This is book 10 of the Cirque Du Freak series. In this book Harkat, a Little Person created by a dead soul by Mr. Tiny, is trying to figuire out who he really is. He protected Darren in all his adventures no its Harkat's turn to have one. Mr. Tiny visits the Cirque Du Freak taking Harkat with him to find his real soul. Darren jumps in with Harkat when he was not supposed to but Mr. Tiny allows it anyways. Mr. Tiny sent Harkat and Darren to a harsh desert. After enduring a very long journey thru ...more

This book counted as two books.

Darren and Harkat are on one of their biggest missions yet. For Harkat to discover who he used to be they have to go on a deadly quest. They go to a place where you might as well be asking for danger. Is this weird place another world, another dimension, Earth in the past? Will Darren and Harkat survive this terrifying journey?

This book wasn't like the others. It had more mystery and cliff hangers to it. almost as if Darren Shan the author has grown. Personally

book 10:
I can't believe the books actually got better..
Let me start of with the reason I'm reading this saga, while absolutely hating it. when I was around 12 I saw the first book of the saga of Darren Shan in my school library. Obsessed with fantasy as I was, I decided to give it a try. In my 12-year old mind the first book was absolutely amazing, and i couldn't wait for the next one. Sadly, my town's library only had the last 3 books out of a 12 books long saga. I wasn't really a picky reader,

I personally liked.....no loved the book. In the 11th book of the series Darren Shan really showed off his ability to keep readers on the edge of their seats. He uses tension and excitement around every corner and uses some gruesome imagery and foreshadowing.

Darren and Harkat are the two main characters and seem to come closer somehow during their latest adventure traveling to a barren waste land that might be the future of Earth depending on the outcome of the war of the scars. Darren and Har

This book answers numerous questions whilst also throwing many more out there to be answered in the final two books.

The main purpose of this book is to help us get answers as to who Harkat really is. Taking place in an unknown location (until later in the book) the characters work through tasks to find out more about Harkat. Whilst it is the longest book in the series it does address many things, giving the reader numerous answers to questions that have been asked in the past.

Darren Shan and Harkat Mulds, the mysterious little person, are sent on a quest to discover who Harkat was in his previous life, but the quest they are sent on was not what they expected.
“Lake of Souls” was an interesting book that made itself different from the other ones, taking place in a land previously unknown to Darren and Harkat, or any of the main characters. In this new land, the author has nothing holding him back from letting his imagination go wild, and the book is filled with all

Sadly, I cannot continue with this series. It has just gone on for too long and has lost my interest.

After the devastating events at the end of book 9 I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. I knew a huge gap would be left by the fallen and I wasn't sure how it would move forward without him.
But Darren is our storyteller and he manages to spin his tale and make everything work. Although I still deeply missed our fallen comrade.
This book mainly focuses on Darren and Harkat, it is time for Harkat to discover the truth about his past and journey through barren lands, dark tunnels, big lakes

The Lake of Souls takes place right after Killers of the Dawn, with Mr. Crepsley dead and Steve's revelation that he is the Lord of the Vampaneze. Darren is unable to cry. He feels numb, but with the help of the bearded lady, Truska, he eventually does so. Mr. Tiny then appears and tells Harkat that if he wants his nightmares (which have returned) to stop, he must walk through a portal that Mr. Tiny makes. Harkat refuses to let Darren go with him. It’s been about two years since I read the last Cirque du Freak book, so some of the details of previous books are kind of fuzzy. But judging by the reviews I gave them at the time, it seems that despite a few problems, I’ve enjoyed the series as a whole.

While other installments had some filler and/or unnecessary plot points, The Lake of Souls felt almost entirely unnecessary to the overall plot of Cirque du Freak. It was kind of interesting to find out who Harkat Mulds was in his former life,

This one was pretty good. Harkat just gets better and better with each book, and who he was in life happens to be one of my favorite characters. I'm getting really annoyed with Desmond Tiny, though. :/ It's a good thing Shan isn't afraid to kill off his characters, because I'm getting to the point where I want Tiny to freakin' die. Also, I'm not too sure about this book's ending. I mean, it makes sense, considering all the stuff that's been going on, but eh. Is there anything Tiny CAN'T do? Oy. ...more

About the Book:
Shan takes a step back from the War of Scars and focuses on a character that we all have come to know and love: Harkat Mulds. Harkat's nightmares have returned, and Mr. Tiny shows up to transport Darren and the Little Person to another world so that the latter can figure out who he was in his past life.

Review:
Well, this book has definitely taken a different path from the rest of the series, and I must admit I very much enjoyed it. It was like a nice vacation, only not so relaxing.

The only reason I am not giving this five stars is...well, I don't particularly know myself. It was an amazing entry to the series. Not as good as 'The Vampire Prince', though. That was my favorite.
Darren Shan is one of my favorite authors because of this series. I saw a book at the bookstore yesterday and, heh, his name caught my eye.

This is the tenth installment in the Cirque Du Freak series. I picked this book mainly because it took you away from the main conflict in the story and sent the main characters into a chaotic world which where humans became ants, and dragons became humans. To my surprise, that world was the future. I absolutely loved how the riddles to get to the Lake of Souls came together, such as the teeth with letters scratched on to them, the liquid bubbles that made bombs, and how Harkat found out that he ...more

Wow! This is another great book by the amazing...... Darren Shan! Harkat and Darren are sent out to find who Harkat used to be. Harkat is a little person made by Mr. Tiny. He makes them out of the leftovers of people's body's. I had definitely guessed he had been a vampire but I didn't expect him to be........ Kurds Smahlt! I was just thinking "How could that have happened if Harkat was born before Kurda died?" Then Mr. Tiny told Darren he went into the future took Kurda's body and replaced it w ...more

The dead are waiting...

Going into The Lake of Souls, and following the point I made in my review of the previous book, I was interested in how - SPOILER ALERT - Larten's death would affect the world and its characters. By the blurb we see that this entry focuses more on Harkat, and I was equally excited about one of my favourite characters - who in recent entries has been more supportive in role - getting critical attention. And both are pulled off brilliantly. The Lake of Souls does take a sepa

I started reading the Cirque de Freak series last year and stopped on the 9th volume, I continued this year by finishing the 10th volume, which is "Cirque de Freak: Lake of Souls" by Darren Shan. Like the author's name, the protagonist, Darren Shan is still at grief for the death of his mentor/father figure that taught everything he needed to be to become a vampire. Even at the death of his beloved friend, his adventures won't be at ease while war is at abrupt between the vampires and vampaneze. ...more
