3.5 Stars (rating and review for Fire and Ice only)

Every time I read one of The League books I wish there were more futuristic romance novels out there. Kenyon does a great job of bringing the creativity and action of Star Wars to the drama and romance of Titanic. And with each release, I wish there were more books in the series so that I didn’t have to wait for the next installment.

Adron, a former League assassin and the son of Nykyrian and Kiara from Born of Night, is in a living nightmare af...more

Feb 2013 Reread: I just reread Fire & Ice, and I still LOVE that story and the League series!

I really enjoyed this anthology by Sherrilyn Kenyon which had three good stories in it.

Fire & Ice

5 Stars

Of all SK's series her League series is my absolute favourite and I have loved each book so far and this novella was no different. With her trademark tortured hero, Adron who who was viciously tortured after selflessly sacrificing himself for a pregnant woman he didn't know is now badly scarred...more

I thought this was a great book to get myself out of my reading rut and it worked a treat!

Sherrilyn Kenyon's In Other Worlds contains two previously released books Dragonswan (part of the Dark-Hunter series) and Fire and Ice (part of The League series) along with a new story Knightly Dreams.

I have read Dragonswan before back in 2008 when I first got into the Dark-Hunter series. And I thought it was just ok but after re-reading it I much enjoyed it the second time around and thought it was a grea...more

I am a huge fan of ms kenyons dark hunter series and love her league series too but for some reason kept thinking that I had read this one. So glad I realised my mistake and got it as it contains a short story based on each of those series plus an extra one featuring a knight in shining armour!
Not going to ruin the stories as too many spoilers ruin shorter books but will say the first tale is a fantastic way to catch up with Nykyrians story which started in Born of Night .
The second features a K...more

Let me just say that I'm not really a big fan of anthologies. I see them a lot like eating potato chips when you're starving. They're okay while you're eating them but they leave you feeling wanting at the end. Because of this, I almost did not buy "In Other Worlds" but, having heard good things about "Dragonswan" and wanting to see what happened to Adron in The League series, I decided to give it a go. I'm certainly glad I did.

The first story in this book is "Fire & Ice" from The League. No...more

My favorite quotes from this book:
- Fire and Ice (Adron and Livia}
Adron - "I am the one who glued Zarina to the toilet seat when she was seven."
---------------------------------------
[Adron] held the towel to his nose and mouth. "I just damaged another internal organ. Who knows which one. Since they're all pretty much soup, it could be..." his voice trailed off as Theo came in with a gurney and three orderlies.
Theo shook his head, "You know, Adron, if you want to spend the night with me, ther...more

Series: Fire and Ice (League, 3.5)
Dragonswan (Dark-Hunter, 1.5; Were-Hunter, 1)

An omnibus of stories of men living in other worlds meeting the woman of their dreams.

The Stories
Fire and Ice is cute, sweet, but not up to her usual standards for her League series. A gravely crippled Assassin struggles through life as he works to survive the almost deadly injuries he received on an assignment. One night, trying to drown his pain and regrets, he encounters a gorgeous innocent who insists on going ho...more

A wonderful collection of three short stories. A great combination of romance and fantasy.

In "Fire and Ice", Livia seeks a way to escape an unwanted marriage to an elderly man her father has committed her to. Finding Adron in a bar, she is drawn to him, and offers her virginity to him. Adron was an assassin. Severely damaged while saving a pregnant woman, he has lived the last eight years without really living. Livia sees him, not the damage to his body, making him want to live.

In "Knightly Drea...more

This book contains 3 stories of romance, fantasy and magic, they are quick and fun to read.

Fire and Ice: This is part of Kenyon's League series and always it leaves you with the feeling that you wish there were more books to keep reading without having to wait. Futuristic romances between two characters both physically and mentally damages but with great hearts. They heal each other physically and mentally with their love.

Genre: Anthology of romance with a sci-fi/fantasy setting

This is an anthology of 3 novellas:

Fire and Ice –The romance between the physically damaged Adron and the abused Livia is sweet, and the pacing is good. However, as with most of Kenyon’s work it’s the universe they exist in that makes me want to read more. It’s a space-faring future, and there are aliens as well as humans inhabiting bars that are reminiscent of the Cantina on Tatooine (in Star Wars). The worlds both Livia and Adron are fr...more

I've just finished the short story Fire and Ice, having never read it before since it was originally published as an ebook. Holy CRAP! I'm always rambling on about how amazing Sherri's books are, of course, but this was a home run, a touchdown, a five star! The story was about one hundred and sixteen pages, and I was as enthralled, emotionally involved, and excited with this little story as I have been with Sherri's enormous stories! (A lot of Es in that sentence, LOL.)

Adron! Damn! What can you...more

Fire and Ice ~ 4 stars:

This is a sweet, charming story of Adron and Livia. Adron was a league assassin who was tortured, his body so destroyed that he is barely living and in extreme pain. He goes to a bar to drown his pain in alcohol when Livia shows up. She is a princess from another planet who her father is trying to marry off to an eighty plus year old creep who wants a virginal bride. Livia decides to lose her virginity and chooses Adron.

I love how tender they are with each other and how...more

this was another nice read by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
It is interesting that I realy can't like her other series (Dark and dream an were an i-don't-know-which hunters, but ok, I had have some good books there, but in summary, I cannot overstep that her first book of this hunter-series, The Fantasy Lover was such a big mistake to write -this was definitely designed for persons with single brain cell. HOW I hate that book!!).
Ok - I caught myself, so back to this anthology.

The four star rating is based on Dragonswan and Knightly Dreams.

I'm not a fan of The League series and really did not care for Fire and Ice. That's my problem and nothing to do with the story itself. It's all me.

I liked Knightly Dreams although it reminded me greatly of Fantasy Lover. There were obvious differences but the general tone and character behavior was the same. I'm curious to see if Kenyon will ever decide to expand on the writing premise/theme behind Knightly Dreams and write a nove...more

I really liked this book.

I was so glad to read about Adron, Nyrkrian/Kiara son from Born of Night, I do wish that his story was longer. He was definitely a totured character. As a feared League Assassin he gave himself up to a horrible villan to save a pregnant woman. The villan held him for over a week while he tortured Adron. Adron was found but barley worth rescuing by his family. Crippled from the inside out for 7 years. 8 years of solitude and being lonely. Then fate steps in and Livia a b...more

Fire and Ice: this short story is about Adron, one of Nykerian and Kiara's kids from the League novels. It was a very sweet story. I'm always amazed how much emotion Mrs Kenyon can put into a short story. I loved it! 5 stars :)

Knightly Dreams: I really liked the concept of this novella, though I'm not sure how it's a Dark Hunter or Were Hunter book...basically, Sparhawk is a character of a book, and he knows it. Taryn thinks she's in the real world and that books are just stories, not real world...more

I know it hasn't been published yet, but I wanted to mark it "read" to indicate I have already read the Dark-Hunter short "Dragonswan" as part of the anthology "Tapestry". I also own "Dragonswan" as a stand alone book.

Read date for "Dragonswan": 2003. Rating: 3 stars.

The "to-read" is for the "The League" story.

This review is only bases on The League story, Fire and Ice. I really like this series, the world it is set in is the big appeal. This story was one that had aspects that I really like reading about, the scarred, damaged hero, Adron embodies this.

I felt so sorry for Adron, he was doing the right thing and ended up in a situation that was almost worse than being dead. For a strong man, who depended on his body for his survival, to have his body turn on him and become his prison, there can be no w...more

Fire and Ice, League #4... Adron, formally an assassin of the League (of which his father is a commander)... exchanged himself for a pregnant woman hostage, and was tortured for 12 days, found cut up in a dumpster by his brother, who would not kill him as is the assassin's pledge - to kill one who is unable to do their job)... x number of years later, his inside organs are barely holding together, he can't use his leg without a brace, talking hurts, and he is always in pain... I was excited to get this book. It contained a couple short stories I’d been eager to read; Fire and Ice (From the League series) and Dragonswan (A prequel novella to the Dark Hunter series). I’m happy to say that I did enjoy it, although, if I was completely honest, I would have loved both stories to be longer; perhaps full length books. Even though both sets of main characters were great characters and had chemistry, everything seemed rushed, and I found it hard to completely buy their feeling...more

This book is divided into three short stories. One of them, Fire and Ice, is a story in The League books (is actually listed as 3.5 in the series order) and is about a character, Adron, that we met in Born of Fire, but saw again in Born of Ice. So I guess that’s why the title is Born of Fire AND Ice. Clever. Clever. Anyway, this is a short story, but it is packed, and I mean packed full of the stuff that makes the League series what it is, just a fun, sexy, exciting read. Okay, there’s the usual...more

My 5 star rating was specifically for the first story - Fire and Ice. I've been waiting quite a while to get my hands on Adron's story and it was even better than I expected. I absolutely love Sherrilyn Kenyon's League series! The only thing wrong with this story was that it was only 116 pages long. I think it would have been an amazing novel length story. What really has me hooked on Kenyon's writing is the way she moulds her characters and how complex they are.

This was an interesting book. I did not know that these books had been released at an earlier time.
I really enjoyed the first and third book. The first book was about Adron and Livia from the Born series by Kenyon. I love these books so much that reading about Adron was great. It was a sweet love story that actually had me tearing up. I cannot wait for the next Born (Born of Shadows)book to come out.
The second book was just silly. I did not enjoy it at all. The beginning was interesting but the...more

This book contains 3 novellas, which is a good thing because I was really disappointed in the first two. It's not that they weren't workable/believable stories, but they didn't have the same level of character development that I've come to expect from Kenyon. The first, while creating an interesting world I had not yet seen, had a plot that was too contrived to be believable. I was left wanting more, a whole lot more, and it was disappointing. The second, could have left out the romance part com...more

Only read Fire and Ice, the League novella. I would prob. rate it a 3 1/2 - 4 star simply because it was too short. Having said that, after reading Born of Ice, which was about Syn and Shahara's son, Devyn, and having a little bit of inside information regarding Adron, Nykyrian and Kiara's son and Devyn's best friend, it was nice to finally find out what had happened to Adron, and to see him get his HEA, after the tragedy that had so unfairly changed his life. Definitely a nice addition to the L...more

This was a great Kenyon collection, I wanted to read this when I finished all the dark-hunter novels but when I saw it had a short story from the league I read those first and I am glad I did, you dont need to but I think I understood Adron's character better having a bit of history on his and his family. You dont need much history on Sebastian for Dragonswan, honestly if you haven't read the dark-hunter books his character in them is extremely reclusive and you dont see him much anyway. About 3.5 out of 5

Fire and Ice - I actually bought it for the short about Adron (The League series). I kind of wanted more but it was well written for what it is.

Knightly Dreams - This one was so-so. It's not connected to either series. It kind of gives me a better handle on how writers talk of their characters being "alive" to them.

Dragonswan - From the Were-Hunter series. Short and interesting. This I definitely wish could be longer. We see so little of the dragons that something more in dept...more
