description

Screw Harry Potters and Katniss Everdens, Calvin is my hero with his eternal quest of abolishing healthy food, swimming lessons, and freezing his face in his queer expression.

i don't usually read comic books. it was my brother actually that showed it to me so i read it and i thought it was hilarious. Basically, it was just different strips and cut-outs of Calvin and Hobbes' lives. this is me:
hmmm..........okay what's the point? ..........really!..........HAHAHAHA!!!........that is SO true......lol......OMG that is so mean!!!.....aww, it's finished already??? ^_^

The second collection (from 1988), this still has a few rough edges (Calvin’s a bit more sarky than usual, the design of Hobbes settles over the course of the collection) but plenty to recommend. From the transmogrifier transforming Calvin into a little tiger to the introduction - following a botched haircut by Hobbes that makes Calvin bald - of Tracer Bullet (“I’ve got eight slugs in me. One’s lead, the rest are bourbon”), from more school fun and more interplay with Susie, this rockets along....more

Calvin is not your average first grader, this much is for sure. With a mind bordering on genius and a vocabulary some adults wouldn't even understand, you'd think he'd be the top of his class. Unfortunately, the opposite is true - he just can't seem to apply himself in school. There are so many more interesting things he could be doing - attacking monsters with a baseball bat or a dart gun, sending messages to alien passersby, and running rampant with his best friend and loyal stu...more

What a companion I have found! This is the most intoxicating, relaxing, nauseating, rejuvenating, nostalgic and inspiring stuff one could ever read.

What did I get this time? Here's a sample

This explains it all!

A gift from my sister and best friend when I was sixteen, and the first step of a wonderful journey. Today almost every Calvin and Hobbes comic book ever published sits on my bookshelf, and they have stood the test of time. They're still laugh-out-loud funny, even after multiple readings. My son is now enjoying them, and I have to say, until I had him, I would never have thought any 6-year-old boy could be as precocious as Calvin. I can see why he relates!

My favourite strips in this book appear...more

I read this in one day. I loved it and laugh a bit. I ended up scaring my cat, when I did. It was a nice change to what I had been reading. It was light hearted and funny. I don't think anyone can have a problem with reading a bit of Calvin and Hobbes.

It was surprisingly inspiring and motivating for me.

I should make it a habit of reading at least one comic book type of book a month, to remember why I love to read in the first place. Comic books were my first love.

And you never forget your first...more

Yet another among the books published by Bill Watterson from the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip that I have enjoyed. My children have literally worn out these collections of C&H comics, and with good reason. C&H is a unique blend of homespun philosophy, side-splitting humor, and insight into the human (child and adult) condition. Watterson's insights into, and sly digs at, various social, familial, and other institutions of modern life are masterful.

This was the first Calvin and Hobbes book I ever read. I used to sneak reading it while my parents were in prayer group. In that dark library the characters Bill Watterson created jumped off the page and resonated with my eight year old brain in a way I had never encountered before. I've reread it many times, and every time I come back to this book I find it teaches me a new lesson. This book made me into a life long reader.

I thought that this was a very good book. It is probobley the best comic book that I have ever read! Trust me, I have read a lot of comic books. Trust me, you would love Calvin and Hobbe's books. I am glad that Bill Waterson came up with such a good plot. I am a little scared of Calvin though. He has gone a little wild about the likelyhood that a monstor realy is under his bed.

Why is it that whenever I'm feeling a little low, all I have to do is pull one of the Calvin & Hobbes books from the shelf and give it a good re-read to perk me up. I've many other "funny-books", but these are the ones that bring me most joy.
Then, a little after I am done, I start re-realizing that Watterson will probably never do any more, then I get sad again.
I'm very grateful for what I have... and I'll re-read them as many times as I need... I just wish there were more.
OK, now I'm feelin...more

Where does one begin with Calvin and Hobbes? Bill Watterson is just awesome! My ten year old cousin enjoys the simplicity of Calvin and Hobbes. As you get older you appreciate it on a different level. The subliminal messages that are so brilliantly added in the comics is so great! Watterson's imagination and ingenuity astounds me! I love him!

I absolutely love Calvin and Hobbs. I feel like it is a peek into the life of every small child who is unique. I wish I could explain how this book came to my attention but, I would probably get sued. Let's just say that the person who found it, had something in common with the title, and leave it at that. Try to draw your own conclusions.

This is the first Calvin and Hobbes book I owned and read, at around seven years old. I didn't understand all of the jokes, the the simplicity, pranks, and childish humanity I was able to detect at a young age still resonate with me. Watterson honed his style early on, and this book is a strong showing.

Okay, this one is a little better than the other Calvin and Hobbes books, I think. Though not by much. I will always like the strip in which Calvin's mother is screaming at his dad, 'It's your fault we didn't have a sweet little girl, your stupid chromosome!' Other than that, just meh.

I think that this is one of the funniest books that I have ever read. It is funny how calvin immagines how things are alive. He makes me laugh and shake my head. I wish I could spend a day with him. I would also like to get into his mind and see what he sees.
Dan
Calvin and Hobbes books are great fun and really witty humor! A childhood staple comic book for me, but even now I go back and read them and understand the humor on a different level (now that I know the meanings of some of the words!). Great books.

My review for all Calvin and Hobbes books is this:

When you need to relax and laugh, this is a great place to go. Watterson is insightful, hilarious, and very, very funny. Highly recommended.

I grew up on C&H, and I'm very glad I did.
Isaiah
This Calvin and Hobbes book was so hilarious because it had different jokes in each page and chapter that you went through it also had Calvin freaking out about his neighbor Suzie hugging Calvin's stuffed animal Hobbes
Patrick
The only competition that Bill Watterson has for best print cartoonist ever is from Charles Schulz, whose "Peanuts" lasted even longer than the ten years we enjoyed Watterson's "Calvin and Hobbes."
Norma
This book, and all Calvin and Hobbes always put a smile on my face. If I'm having a "bad" day, I just pick one of them and start reading, right away I can start to feel much better. :)

YOu guys can see my "non imaginary" friend, Brad Pitt, right?

I fucking swear he is real.

You have to fucking believe me.

How the fuck do you think TOY got started?

I love all Calvin and Hobbes material. When I read the little stories, I am reminded of my own childhood, and long for the days of imagination and play.

I love the title of this book.... though, I really don't think Spaceman Spiff would have trouble dealing with, whatever it is that's drooling.....MOMM!

Featuring some great shorts such as Calvin with the little hurt raccoon. Watterson is hitting his stride here. Nothing but brilliance to ensue.

I absolutely love Calvin and Hobbes. This is one of the best comic strips ever written. Calvin and Hobbes will make you laugh every time.

Fiction. A Calvin and Hobbes collection of daily comic strips.

Another classic collection of C&H comics. First read this in 1989.

This was the one of the very fist Calvin and Hobbes book ever given to me. I have loved them every since.
Gregory
Calvin and Hobbes is my favorite comic. I started reading it long before I understood most of it.

Bill Watterson (born William Boyd Watterson II) is an American cartoonist, and the author of the comic strip "Calvin and Hobbes". His career as a syndicated cartoonist ran from 1985 to 1995; he stopped drawing "Calvin and Hobbes" at the end of 1995 with a short statement to newspaper editors and his fans that he felt he had achieved all he could in the comic strip medium.
