If it was still beating. Angus MacKay has been undead for almost five hundred years and it's not often something, or someone, surprises him. Until Emma Wallace. The sight of this luscious agent from the CIA's elite Stake-Out team was enough to stop Angus in his tracks. But then he discovers that she's a vampire slayer, intent on killing the "monsters" who killed her parent ...more

I've read three books and one short story in the Love at Stake series. Be Still My Vampire Heart has the weakest title in the series so far but it's the best story. Angus MacKay, Highlander leader of the British coven and responsible for security in the vampire world, is called to New York to solve the vampire hunter problem. The malcontents believe one of the good vamps is attacking their members and turning them into dust, little they know that the hunter is Emma Wallace, CIA agent member of t ...more

So far this one is my favorite books in this series, and I enjoyed it from the start until the end :). Be Still My Vampire Heart is the story about Angus MacKay (weird name, Angus?) and Emma Wallace (not, not Braveheart, LOL)..

Angus MacKay is a vampire. Turned by Roman Draganesti (hero from book one), and the become his close friend and ally. Someday he find a disturbing news. Someone has slaying many vampire outside. Its a good news of course, because the vampire that got slayed is part

Sweet, romantic, fun and sexy.
Ah sweet Angus, he stole my heart. I loved how he checked under his kilt overtime he shifted to make sure he was all there. He was the perfect gentleman, honor bound, respectful and driven to make his woman happy. Oh and happy he does versa well.
< wink >
Emma his sworn enemy, hates all things fanged, she kills them regularly. That is what draws attention to her, she is going to be killed by the malcontent vampires if she doesn't stop. Angus is charged with stop

Be Still My Vampire Heart, is the third installment in the Love at Stake series by Kerrelyn Sparks. I'm ashamed to say this is only my first Sparks book I've read. I've seen this series everywhere, but just never
picked it up. Until I came across this book and decided to give it a go. And am I ever glad I did.
I usually read a series from the start, but since these books are pretty much stand alone, it's not necessary. If you are looking to start from the beginning, book one is called 'How to Ma

So far, I've really been enjoying Kerrelyn Sparks' Love at Stake series. She has created some lovable heroes and heroines engaged in fun and exciting stories, and Be Still My Vampire Heart is no exception. In fact, it is, in my opinion, the best book in the series to this point, owing in large part to its to-die-for hero. Normally, I'm not a big fan of romantic comedy, especially in paranormal romance, but Ms. Sparks really knows how to do it right. I'm able to love her b

Can a hero get any more masculine, alpha, gorgeous, loving than our kilt wearing Scot Angus MacKay? I think NOT!..He is every woman's dream. A warrior, a friend, has a sense of humour, loyalty and you can rely on him to do the right thing. I think Kerrelyn Sparks wrote the epitome of PNR hero, and as if that isn't enough she matched him with a strong, self reliant, heroine in Emma.It is about time a PNR author wrote strong characters who are true to themselves. She let our hero acknowledge our h ...more

I really like Emma. She's spunky and perfect for Angus. Good humor, tension, and action. The story flowed very smoothly, even with the additional bit with Shanna and the baby. This was an all around great read!

I enjoyed this book from Kerrelyn Sparks. I only gave it 3 stars though because although I LOVED the male love interest, Angus MacKay, I never really connected with the female love interest, Emma Wallace. And I'm not really sure why.

Angus MacKay is a centuries old vampire and the general to Roman Draganesti's security force/former army. Many centuries ago, there was a great vampire war, pitting good vampires who didn't want to hurt humans any more than necessary and bad vampires that wanted to k

This is one of my favorite series, it's just so fun to read!, I love the characters and the writing is so light and easy to read.
Once I pick one of this books up, I know it'll be gone by the end of the day.
A bunch of things happened here, but one thing in particular made me very happy: Ian's solution. I just didn't know how was the author gonna get past the 15 year-old image of him and I always wondered about it, I don't find teenager-looking guys atra

I am seriously loving these kilted vampires...and an accent always does me in. Whew. I really enjoyed reading the banter between the Emma and Angus...both characters are smart as well as kick a**. This is the third book in the Love at Stake series and I have to say they keep getting better with each addition. There was a lot of action (both butt-kicking and steamy) in this book and I was glad for it, and hope that stupid hard-headed Sean is finally maybe coming around. Anyway, I am glad that the ...more

This is my second time actually reading this book; the first time was about a year ago, and was my entrance into Kerrelyn Sparks. It's the 3rd novel in the Love At Stake series and admittedly, probably my favorite so far. I adore Angus' habit of checking under his kilt to make sure all his 'bits' are still there and in order after transporting, and the way both Angus and Emma know each other for what they are right off is appealing. I've noticed Sparks has a habit of kind of leading the charas i ...more

Very much in line with the first book in the series, but the author's writing, or the editing, or both, have improved. A decent if not spectacular paranormal/vampire romance. The leading man is adorable, the plot is weak but acceptable. The author's strength is in writing vivid characters that are quite likable, including the supporting characters. Presumably many of those supporting characters will get novels of their own at a future date, and she's done them well enough that I'm curious to see ...more

HOT!!! This book was so friggin hot. I felt every emotion in this book. Angus! Oh My. He is such a sweet guy. Didn't see that in the other books. Glad to know him more. My favorite part was when they were locked up in that silver room and his very first bite.. That scene just scorched me.. Kerrelyn. What a amazing writer you are. Every next book i pick up. Its better and better. And Ian.. Poor Ian.. but Hey No longer right?. Hehehe I am already thrilled to see him how he turns out. I bet he is h ...more

Ok, so far the best in the series. I loved Angus and Emma was a great heroine. In this book the romance between them had a much better development than in the last two, it seemed more real. I really like this series, not a fave but a really quick, fun read.

I usually pick up this series when I want to rest my brain and suspend all belief for a bit. I was pleasantly surprised by the suspense and really enjoyed Angus and Emma. Angus is a 500 year-old vampire who believes opening his heart to love, especially with a mortal, will only lead to more sorrow. Emma is a slayer set on exacting revenge for the death of her parents. When she isn't working for the Stake-Out Team, she is slaying vampires in Central Park. The Malcontents blame Roman and his crew ...more

This was my favourite book so far. I loved Angus. He was so charming and whitty. The first few lines had me laughing away...

'After four hundred and ninety-three years of teleporting from one place to another, Angus MacKay still felt an urge to peek under his kilt to ensure everything had arrived in fine working condition. There were some ares where a man, vampire or not, would hate to find himself shortchanged. He resisted though, since he wasn't alone.'
Emma was also the best heroine so far.

Book 3 in the Love at Stake series. This book focuses on Angus MacKay, approximately a 500 year old vampire, and the owner of MacKay Security and Investigation. His job: to find Casimir (the leader of the evil Malcontent vampires) and to keep the mortal vampire slayer Emma Wallace safe before she gets her fool self killed!

Emma, our heroine, is part of the CIA Stake-Out team. We met her in Vamps in the City. Her idea of kicks? To go to Central Park and kill herself some vampire, why? To avenge he

Since her parents were killed by the undead several years ago, Emma has believed the only good vampire is a dead vampire. Scottish Vampire Angus MacKay has been asked by his boss to find the vampire-slayer and stop him before a war breaks out. Angus is shocked to find out that the slayer is a human woman. He is even more shocked to find out he is attracted to her. Now he has to convince E ...more

Kerrelyn Sparks' books remind me of Lynsay Sands (Argeneau series). They are very light vampire romance. I must say that in this book the sex scenes were a little steamier than the first two.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the two main characters, Angus and Emma. Angus was your typical tall, dark and handsome Highlander and Emma was your no-nonsense CIA operative. Their cute banter and teasing made the book an enjoyable read.
The best part of the book was when they were being held captive in

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

This series is mostly based on CIA man Sean Whelan's attempts to rescue his daughter from the vampires. What he refuses to believe is that she is there willingly. All his efforts do is distract the good vampires from their war with the Malcontents (the bad guys). In this installment, vampire slayer and CIA operative, Emma Wallace gets herself into trouble with Angus McKay (one of the good guys). Angus spends most of the book trying to convince Emma to stop before the Malcontents kill her and try ...more

This book irritated me from the beginning. Angus McKay is 500 years old and he is in the beginning stage of instalove from seeing a picture! of the female lead. Emma Wallace is another member of the Stake Out (CIA team)who is out in Central Park hunting vampires. We met her in the last book. Emma first sees Angus across the park and again we have at least insta lust.

This is easily my favourite book in the whole series. I used to skip this one because I was never a fan of Angus but I'm glad that I buckled down and read it. Yes, the almost-insta love is still present but for some reason it just seemed to work in this book.

I'm trying to think of something I disliked about this book but the only thing I can come up with that where Emma's grief over losing her parents is realistic, the fact that she mentions a brother that died and then just didn't seem to have

I’m falling in love with all the characters of this series. The Love at Stake series has so many interesting characters that I want to get to know. Some have been there from the first book like Gregori, the hilarious vice president of marketing for Romatech and Ian MacPhie, the security guard who looks like he’s a teenager yet he’s hundreds of years old and Connor, another kilt wearing security guard. New characters were introduced in this book like Zoltan Czakvar, the coven master of Eas

Wonderful

I loved the story about the big kilt wearing vampire and the human who falls for him Emma

I love how all these books intertwine with each other you get to meet a character before they even get their own book so its like a long running soap that you have loved for years and hope never ends

Always looking forward to her next installment

Yet another great read!!! I really love Angus, so I was REALLY excited about reading his story, and it didn't disappoint. The balance of humour, angst, romance and action is right on target for me. I can't wait to start the next book…especially because it stars a certain sexy French Vampire ;) lol

Kerrelyn Sparks is the New York Times bestselling author of a series that mimics its sexy heroes by refusing to die. Now up to book thirteen, the Love at Stake series spreads laughter worldwide in thirteen different languages. In spite of a tendency to nibble on necks or howl at the moon, Kerrelyn’s vampire and shapeshifter heroes are still wonderfully romantic.
