If I hadn't read any of the previous Malory novels, I think I wouldn't have been so disappointed with the storyline and characters in this book. I hate to say it, but I think Lindsey has lost some of her writing magic because she hasn't been able to create the same quality of books she as those in the past. I have always loved Johanna Lindsey's books, but her last three books have been disappointing and I probably would waste my money to purchase one for my own.

After Gabrielle Brook’s mom passed away she searches for her father and finds out he is a pirate. For 3 years she lives at sea with her father while searching for treasure and making up for their lost time together. She doesn’t want to give up her life at sea but she does so in order to make her father happy; after all a season in London is what her mother always wanted for her.

James and Georgina Malory sponsor her for the season since James owed Gabrielle’s father a favor for saving his life many years ago. When Gabrielle meets Georgina’s brother, Drew Anderson, she can’t keep her eyes off of him. Whenever she’s near him her heart starts to pound dramatically. The fact that he owns his own ship and loves living at sea is a big plus for him. Gabrielle adds him on the top of her husband list but Drew is determined to only get her in his bed, no marriage involved! He never plans to marry but instead enjoys having his women at every port. One night Drew is drunk and while at a ball he yells that Gabrielle is a Pirate. He does this out of jealousy (of course) since Gabrielle is spending so much time with another suitor. The outburst practically ruins her reputation, she’s so angry and no longer wants him as her husband instead she is determined to get revenge.

When Gabrielle finds out her father is being held captive she has the perfect plan to get even with Drew. She captures his ship, holds Drew as captive and sets sail to save her father. She makes Drew believe that she actually is a pirate (when really she's not) and captaining his ship. She’s also determined to make him crave for her and want her so bad that it hurts! Her plan was working quite well until suddenly the tables are turned and Drew is the one holding Gabrielle captive when he regains control over his ship.

This book was driving me crazy. The games that Drew and Gabrielle played dragged on quite a bit. They were constantly trying to drive each other mad until one of them gave in. Eventually Drew realized he can’t be without Gabrielle and proposed to her in an odd way. In turn, Gabrielle accepted but also in an odd way. I still thought it was a good book! Drew is quite a character!

Really Really LOVED IT!! I can't believe I had it for a month and had not bothered reading it.

Anyway, As usual Johanna Lindsey had successfully written an awesome book. :) I haven't read James Malory's story yet, I think. I don't know why. I guess I have to read their book now. Although I didn't like the fact that Georgina had way more suitors than Gabrielle. I think she had 3 while Gabby only had 2. I mean I like Georgina but this book's heroine is Gabby so she should be the center of attentio...more

I've loved Johanna Lindsey's Malory books ever since I picked up Gentle Rogue. I went back and got the first two and have been following them ever since. I was glad when I saw that Lindsey is continuing the series with the Anderson brothers.

With that being said, I have to be truthful. I didn't like this book as well as I'd liked the previous ones. I felt Drew Anderson was too much of an arrogant hero. Perhaps others would disagree with me, however, I kept thinking that he was getting his way all...more I've loved Johanna Lindsey's Malory books ever since I picked up Gentle Rogue. With that being said, I have to be truthful. I didn't like this book as well as I'd liked the previous ones. I felt Drew Anderson was too much of an arrogant hero. Perhaps others would disagree with me, however, I kept thinking that he was getting his way all the time, getting the better of the heroine.

I'm not much for spoilers, but the following is one aspect of the story that didn’t sit well with me.

Gabrielle learns of something to do with her father that needs her to leave England right away. Which is While Drew and Gabrielle, along with Drew’s sister, the heroine of Gentle Rogue, Georgie Malory, are at a ball, Drew (supposedly) in jest drunkenly blurted in front of a notorious gossip and Gabrielle’s wannabe suitor that she came from a family of pirates.

Gabrielle is furious and is relieved when she hears news that has her leaving England hastily. At this point, Drew Anderson has absolutely no idea of what he has done. The part that soured me? It was the fact that Drew had no idea, and even when he found out, he wasn’t as sorry as I felt he should’ve been. In fact, around this time is when Drew and Gabrielle become more…acquainted. The way that Gabrielle just let Drew’s behavior go and started to be dreamy about him made me harrumph.

Naturally, I want to see the hero and heroine get together. Unfortunately Lindsey makes Drew so arrogant in the beginning and middle, that by the end of the book, I can’t quite fully make myself like him.

Overall, I would say this is another fine example of Johanna Lindsey’s writing. Unfortunately, as I’ve described, this book isn’t what I’ve come to expect out of the Malory series. I would recommend if you’re a die-hard Lindsey fan and a follow of the Malory series, read it just to see how the previous family members are getting along, but don’t expect to put this on your keeper shelf.

Priates.
Not the ones you'd normally think of, ones that kill for the joy of it, like to spend their off times on Tortuga and pillaging and what -not.
But, more 'gentlemanly' pirates. If there was such a thing.
Who have homes, some have wives, they don't like to kill people.

Sorry to say it was a yawner. Don't get me wrong, I finished it. I just didn't feel the love- and, unfortunately, it's been like that for quite some time with her latest releases. I used to eat up all her novels like a fat kid eating cake. Not anymore.

The only thing I really liked about this foray into the Mallory saga was the fact that it brought to mind Pirates of the Caribbean Two. Other than that ... the heroine's backstory is rushed (it would have been a ton more interesting if Lindsey had...more

wow it was soo good! i think that maybe it was the best book in whole series! even better then James's book! (cant believe that im saying this :D)

it was adventurous, romantic, sweet, cute, funny... all the things that i adore in a romance book :D i loved the fact that in this book we could see english ballrooms, ton, fancy life... and then sea, pirates, storms and captures!

Shelves: ugh, what-does-he-see-in-her

Ugh. Looks like I dipped in the Malory well one too many times. After reading The Magic of You and Say You Love Me, and enjoying both immensely, I was looking forward to more of the same with Captive of My Desires. What a let-down. Not only were the hero and heroine totally mismatched, but I couldn't suspend disbelief enough to accept that any man would want this b*ch for a wife, much less one of Georgina's brothers.

First of all, where did the cheeky, fun-loving Drew Anderson from prior Malory...more Ugh. Looks like I dipped in the Malory well one too many times. After reading The Magic of You and Say You Love Me, and enjoying both immensely, I was looking forward to more of the same with Captive of My Desires. What a let-down. Not only were the hero and heroine totally mismatched, but I couldn't suspend disbelief enough to accept that any man would want this b*ch for a wife, much less one of Georgina's brothers.

First of all, where did the cheeky, fun-loving Drew Anderson from prior Malory novels go? This "new" Drew was sulky and morose...having nothing to contribute to a conversation until he was fortified with "liquid courage". Then all he did was mock and discredit Gabriella repeatedly, scandalizing her to a point where she was no longer suitable marriage material. Was he remorseful in the least? Nah...blame it on love. Or in this case, don't blame it on anything...Drew never had to explain himself. If that wasn't bad enough, Drew ends up taking Gabriella's virginity with one mighty thrust. Oops...thought you were a real female pirate (= slutty?). I'll make it up to you next time. Yeah, whatever dickhead...you can't break it twice.

A well-written sex scene might have been able to incorporate the act of manly stupidity but I've come to realize JL doesn't do description where sex is concerned (at least not in the Malory Family). The first time is usually a paragraph or so and then it's just "doing the deed" every time thereafter. Major turnoff for me. It wasn't so noticeable in prior Malory books because the stories were strong enough on their own; this story, however, begged for the sexual assist and got nothing but a big OUCH!

Sad to say, but I could just about forgive Drew all of his notable shortcomings simply because the woman he has been teamed up with has to be the Worst. Heroine. Ever. I sensed disaster with Drew & Gabriella's first encounter...she was in the process of being knocked to the ground by an errant cart and he grabbed her arm to keep her from tumbling. Her first response? "Let me go. You are bruising my arm." LOL She only got worse.

As a favor to her father, Jack & Georgina sponsor Gabriella for a London season; however, one fateful night Drew drunkenly announces she is a pirate AND she gets word her father is in danger. So to show Jack & George how much she appreciates all the time and money they spent on her, she scribbles a quick "thanks but I'm outta here" note and disappears into the night. To show Drew how pleased she was with his escort, she (and her cohorts) comandeer Drew's ship and crew - shackling the men to the floor - and set sail for St. Kitts Obviously, Drew isn't the happiest of campers and gives Gabriella the serious "evil eye". Thwack! She smashes his head with a pistol, knocks him unconscious, then hopes she didn't kill him. But that's what he deserves for how dare he call her a pirate! Adding insult to injury, she strips naked and climbs into his bed...hoping that he will long for something he can't have.

TIME OUT: I must renege here on any unfavorable comments I made about Drew in regards to the "mighty thrust". This is that rare incident where the heroine truly deserved what she got.

Sometime during this pleasant cruise, Drew & Gabriella fall madly in love (yes, with each other) and cannot wait a moment longer to be married. Yawn! Who cares? Long before reaching this point, I had turned the sound down and was reading a much better book - "2000+ Essential Italian Verbs" (LMAO for those that understand my strangeness)

1.5 stars for good narration

Also, I LOVE that each additional book still includes the previous couples from the family, so that by the end of the series we should be enjoying books full of fun & loving Malorys that we have all come to thoroughly love! It's like I get to continue to read about their lives long after their actual book is done.

About this Book:
This is probably my least favorite book in the series but that is not to say it is a bad book. I am disappointed that I liked it the least since I have always enjoyed Drew's character in the series. I think my problem arises from having less of the book written from the male's perspective than usual for Lindsey's writing style; and since there is less from Drew's perspective, it doesn't feel like he is falling in love until closer to the end. That gives the whole book a more frustrating feel since you feel like he just wants in her pants & Gabi is just too weak to see he is using her. Towards the end of the book he becomes the Drew I was expecting but it is a little too little, a little too late. Overall, it is still a good book. Interesting story lines, few plot twist & conflicts, some hot scenes and witty humor. My other fun loving Malory's do make some appearances. Love the pirate action. Just wish I had a little more of a love story for my beloved Drew & Gabi. (less)

I enjoy Johanna Lindsey romance novels, especially when I want a quick read to enjoy. My only problem is that I have not read the entire Malory series. Therefore, I do not know all of the characters and do not get a “full story” few of any of the few novels that I have picked up in the series . . . which is slightly annoying.

I'm sorry but it was all I could do to get thru this book. It was just quite boring and dragged then on parts that I may have enjoyed reading like Gabrielle's time spent with her father it skipped over and quickly advanced us into the future.

Captive of My Desires is one of favorite Johanna Lindsey books of all time! It's one of the go-to books in my library, one I read over and over again. This time I approached the book differently. I listened to Gabby and Drew's story on audio, narrated by the fabulous Laural Merlington. Let me tell you there's no better way to drive to work and back then listening to this book. Bahkan setelah mengetahui Gabrielle adalah putri perompak dijadikan alasan bagi Drew untuk merayu Gabrielle.

Gabrielle yg jatuh hati dan menempatkan Drew diurutan teratas sebagai calon suami potensial berusaha memaklumi segala tingkah laku kasar dan sinis Drew terhadap dirinya. Malah Gabrielle bertekad membuat Drew jatuh cinta padanya. Tetapi kemudian Gabrielle tidak dapat menoleransi setelah Drew dengan tanpa sadar membuat pernyataan yg menimbulkan skandal bagi Gabrielle. Gabrielle yg sakit hati kehilangan kesempatan untuk mendapatkan suami akhirnya melancarkan aksi balas dendamnya pada Drew. Bertepatan dengan berita ayahnya dijadikan sandera oleh perompak yg menginginkan Gabrielle dan peta harta karun milik ayahnya, Gabrielle membajak kapal sekaligus menawan awak kapal dan juga Drew. Dengan menakhodai kapal Drew, Gabrielle cs menuju kesarang perompak untuk membebaskan ayahnya.

Drew yg tak sudi dijadikan tawanan Gabrielle cs akhirnya dapat membebaskan diri dan pawa awak kapalnya. Gabrielle dibuat bertekuk lutut dan balik dijadikan tawanan. Namun setelah mengetahui permasalahan yg dihadapi Gabrielle menyangkut ayahnya dan hilangnya kesempatan Gabrielle di London membuat Drew berbalik membantu Gabrielle. Tak hanya itu Drew melamar Gabrielle untuk memperbaiki kesalahan dan kerusakan yg sudah ia perbuat.

Dengan bantuan James, Drew cs dan Gabrielle cs berhasil membebaskan ayah Gabrielle. Drew dan Gabrielle akhirnya menikah dan sebagai hadiah pernikahan mereka, sang ayah mengajak mereka bertualang mencari keberadaan harta berdasarkan peta yg didapat dari liontin warisan ibu Gabrielle. Betapa bahagia Gabrielle saat berhasil menemukan harta dan sang ayah menyerahkannya kepada Gabrielle, serta ucapan Drew yg menyatakan bahwa Drew telah menemukan hartanya sendiri yaitu Gabrielle.(less)

Not one of my favorite Malory books. While I did actually enjoy most of the book and my biggest complaint isn't that large of a part it did make me take off a star. I was hooked at the beginning of this book and wondered who the woman to catch Drew would be. I was happy when Gabby came into the picture. aku suka buku ini. Sosok Drew Anderson yang tinggi merupakan tipikal tipe cowok yang aku idam2kan. Semula Gaby menahan Drew karena berniat balas dendam sekaligus demi misi menyelamatkan ayahnya. I loved this book, so intriguing and definitely funny (and fun)! Biggest downfall was the extremely rushed ending! It definitely left me wanting to know a little bit more about what happens to the main characters! All in all, the ending was still good. So I can never resist a romance novel with pirates and nor another book in the Mallory series - Gentle Rouge is one of my all time favorite romances which I still read when I'm in a guilty pleasures kind of mood. She only sees him occasionally, a couple of times a year, but she loves him... He only married her mom because her mom was looking for a husband to have a child by, and because he thought she the key to finding a portion of a treasure map...

He only married her mom because her mom was looking for a husband to have a child by, and because he thought she the key to finding a portion of a treasure map...

at 18, her mother dies - and the solicitor wants to put her under the guardianship of an unsavory man until she is 21, and ignores her request that her father be located... So she sets out herself to find him... her ship is captured by pirates - a loose confederation of ‘modern’ pirates who treat their hostages well, and trade them for ransom from their families. She attracts the attention of one distasteful captain who murmurs to her all he will do to her once he purchases her... but after month, another captain shows up, and immediately purchases her (the captain who captured her returned to the pirate town that day also)... and that captain ends up to be her father.

She spends 3 years with him... loving his Carribean home, loving the sea, and loving going out with him as he follows his maps looking for treasures. His crew is quite a family, and they include her. But when her father realizes she is of marrying age, and there isn’t any one appropriate for her marry... and that her mother would have wanted her to have a season in London to find a husband, he bundles her up and sends her to James Malory (ex-Captain Hawk). The household knows her father is a pirate, and one of Captain Hawk’s friends).

Georgina’s brothers Drew and Boyd are in town, and Drew is roped into escorting the two women around... Drew is a committed bachelor, having seen his mother’s loneliness when his father was at sea, and knowing that his life is the sea... and he likes having a different woman in every port. And though Gabrielle starts of rocky with Drew, she is attracted to him... he takes liberties with her, thinking that as a pirate’s daughter she is fair game & experienced... but when he doesn’t get her into bed & he can see she’s serious about her husband hunting, he decides to leave early for home... but in a drunken moment of misattention at a ball, he calls attention to the fact that she is a pirate’s daughter... It gets around town immediately...

And then Georgina gets a message that the distasteful captain has broken off with the pirate alliance, set himself up in a renovated fort on his own island, and kidnapped her father - demanding that she personally come with his maps to ransom him... She and her father’s crew that accompanied her to England know that he is actually after her... They need a ship, and she is angry at Drew for blackening her name, and he is ready to sail in the morning, so they decide to hire a few more men, sneak on the ship, and shanghai it...

And Georgina has a plan to make Drew want her... and not to let him have her... So they capture the ship for a week, and Drew is shackled in the captain’s cabin... and she temps Drew (and he does his best to verbally seduce her)... Culminating with his giving him a bath with his hands tied... And that night, he escapes, frees his men, and goes to her bed, and seduces her as she thinks at first it is a dream, ... and when he realizes she was a virgin, he feels a little guilty... He shackles her in his cabin... And after a night of separateness, and another night of a storm, he comes to her to comfort her & makes love to her ... He asks her to marry him, she says yes, he says something disparaging, she takes back her yes, and he says it’s too late, he won’t let her take it back... And they don’t discuss it again. He gives her more and more freedom of the ship... And moves from not turning her over to be jailed, to not turning over her men to be jailed, to helping her rescue her father... And just before they get to the island, Captain Hawk & Georgina arrive in their ship to assist...

Unbeknownst to them, as they discuss their plans, a spy overhears them & warns the distasteful captain ... so the men who go to shore (including James & Drew) are captured, the men on the ships are duped & captured, and she is taken to the distasteful captains bedroom... He leaves her to celebrate a bit with his men 1st... and returns to the room.... just as the men on the ship arrive (having overthrown their captors) and James & Drew escape... So when the fighting begins, the distasteful captain leaves her to find out what is happening... she follows & sees that Drew is okay, and she heads to free her father & his men...

And she & Drew get married on St Kits... and on her wedding day, her father sees a locket she is wearing from her mother and recognizes it as the piece of the map that he had been looking for so long ago... He gives it to Gabrielle as a wedding gift - whatever treasure they find... So on her honeymoon, they all head to the island to look for the treasure... And only find a small box with mementos, letters,... and a dead to the whole island... And Drew is surprised (though she had told him during the seduction/counter seduction days) that she plans to travel with him, because she loved the sea and wanted a husband who did too... and they agree to make the island their home port.(less)
