This is a short, informative book about penguins, designed for young school-age children. The narrative is interesting and the text is paired with many colorful photographs. Our youngest brought this book home from her second grade class to practice her reading and comprehension of nonfiction material.
While the scientific material presented isn't all that new to our girls, the narrative was short and interesting. Our girls really liked the riddles and the interesting facts that are included in s...more

The illustrations in this book are the real thing. When you look at the pictures they look so real it makes it easy to understand the text. Even in the back of the book where the glossary is the words have pictures attached to show the meaning of the word through a picture. This is a great book for first or second grade reader. It has a lot of valuable information, but great detailed pictures to help the reader understand the material. Throughout the book there are question and answer sections t...more
This book is rated level two, which is reading independently. This is fantastic educational book with lots of pictures, questions and answers, diagrams/maps, and new vocabulary. New words are defined on the page it appears as well as in the glossary in back. It talks about mating and chicks, feeding, location, penguin anatomy, and shows the difference types of penguins with their heights and pictures to compare.
I believe it's a Reading Level 2. Pretty simple book but also very educational. I learned things about Penguins that I didn't know before and it made me want to watch more on Penguins. No exact story, but filled with fun facts about penguins- all different kinds of Penguins. Very good educational book for kids. The boy I read it to liked it too and decided which Penguin is his favorite.
A wealth of facts and information about penguins accompanied by beautiful, expert photographs.
