The Bar Code Rebellion, by Suzanne Weyn, is the second book about seventeen-year-old Kayla Marie Reed and the world she lives in. In 2025, when the novel takes place, everyone, at the age of seventeen, is required to be tattooed with a bar code. The bar code is what people use for everything, from paying for bus fare to getting a job. In the first book about this world, The Bar Code Tattoo, Kayla's neighbor, the now-famous Gene Drake, was killed in a struggle because he had discovered something More...

This is the first book from Suzanne Weyn that I think I have ever read. While at some points the writing "sounded" a little stumbling, I still really enjoyed the book overall.

I was not lost by not reading the first book in the series first, though I will readily admit that I wish I had. I generally do prefer series in order but this one came first from my hold list at my library, and at my core I am an impatient being, especially when it comes to books.
After I began More...

This was the closing book to the Bar Code Tattoo duology by Suzanne Weyn. It was a great book, the action was non-stop and so much story was put into this little book.

Kayla is set to make the journey to Washington DC in order to join the protest against mandatory bar code tattooing. Things get confusing though when she starts showing up on TV as an advocate for the bar code. Who is this girl on TV? As Kayla's journey continues she begins to find out things that completely change the wa More...

The year is 2025, and Kayla Reed is a seventeen-year-old outlaw, one of a faction of US citizens refusing to be tattooed with a bar code containing genetic information. Kayla and her cohort are being hunted down by Global-1, the corporation that the government has contracted to run everything from the police force to the post office, and also the corporation that designed and currently manages the barcode tattoo program. When Kayla connects with another group of rebels after a traumatic march on More...

Kayla is back. A march on Washington turns into a disaster but Kayla manages to escape. On the run and not knowing who she can trust Kayla is beset by visions of other Kaylas. One seems to be a spokesperson on television saying how wonderful the tattoo is. Kayla is sure it is a doctored image of herself. It is getting harder and harder to survive without bar codes but Kayla meets many who are against the bar codes. In this way Kayla gets involved with a growing network of resistance that is acti More...

I originally had the rating as 2 stars because I wanted to give props to the good idea behind the barcode but it really was horribly written. Among the many things that bugged me here is a short list:
~What do you know, every character ever introduced I will run into again at least once since the US really is quite small
~Kayla see, Kayla lOoOoVe, true deep love, by the way I'm seventeen but I know I will be with this person for the rest of my life
~It's called style and sounding lik More...

Although I really enjoyed the first book in this series, The Bar Code Tattoo, I found the second book lacked it's originality. This book just took things too far & crazy. The secrets that Kayla is supposed to find out aren't very secret or very hard to find out & don't seem to have a whole bunch to do with the plot line other than to add some crazy into the mix. Kayla spends the whole first book learning how to do all this amazing stuff with her mind, which she then seems to forget she can do More...

This continued the story that was started in the first book. I liked that it picked up where it left off instead of starting several years later or something. It seems like a small thing, but I often dislike when books do that.

The characters discover more of the bar code tat conspiracy and continue to fight it. Their actions and discoveries are interesting, and I like the new characters. The only thing that bothered me about this book was how many things seemed to happen a bit too co More...

I read this book in one day, albeit one on which I had little else to do. It was a quick read, and probably better than the first, since I didn't hate it until the last 35 pages. Up until then, it reminded me greatly of a book/movie I loved when I was a kid called Anna to the Infinite Power; same idea but not same purpose. (Yeah, that's probably a spoiler, if you now about Anna.) The end was really flimsy, though, and seemed truly rushed without reasoning. It could have improved with a litt More...

This is the second installment of this series - and from the ending of the book, clearly the last - following The Bar Code Tattoo which I read late in 2011. As I think I mentioned then, Suzanne Weyn creates compelling characters and tells a good story, but she isn't a particularly graceful or insightful or stylish writer. Her craft is weak, but her stories and characters are strong, which brought me on to this, the second book.

Conspiracies in this book run high, almost to a point whe More...

This is the second book in the Bar Code Series by Suzanne Weyn, YA books my daughter Arenne is reading. I wavered between three and four stars on this, I like the storyline, but sometimes feel it almost was rushed, and had a sort of mass produced feel to them. I find it similar to the Left Behind series for kids, they are good books, good stories, just something about them they doesn't quite move into great book territory for me. BUT, I did like it and read it in a day, and recommend them for yo More...

This book really made me think about the kind of things that could happen in the future and new advances that might be made. I thought this book was very interesting. I like it because their is lots of action, and the “sci-fi” stuff is exciting. It had me wondering through the whole thing. There are side mysteries along with the main plot, and it’s not until the end that all of them wrap up. This kept me asking questions and making predictions a lot. I would recommend it to others, but you migh More...

This book was recommended to me by my dad; he says because I like the conspiracies. Which is true, but I find myself rating both Bar Code Tattoo and Bar Code Rebellion low ratings. Perhaps it's because of the lack of character definition. Otherwise, just rating it by the plot or ideas, it would be four/five star, but . . . I rate it by enjoyment, cleverness, and originality. Frankly, this series doesn't meet my standards for four/five star-rated books.

Man, this is one suck-ish review. This More...

Kayla is continuing her fight against getting the bar code tatooed to her wrist. She sees billboards with her face telling the nation that her life is so much better and complete since she now has the bar code--who is that person? I am impressed that this part two of the story the author has new developments and are not necessarily predicted but yet gives you a beginning and an end.

OMG! this was such a GREAT book! I loved every minute of it! I just finished! I am very satisfied with the ending. I am so happy she stayed loyal to Mfumbe rather than go with Jack. Also glad she found KM-6 and took her in! I was so worried about Mfumbe in the end but thank god for KM-6 I mean Karen! If I was there i would so vote for Dave Young lol! Its so great that the tattoo is no longer required!

I actually liked this book better than the first one. I really like the premise of the book - it is well written for a teen book. I would love to see how an adult author or Stephen King would flesh out the details and the meat of the story. There are a few points that are very unrealistic. Well, I guess the whole thing is unrealistic, but the flying sling thing is what takes it out of the realm of possibility. I would strongly recommend to teen readers though.

I thought that this book was really good! The setting is in the future and its about bar codes and the author believes that in the future everybody will have an electronic bar code that can track them down any time they want to and they have to get this bar code when they turn 17 and if they dont get it they basically can't get anything cause it hold there credit card in the chip and nobody gives them a job with out having it and the bar code can cause many dieses and illnesses thats what the bo More...

The sequel to Bar Code Tattoo. Kayla travels west and discovers the more secrets behind Global-1. Resolved ending means no further volumes. A lot gets crammed in to this short yet exciting book, which may have worked better if the title was divided into two, creating a trilogy. Still, fast and exciting, good for reluctant readers. What would you do if someone tried to put a bar code on your wrist that had more than just your name?

Do you think they would have a correct justification?

Right now people are advertizing GPS for children, so you can tell if there lost. Is that alrightt? Who knows?

I think this book is a futuristic type of book, although it is a bit slow paced.

This book was more exciting than The Bar Code Tattoo. It was filled with action and suspense as you finally learn about Kayla's visions. It's kind of creepy to think that companies would manipulate people's genes and kill them all for world domination. This book was really good. It used a lot of realistic ideas, just amplified.

this book is pretty, not as good as the first one, but I still love it :) though it still has the weird pychic thing, and something even weirder. They had an awesome plot, but for some reason, Suzanne had to make everything super weird by adding this clone thing. but except for that little bit of the book, everything else is awesome! :D

Though the ending comes way too fast, this is a fitting conclusion to the two book series. If you enjoyed 'The Bar Code Tattoo', you'll enjoy this one as well. There are many of the same characters, much of the same issues, and the same and new science. It does well concluding the story began in the first volume.

Wow. This book sucked. A lot. At least it gave some closure to the story, but the introduction of too many characters too quickly was terrible. The first book was actually believable, but this one not so much. Far too far-fetched if you ask me, and even if you don't. Oh well. You can't win them all. :P
