather longer than noted by Goodreads (being 412 pages) as at the date of writing this review. That information will be changed shortly now that I have obtained librarian status.

It's written as a series of short stories rather than one full mystery. I don't like short stories so much, so it's pretty amazing I liked the book at all. (But then, it is Agatha Christie!)

A nice collection of Hercule Poirot short stories featuring both Hugh Fraser (Capt. Hastings) and David Suchet (H. Poirot) reading the stories in turn. Humor and thrilling well mixed. Enjoyable.

This collection of short stories are all-together amusing. But they lack the character development and the intricate unfolding of each case that I usually find in Christie's novels. But, still, if you're a fan of hers, it's a definite must-read.

A great set of short stories. They're only about 10 pages each so makes them easy to read in sections. It's like a masterclass of how to write a mystery. They are fun and puzzling.
Ashley
I like that this book was written in first person from the point of view of Hastings, Poirot's assistant and friend. Can you top the queen of mystery? Good read.

Buenisimas todas las historias, principalmente por aquella de "la caja de bombones" la historia de un fracaso de monsieur"Hércules Poirot" en la resolución de un caso
Judy
A totally enjoyable collection of short stories all staring Hercule Poirot. I limited myself to one story a day to prolong my reading pleasure.

Would have given it 3.5 stars.I really don't read short stories, this being the only exception.Love Poirot though.
Audra
My favorite stories in this collection were The Affair At The Victory Ball, The Adventure Of Johnie Waverly, and Problem At Sea.

This is a series of short stories of Christie's legendary detective, Hercule Poirot. I read one or two each day and since they are early writings you see the character developing. Timeless Agatha Christie, I was surprised the Goodreads listing only showed the audio, I read this one electronically on my iPad.
Julaine
Sorry, Kara, but I think the short stories are just ok.

Amazing. Written cunningly.

Audio version, and so superb! It was quite wonderful to have David Suchet (Hercule himself) voicing these stories! And they are classic Christie. A great listen!

I've been picking up this volume of short stories since July, for doctor's waiting rooms, chemo treatments, whenever my concentration is low. I knew I'd read some of these many years ago, in fact a few I remembered fairly well - others were new to me. Overall I enjoyed this collection of puzzles although I prefer Christie's novels.

A pity these stories weren't longer! Extremely entertaining, with the classic ingenious Poirot touch that leaves you satisified. I loved being able to find out about Poirot before he became famous; the cases were both interesting and fun, and not quite as morbid as some of the later ones, without losing any of the suspense and tension.

each chapter is a new quick mystery.

Agatha Christie also wrote romance novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott.

Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born in Torquay, Devon, England, U.K., as the youngest of three. The Millers had two other children: Margaret Frary Miller (1879–1950), called Madge, who was eleven years Agatha's senior, and Louis Montant Miller (1880–1929), called Monty, ten years older than Agatha.
