ORIGINALLY POSTED AT Fantasy Literature.

Cicely Waters, 26 year-old black-clad, green-eyed, tight-abbed, tattooed, street-fighting witch, has been summoned back to her Cascadian hometown so she can use her powers to help solve the mystery of a witch's murder and some strange disappearances. Soon Cicely finds that things are worse than she could have imagined when she learns that the Indigo Court, an old race of vampiric fae, are planning to take control of both their vampire and fae ancestors. 4.5 stars - This book is how I'd like all my Urban fantasy to read ... good storyline, sweet world, good strong characters and amazingly sizzling hot chemistry (and lots of it). I enjoy Urban Fantasy for it's action packed storylines but I cringe when it takes 3 books into a series before the romance takes off and we get any action in that department. Night Myst hit it on the nose! You get action in all departments right from the start.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this series. Cicely took some getting used to and the story started a lot more disjointedly than the usual Galenorn flow that I have come to know and love. In a nutshell. Girl destined for great things ripped from her home and dragged from placed to place by a drug addicted mother full of unrealized potential. After the death of her mother, she returns home to New Forest Washington, to find herself an unwitting struggle for power between the Blood Court and the...more

I've been a huge fan of Yasmine's Otherworld series for a few years now but have been busy and hadn't had a chance to dive into any of her other series. I won this one in a contest and I dived right in.

I really loved this book, even from the start. There's a lot of history and it was a tiny bit confusing at times trying to make sense of it all but to me that's pretty normal with any of the authors I read. Whenever I pick up a new book from a new author, it takes time for me to accumulate to the...more

3 1/2 stars.

There are interesting elements in this introduction to the Indigo Court novels. Cicely Waters is a witch who has been traveling away from her home while she matured and dealt with her afflicted mother. She has returned to find a serious threat to the comfortable town that she left including the abduction and possible murder of several of her friends and family and a horrifying change to the lover that she has yearned for while apart from him. Caught in a power struggle between the Va...more

A friend gave me this book to read so I read it. it was a fast read, kept me turning the pages. But it just wasn't as good as I hoped.

Cecily returns to her hometown in Washington. She is magic born - a witch and a wind controller. She has a cool elemental wind spirit that talks to her. Her family and friends are all magical in some way or other.

She has been called back because a powerful witch was killed violently (her throat was ripped out and her blood drained). Suspicion falls on the Crimson...more

Night Myst by Yasmine Galenorn
Paranormal Romance June 29th, 2010
4 Stars

Night Myst is a romance with strong paranormal elements, shapeshifters, and plenty of suspense.

Cicely Waters is a witch who can control the wind. Her world is disrupted when she suddenly receives a dire message. Another witch named Marta has been murdered and now Cicely has inherited her business. As a result Cicely must return to New Forest, Washington but this trip home brings back painful memories. As soon as she arrives...more

Night Myst is the first book the Indigo Court series, by Yasmine Galenorn. Yasmine Galenorn has the ability to set up a very interesting and intriguing world. I enjoyed that Night Myst was told from Cicely's point of view.

I have to say that I loved the idea of Vampirie Fae, I don't believe I have read a book with them before, and it was an interesting twist. The vampire fae was a failed experiment by the Crimson Court to enslave the fae. However the vampire fae became a separate court, the Indig...more

I had finished my last book and nothing was waiting for me at the library so I picked this up on a quick trip to the mall. Rarely do I just randomly buy a book without looking it up first and this why I guess.

I really didn't care for the book. The idea seemed terribly clever and interesting - vampiric fae? Cool! - but the execution was just dreadful.

The whole book felt like one giant cliche. And I just rolled my eyes through most of it. The parts I didn't roll my eyes at were the disgusting semi...more

I would give this book 2 1/2 stars. The beginning was absolutely painful and I almost put the book down. However, the second half of the book was incredibly entertaining.

Cicely Winters is called back to her childhood home and the only home that she ever really knew. She senses that something is wrong with her aunt and cousin and a phone call to them confirms her feeling. When she arrives, she finds her aunt missing and the town in complete disarray.

Something is stalking humans and magic-born al...more

Did I miss the latest issue of "Writer's Vogue" declaring cliffhangers as the must have new series ending. I would not have read it if I knew it would leave that many questions. The sequel "Night Veil" will be released Summer 2011. Meaning it was probably not written when Night Myst was. The book was good but not worth a year-long wait for answers. I would have waited to read it. My rating is more base on subtraction of points for annoying stuff not the writing or the plot. Both were above what...more

What I liked about the book

Characters
Cicely Waters: Main female lead through her POV. She was raised to take care of herself, street smart, self taught magical abilities and doesn't let others push her around. I like her strong female characteristics and the importance of family to her.

Grieve: Cicely's love interest. I'm still at a stand still with him, I want the next book to come out so I can learn more about him. He was a "good" guy, but he was forcefully turned to become one of the nasty Vam...more

The big draw for me was the idea of vampiric fae. I've never read that twist on the mythology before. The proverbial BA tough chick protagonist was somewhat juvenile and a bit annoying, but I thought the story had a lot of potential.
It started out strong, then slowly weakened from the middle until the end. Small inconsistencies bothered me, for example one case where the author described a character as dressing in black jeans and a black turtleneck, then shortly after described a drop of blood...more

Cicely is being called back home. After long years on the road caring for her junky mother, now dead, she could finally go home to stay. She was finally ready. Especially, she was ready to commit to her life long love, Grieve, a gorgeous fae who made her libido simmer just thinking about him after all these years. If he would have her that is after the way she had hurt him the last time she had been home.

Grieve was the least of her problems. Members of the magic born community were vanishing and...more

As my first experience with the works of Ms. Galenorn, I am thoroughly impressed with the complexities and avenues taken so eloquently within the pages of "Night Myst". Ms. Galenorn’s talent for story weaving had me flipping page, after page; devouring very word. My only disappointment be...more

This book is a brain cells killer. I will not recommend it to anyone of my acquaintance. I didn’t like any of the characters in this book. And my only feelings toward the main heroine were pity and irritation. I often caught myself on a thought, that she is a slutty, stupid and immature.
I didn’t like the style either. The language was poor and the author uses the rule of three far too often. I mean a constant repeating of the same things and phrases in hopes that the “stupid” reader will underst...more

Interesting new series from Ms Galenorn, I like the new set of characters introduced and the Vampiric Fae are fantastic -I'm definitely in 'like' with the Indigo Court even though they are the bad guys. Cicely, for all her so-called street smarts, seemed a bit empty-headed at times and was quite willing to drag her friends & family headlong into dire situations without thinking, loved Rhiannon & Peyton (even though she is only a minor character in this book), kept hoping something would...more

I am swept away by surprise when it comes to this new series. I dived into the world not having much expectations whatsoever, but the story captured me and placed me right in midst of everything that was happening.

Let's first talk about Cicely Waters. She is the main protagonist of the story and is apparently all tough chick bad ass who grew up learning how to fight on the streets (and repeats this a couple of times). I liked her, in general, when she wasn't bending over backwards begging for s...more

The entire book I kept wondering when the climax would occur. I got to the last page and could not believe it was over. Cheated, I realized the story was never intended to be more than exposition for the next book in the series. What a let down.

This is the first book in a new series by paranormal romance writer Yasmine Galenorn. Like her hit "Otherworld" series, this is set in the Seattle area and is filled with all sorts of vampires, Fae, and other paranormal beings. The ambiance of this series, however, is much darker. The Crimson Court of the vampire nation and the Indigo Court of Vampiric Fae are on the verge of war and caught in between, like the low countries between Germany and France, are the Fae of the Golden Forest. The prota...more

I stumbled across this authoress for the first time recently and I wonder how I have not seen her books sooner.
Her writing style flows well, involving the reader with the plot and making the characters seem like friends.
I would strongly recommend this book series to anyone and notice that she has written other series too, which I intend to find soon-- just a warning to those who do not like sexual content, there is some explicit scenes in the book, but not gratuitously so, as they are an essenti...more

I love the Otherworld series, but this one lacks a certain richness and buy-in from me, though I'm enjoying it well enough to continue. The elements that I particularly like - the queerness, polyamory are also not present here and I miss them. Right now the story seems to small - or too large, but doesn't quite work for me that only this one group seem to be noticing anything... I also spend a lot of time thinking that Cicely and Grieve are just a bit too overdone, I don't find them believable m...more

I really enjoyed this book, I especially like the aspect of past lives since that is my belief. Cicely is a strong woman with a bond to a wind elemental, I would say that she has an affinity with air, but this is different.

Getting into the book, you find that her and her soul-mate have been on opposite sides of the wars throughout time. Will they get it right this time? With so much in the way it is so very hard to even make a guess. The Fae, Vampiric Fae, the normal vampires, and Cicely (and fr...more

I found this enjoyable and with likable characters. The main character isn't annoying or bitchy. She doesn't whine. Cicely Waters does what needs doing. When she wants to rescue her lover, she doesn't place everyone in danger by doing so when it is a lost cause and bringing him with them would put them all at even greater risk. I like Cicely a lot and makes me want to continue on with her story.

The world depicted in this book is an interesting one and I feel that the author worked within the con...more

“And she arose from her deathbed in a gossamer gown, with eyes the color of starlight and hair as black as the night. And those who were her captors trembled, for the scent of death and madness emanated from her soul, and yet she was not dead. She moved like the spiders that creep in the treetops, and none could look away.
Taking her first captor in hand, she fed deep and ravenous. And so it was that Myst, Queen of the Indigo Court, was born from the blood of the dead.”
