If I hadn't read any of the previous Malory novels, I think I wouldn't have been so disappointed with the storyline and characters in this book. I hate to say it, but I think Lindsey has lost some of her writing magic because she hasn't been able to create the same quality of books she as those in the past. I have always loved Johanna Lindsey's books, but her last three books have been disappointing and I probably would waste my money to purchase one for my own.

Captive of My Desires was a fairly good book but definitely not as good as some of the previous books in the series. After Gabrielle Brook’s mom passed away she searches for her father and finds out he is a pirate. For 3 years she lives at sea with her father while searching for treasure and making up for their lost time together. Then the day comes where her father decides she must go back to England and find a man to marry. She doesn’t want to give up her life at sea but she does so in order t...more

After the death of her mother, an upstanding member of the upper class in regency era England, Gabrielle Brooks voyages to the Caribbean to find her father, whom she barely knows as he has been away or many years in his business as a tradesman. Gabrielle discovers that her father is in fact a "gentlemen pirate", though her mother never knew, and decides to stay and live with him on the island of St. Kitts. Three years later, her father decides it is time she find a husband and that she deserves...more

Really Really LOVED IT!! I can't believe I had it for a month and had not bothered reading it.

Anyway, As usual Johanna Lindsey had successfully written an awesome book. :) I haven't read James Malory's story yet, I think. I don't know why. I guess I have to read their book now. Although I didn't like the fact that Georgina had way more suitors than Gabrielle. I think she had 3 while Gabby only had 2. I mean I like Georgina but this book's heroine is Gabby so she should be the center of attentio...more

I've loved Johanna Lindsey's Malory books ever since I picked up Gentle Rogue. I went back and got the first two and have been following them ever since. I was glad when I saw that Lindsey is continuing the series with the Anderson brothers.

With that being said, I have to be truthful. I didn't like this book as well as I'd liked the previous ones. I felt Drew Anderson was too much of an arrogant hero. Perhaps others would disagree with me, however, I kept thinking that he was getting his way all...more

Priates.
Not the ones you'd normally think of, ones that kill for the joy of it, like to spend their off times on Tortuga and pillaging and what -not.
But, more 'gentlemanly' pirates. If there was such a thing.
Who have homes, some have wives, they don't like to kill people.

An Interesting theory.

Gabrielle Brooks is set out to find her father after he mothers death, and is surprised to find out that he is, in all accounts, one of these pirates. Although he considers himself more of a treasure h...more

Sorry to say it was a yawner. Don't get me wrong, I finished it. I just didn't feel the love- and, unfortunately, it's been like that for quite some time with her latest releases. I used to eat up all her novels like a fat kid eating cake. Not anymore.

The only thing I really liked about this foray into the Mallory saga was the fact that it brought to mind Pirates of the Caribbean Two. Other than that ... the heroine's backstory is rushed (it would have been a ton more interesting if Lindsey had...more

wow it was soo good! i think that maybe it was the best book in whole series! even better then James's book! (cant believe that im saying this :D)

it was adventurous, romantic, sweet, cute, funny... all the things that i adore in a romance book :D i loved the fact that in this book we could see english ballrooms, ton, fancy life... and then sea, pirates, storms and captures!
the contrast was absolutely fascinating :D and the fact that two of my most fav characters had a big part to play in this bo...more

Ugh. Looks like I dipped in the Malory well one too many times. After reading The Magic of You and Say You Love Me, and enjoying both immensely, I was looking forward to more of the same with Captive of My Desires. What a let-down. Not only were the hero and heroine totally mismatched, but I couldn't suspend disbelief enough to accept that any man would want this b*ch for a wife, much less one of Georgina's brothers.

First of all, where did the cheeky, fun-loving Drew Anderson from prior Malory...more

About the Series:
This is your typical HR series. Wealthy & powerful English nobility at its finest; but this is not your typical family. Meet the Malorys. A beautiful, strong, determined, humorous & overall very enjoyable family. Beautiful people finding beautiful soul-mates sometimes quite begrudgingly. This family is full of stubborn & driven people that are lovely & hilarious. The men are sexy, strong, rake type alpha males; who are fun, carefree, witty & quite determined...more

I enjoy Johanna Lindsey romance novels, especially when I want a quick read to enjoy. My only problem is that I have not read the entire Malory series. Therefore, I do not know all of the characters and do not get a “full story” few of any of the few novels that I have picked up in the series . . . which is slightly annoying.

Captive of My Desires is the story of a young English girl, Gabrielle Brooks, that sets off for the Caribbean after her mother passes away to search for her merchant father...more

Overall, I greatly enjoyed this book. In a nutshell, I do not think this book is up to the standards set by the others, but was still overall a wonderful and enjoyable read!

Not in a nutshell, (view spoiler)[ there were a couple problems that really did this book a disservice in my opinion. The first happened right off in the book although it wasn't too big a deal. Avery. Avery just kept getting randomly name-dropped in a very broken manner. In the beginning, he was made out to be important to he...more

Johanna Lindsey’s Captive of My Desires was recommended by a friend. Captive of my Desires was a swashbuckling and adventurous historical novel with a winsome plot, sensual men, and feisty women. Our heroine is a cheeky- take charge heroine- and yes, she does take prisoners. I also enjoyed and what captivated my attention as different from many historical romance novels that take place in England, is that Captive of my Desires showed more than just the usual socially ruled lives of regent Englan...more

WOW! I don't really agree morally with the lifestyle that is presented in the book but I must say this woman can write a great romantic story. I hate romance novels but I have absolutely fallen in love with the way this woman writes about love stories. Although the love making scenes are BEAUTIFULLY and WONDERFULLY described she shows the fighting and aggrevating side of love and how that can stimulate an amazing love life in some cases!!! It has adventure and mystery and scandal in the most une...more

Akhirnya baca juga JL judul lain setelah berbulan-bulan nggak baca karna trauma dengan Secret Fire dan Prisoner of My Desire.
Main pinjem aja tanpa tahu ini seri, apalagi seri ke-8.

I gotta say buku ini lumayan.

Dari segi terjemahan, duh, semakin kuat alasan kenapa saya m...more

I'm sorry but it was all I could do to get thru this book. It was just quite boring and dragged then on parts that I may have enjoyed reading like Gabrielle's time spent with her father it skipped over and quickly advanced us into the future.

I didn't really care for any of the characters one way or the other but I especially never took a liking to James who to me always came off snooty although he used to be a pirate himself. The only time I really got excited about the entire story was when Gab...more

Captive of My Desires is one of favorite Johanna Lindsey books of all time! It's one of the go-to books in my library, one I read over and over again. This time I approached the book differently. I listened to Gabby and Drew's story on audio, narrated by the fabulous Laural Merlington. Let me tell you there's no better way to drive to work and back then listening to this book. I laughed, grinned at Gabby's antics, Drew's cunning, and couldn't wait to finish the 5 discs. But here's where you know...more

Mallory ailesine 8. kitaptan dalmış olmamı göz ardı ederek diyebilirim ki gerçekten güzel bir romandı. Serinin tamamını okumak istedim şu an hatta. Kitabın zirvesi ise Gabrielle'in Drew'in gemisini çalarak onu zincirlemesiydi. Uçsuz bucaksız...more

Gemideki atışmalar , tartışmalar , çekişmeler oldukça eğl...more

Buku ke8 seri Malory-Anderson Family

Suka kisah romantis bajak laut pencari harta, apalagi kalo jagoannya cewe yg tahu apa yg diinginkannya dan cepat tanggap dalam menghadapi masalah, dan diakhir kisah sang heroine menjadi harta berharga bagi sang hero walau sedari awal sang hero tak ingin berhubungan dengan apapun yg berkaitan dengan bajak laut.

Not one of my favorite Malory books. While I did actually enjoy most of the book and my biggest complaint isn't that large of a part it did make me take off a star. I was hooked at the beginning of this book and wondered who the woman to catch Drew would be. I was happy when Gabby came into the picture. I liked her character and knew it would be a good fit for the man with a sweetheart in every port. I was hooked into their romance all the way until the capturing of Drew's ship. Then we went thr...more

Drew menjadikan Gaby tahanan, dan memp...more

I loved this book, so intriguing and definitely funny (and fun)! Biggest downfall was the extremely rushed ending! It definitely left me wanting to know a little bit more about what happens to the main characters! All in all, the ending was still good. I have heard that Johanna's other books are much better so in saying that my review and stars may rate lower however, I've never read a book like this before (pirates and their enevitable style of simply acting like such normal humans)so I feel li...more

I’m actually embarrassed to publicly admit I read this book, but writing reviews for romance novels can be entertaining in itself. This one was added to my reading list because of its 3-week stay on the New York Times hard-cover fiction best-seller list in the summer of 2006, and somehow it percolated up to next-read status. Only when I checked it out of the library did I realize what I was in for – the front cover was a dead giveaway, and on the back sat the author, reminding me of the characte...more

First Line: "She'd been told to hide, and stay hidden."

So I can never resist a romance novel with pirates and nor another book in the Mallory series - Gentle Rouge is one of my all time favorite romances which I still read when I'm in a guilty pleasures kind of mood. Lindsey's historicals are definitely borderline old skool romance, but not so much so that I want to scream in frustration. I occasionally like my alpha, overbearing heroes. Captive of my Desires was a fine read - one I was willing...more

Johanna Helen Howard was born on March 10, 1952 in Germany, where her father, Edwin Dennis Howard, a soldier in the U.S. Army was stationed. The family moved about a great deal when she was young. Her father always dreamed of retiring to Hawaii, and after he passed away in 1964 Johanna and her mother settled there to honor him.

In 1970, when she was still in school, she married Ralph Lindsey, becom...more
