Recently divorced and made redundant from his job, Julian Crosby needs a break from reality. That’s why he’s gone to Hawaii…

If his personal circumstances had been different—if he were simply on a two-week vacation in Maui with his now former wife—then he surely would have laughed and said “no” to the outrageous offer from the funny-looking Hawaiian wearing a loud tropical...more

I won this book from the Member Giveaways on Library Thing.

This book was very interesting and original. It is a cross between historical fiction and the paranormal.

At first, I didn't know how the two separate stories at the beginning of the book were tied together; Amelia Earhart and Julian Crosby were two characters from two different eras. Obviously, Amelia Earhart's story is set in the past, and Julian Crosby's story is set in present day. Their worlds collide in this book.

Julian Crosby is a...more

In this award-winning novel, a weekend sailor shipwrecked in the South Seas eventually discovers the island's only other human inhabitant—a woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to 1930s lost flying ace Amelia Earhart.
Summary: The scenes shift between a newly minted sailor in Hawaii and the famous Amelia Earhart's cross-pacific journey for the first half of the book. After closely following her adventure across south-east Asia, Britain and ot...more

I looked at the cover to this book and then read the description and then put it away. I recently pulled it back out and decided to give it a go. Honestly? I thought I'd get through the first chapter or two and toss it. Man, I read it nearly one sitting! This was absolutely fabulous! It's more of a historical fiction, but there are two parallel stories going and they meet... I can't say more without giving it away, but I hope the author will rewrite the description as it doesn't do it justice at...more

This book is really hard to describe without giving anything away. It's a lovely story of a Julian who is recently divorced, his child is grown and he has been pushed out of his job. So he goes to stay at a friend's condo in Hawaii. While there he purchases a boat and ends up shipwrecked.

The second part of the story involves Amelia Earhart and her around the world trip that ended in her being missing. Through the story both end up on a magical island of sorts.

Calico Pennants is really interestin...more

The book is unusual with Julian Crosby in the present day who is looking to get away after he loses his job and his divorce by going to Hawaii where he buys a boat from a strange character. He also inherits the parrot from a friend of a friend who is moving to California. When Julian takes the boat out for a spin he gets stranded on an island where he meets a woman named Amie that he starts a relationship with until the two of them become separated and Julian figures out a way to get back to the...more
