CIA operative Mitch Rapp follows a trail of contract killers leading directly to the heart of our nation's capital in New York Times bestselling author Vince Flynn's eighth explosive thriller.

It's a gorgeous autumn day in Georgetown. The Democratic candidates for president and vice president of the United States are dutifully glad-handing voters and the media outside a gra...more

The nation is thrown into turmoil when Presidential candidate Josh Alexander's motorcade is ambushed and the car is rocked by a car bomb killing Alexander's wife and many others. On the surface it appears to be the work of jihads terrorists. The FBI and CIA are hot on the case. The CIA director is presented with classified information pointing to some of the most powerful players in Washington. Mitch Rapp is the only man reckless enough to get down to the truth. His mission leads him eventually...more

My friend handed me two Vince Flynn books a year and a half ago, saying that I'd like them. I stared at the plot descriptions skeptically, wondering how my friend could have confused me for an action book reader. The closest I had come before was Dan Brown, and I hadn't really liked the experience. So when I finally started Act of Treason, I only expected to read a hundred pages and then apologetically return them to the friend, telling her that they weren't my thing. But then I couldn't stop re...more

Political thriller starring rogue CIA operative Mitch Rapp. About every ten trips cross-country, so about every 3-4 months, I have to buy something in the airport bookstore because I ran out of book on my way out. Usually Jeffery Deaver or James Patterson has written something new by that point, so I just figure out what Lincoln Rhyme or Alex Cross is up to in their ever more convolutedly-plotted but thinly-written respective series. But alas! This time Lincoln Rhyme cost a cool 27 bucks in hard...more

Good, well-paced action read, but reads like a superhero comic book.
Action sequences are interrupted by unnecessary explanations of the hero's extraordinary training/experience and simple minded presentations of today's global political problems suitable for a radio talk show. It also had an anticlimactic climax.
The author seems to think Cyprus is part of Greece. The ethnic Greeks dominate half of Cyprus but it is an independant country. In fact it's now part of the EU. The author has the Greek...more

I enjoy reading a thriller once in a while and have wanted to give Vince Flynn a shot, mainly because he is from my hometown in Minnesota. "Act of Treason" turned out to be a good choice for this genre. There's no question that Flynn has done his homework. As I was reading "Act of Treason" I felt that I was getting a genuine sneak peak into the U.S. intel community and the tricky business they face daily -- something which fascinates me. Flynn's writing style remains true to this particular clas...more

We open here with a shattering assassination attempt. Assumed to be the actions of terrorists when Irene Kennedy "looks into things" the pillars of the government and indeed the basis of a lot of assumptions are shaken.

Who will Kennedy, Director of the CIA turn to?

Guess.

Mitch Rapp again thrown into harms way and handed a hot potato no one should have to handle does what's needed. This novel I didn't find as "memorable" as some of the other Flynn works I've read. We have an ending that leaves som...more

In my opinion, this should have been the first book in the Rapp series to be made into a movie; but nope, they chose Consent to Kill! Oh, well, what do movie directors and producers know anyway?!

What would happen if a bomb wiped out a Presidential candidates spouse? He would win the seat by the sympathy vote alone.

What would happen if one of the Secret Service Guards felt that something was wrong, and either the explosion that claimed the President elect's wife should have claimed his instead....more

If I was condensing a review of this book into a bumper-sticker, it would be 'Rapp Is RAD.'

Mitch Rapp is my new favorite CIA 'bad hombre,' replacing John Clark and faithful sidekick/Son-in-Law Ding Chavez. Those guys occasionally feel remorse when dispatching America's enemies, whereas Rapp shoots first, shoots often and the only question he asks afterwards is '...next target?'

This is even more Machiavellian than your standard foreign terrorists target Americans story. This curveball on the usua...more

CIA assassin Mitch Rapp is assigned to find those responsible for the car-bombing deaths -- perhaps this isn't actually treason, BTW, but it's certainly mass murder and well worth Rapp's attention -- of a presidential candidate's wife and numerous other innocent victims. (Even Chuck Norris should be worried if Rapp is assigned to find him.) Unfortunately for the perp, although he's pretty competent, he's unaware that Rapp is closing in. In the course of the hunt, Rapp finds that the stakes are...more

Another in the "Mitch Rapp" series of thrillers. In this one, a terrorist sets off a bomb in the motorcade of a candidate for President in the middle of an election campaign. The bomb kills the candidate's wife and a Secret Service officer. Mitch is given the assignment of hunting down the killer, who is a professional assassin from Cyprus. Rapp captures the killer just as he is about to be killed by some Russian mafia types, and brings him back to the US, along with one of his almost-killers. P...more

If it is Mitch Rapp, it has to be good. Definitely not the best of the series, but still a fun read as Vince fights bureaucracy and saves the world. I like the underlying thread of the stories where to actually get anything done in the real world, the political manipulation behind the scenes requires as much skill and adroitness as confronting the physical dangers in the real world. THis one finds Mitch finding the terrorist who murders a presidential canditate's wife and body guard. Mitch finds...more

My boss turned me onto this author. I love the books. They're all about clandestine, CIA, spy-type fun stuff. There's not much more I have to say. If you're a guy, you're going to love these books. The main character is one cool, tough spy. The author does a great job of building the story and fill you in on the technical things without trying to oversell his grand knowledge of the topic - like some authors do. The story moves at a great pace and you feel like it has a great close. Give one a sh...more

The Act of Treason by Vince Flynn is a classical CIA type mystery by Vince Flynn. In the begining of the story, the President elect's wife is killed in a bomb that was meant for him. After the attack, Agent Rapp and many other spies from the CIA and FBI work together to find the person or people responsivle for the killing of the soon-to-be first lady. When the undercover mission takes Agent Rapp all the way to Cyprus then Greece to find the killer, the CIA find out he is a hired assasin. Islami...more

This story is about a detective,Mitch Rapp, who tries to apprehend the people who were responsible for the bombing of the limousine which killed the elect-president's wife Mrs Alexander. Kennedy, chief of detective agents, helps Rapp throughout the end. Dumond,Coleman and Brooks,Rapps assistants, also helped him out. There were many problems when Rapp handled this case, but he solved them in ease and succeeded in the end.

My favorite character in this story is Kennedy. She is a calm and a relaxed pe...more

Tom Clancys Jack Ryan was great, but he immersed you in techno babble... John LeCarre gave you insight into the spy game, and Robert Ludlum made you a Jason Bourne fan, but now I am infatuated with Mitch Rapp, Vince Flynns man in the CIA. Forget about how the damn thing works, just get on the damn roller coaster and hang on... I have been on a drunken Flynn stupor for two days and finished Act of Treason and his folluw up novel.... Love it! Warning if you pick it up you wont put it down until yo...more

Wow, what a blast! This was definitely the best thriller I've read to date. There isn't a dull moment at all throughout this entire book. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and was written masterfully. Vince Flynn shows a knowledge and expertise about every subject covered, from international relations to politics, to weapons and martial arts combat techniques. The character relationships are deep and complex, and the dialogue is probably better than just about any other author I've read.

Vince Flynn astounds again. This book is fantastic. When a bomb explodes in Georgetown the whole future of the United States is shaken up. Mitch Rapp investigates into the attempt and comes up with some interesting leads. One of the leads takes Rapp across the globe to "tie up some loose ends". The end is shocking and makes you think of politics in a completely different way. Everyone who enjoys a good political thriller will love this book. I reccomend this and all the other Mitch Rapp books to...more

I liked this one more than several of the others. A different spin -- much lower body count, much higher political intrigue. Mitch is still in the middle of things, but several other characters got plenty of time. I have a much better feel for the beginning of the next book which I read a couple years back.

* Couldn't finish
** I had nothing else to do
*** Passed the time, would be **** for genre / author fans
**** Everyone could enjoy this book

Vince Flynn's thrillers are as good as it gets in the genre with the possible exception of Barry Eisler's John Rain series. They are neither realistic nor believable but they sure do entertain. I read this one in two days. I didn't even have time to put on my "currently reading" list.

Mitch Rapp, the protagonist in all of Flynn's novels is a very flawed human being who is also very good at what he does, finding and eliminating enemies of the U.S. He works for the CIA but as most characters in the...more

Mitch Rapp delivers again! Great plot - something different than the usual (adding anything might be a spoiler). An excellent end in the last few pages - didn't see that coming. Removed one star because sometimes, there is a little too much description - clothes, ambience etc.. Some folks might like that, but my opinion is that it can be edited out with no loss. But that's my personal preference.

All in all, a great read! Finished it in three days, while I usually take weeks. Speaks volumes, righ...more

I love these books! Some girls read trashy romance for fluff but I could care less about those. THIS is what I read for fun and this was a great one. The storyline is intriguing and I love the ending. Already bought the next one on my Kindle and will start it tonight.

I don't want to give anything away. This might be one of the least technical of the Mitch Rapp books, but it still is full of all the detail that Vince Flynn is so great at so it's very easy to place yourself within the story and vi...more

I had to do a little equation to figure out what page I am actually on because my kindle only tells me percentages. But i did figure it out that i was on 362.88, so I rounded up. But anyways, this book is very, very good. I may have just found a series I want to read, and that series is the Mitch Rapp series. Mitch is a CIA operative who is part of the Clandestine Service. So he is basically a spy. A very good spy. This book is not the first in the series though, so I will have to go back and re...more

This Mitch Rapp novel has the author diving into some political intrigue when a presidential candidate’s caravan is suddenly attacked shortly before the election date, sweeping him into office. At first no one thinks twice about the official story, but later on things start to get more interesting as important information surfaces… Mitch Rapp again plays a huge role in rooting out the bad guys and bringing them to justice, sticking it to the too-PC political appointees in the meantime.

My first Mitch Rapp book and this is definitely the kind of story I enjoy. Mitch Rapp is a CIA operative - the best out there. A massive explosion hits the motorcade of the Democratic canditates for president and vice-president. Mitch Rapp is sent into action to find the perpetrators. The action is non-stop and the story takes Mitch around the world and to a startling conclusion. Highly recommended for suspense/thriller addicts and fans of stories about CIA covert ops. Vince Flynn knows how to k...more

This is the 2nd book I've read by Vince Flynn & I'm really enjoying his books so far. The main character, Mitch Rapp, is a CIA Agent & a man's man. Flynn's take on politics & covert operations is very interesting! I've moved on to the next book involving Mitch Rapp & it gave an epilogue from this book in the first chapter!

I'm sure I will continue to enjoy Flynn's books since they do an excellent job of imitating our political world as we know it now!

After the two epic stories that preceded this entry in the Mitch Rapp series, "Act of Treason" was a nice change of pace. Though it centers on a rather monumental attack on an American politician, this is still a "smaller" story, both in scope and number of pages. It's as brisk a read as Flynn's produced to this point, and explores some fun new parts of Rapp's skill set. Notably, in this novel Rapp acts more like a detective than he has in previous installments, deciphering clues and piecing tog...more

Towards the beginning of the fall off of my love for all things Flynn. Still a great storyteller and a great read, but the books seem to start being a little formulaic. Bad guys plans partially revealed, Mitch Rapp does whatever it takes, Bad guys lose in the end, in a very painful way. Always emotionally and thought provoking, but starting to fall off with the death of a main character, which leads to some serious soul-searching.
Jacqueline
I like Vince Flynn, he chooses interesting, political subject that are timely. His books need editing. There are some glaring mistakes that should have been fixed by the editor. He uses banal expression that shock you. They are so unexpected. He needs to tighten his writing. The subject and the story line make up for his flaws. He seems to do great research and knowledge of the subjects he addresses.
