Finally, after seven books, Stephanie has fornicated with Batman, aka, Ranger. Major kudos go to Janet Evanovich for making my stomach flip without a whole lot of information. I've never even seen this Ranger, or Joe Morelli for that matter, and yet all I have to do is read a line and somehow they can send heat straight to my doodah, Jesus. I have no doubt that men everywhere would give their right arm for such a skill. The plots remain rather over the top, but I have come to find the ridiculous...more
You know what this series is like? It's Casualty. Each episode has a different story or two related to the job, and sometimes those caught up in it have some sort of connection with one of the regulars, but meanwhile there's a soap-opera plot which depends more on the personalities and out-of-work life of the main characters. A slightly new tale, a familiar formula and the latest status updates from people you've come to care for. OK, so this is bond enforcement in New Jersey, not A&E in Hol...more

Some dastardly doer named Eddie Abruzzi finally forces Stephanie Plum to have sex with Ranger. There, I’ve said it. Not really a spoiler. If you have been reading this series, you knew it was going to happen eventually. I have to hand it to Janet Evanovich—she really knows how to build her wispy writing to a satisfying climax. (Even though this particular orgasm took seven novels to achieve.) Part of the foreplay involves a new character with the great last name of Kloughn (pronounced ‘clown’) a...more
I am giving this book 5 Stars solely on the grounds that it was beyond hilarious. Never in my life I have read anything so ridiculously funny!
Every character, every situation was so full of rollicking stupidity that it made me burst out laughing. The mystery in this book was okay, I didn't really care much about it because in this installment we had an abundance of entertaining side kicks.
Albert Klough's description of looking like a Pillsbury Doughboy made me laugh lout loud EVERY TIME! xD

In Hard Eight, it begins with Stephanie feeling a little in limbo. She likes her job, generally speaking. However she is getting tired of her tendency to be stalked by crazy people or getting shot at. Both of which happen once again in her latest case. Her neighbor Mabel comes to her for help. Mabel's grandaughter Evelyn and her daughter Annie are on the run from Eveyln's exhusband. Due to a custody-bond agreement where Mabel put her house up for collateral, her house is now potentially going to...more
In this book, bounty-hunter Stephanie gets a couple two-bit FTAs (failure to appear) to get back to court. She fails miserably a couple times and rewards herself with doughnuts. While juggling lusty feelings for both Ranger and Morelli, she gets an unwanted sidekick tagging along. After getting yet another car destroyed, her neighborhood cops show up to laugh at her. She goes to have dinner with her protective mother and smack-talking grandma, while her father rolls his eyes and quietly eats his...more
Why-oh-why didn't Janet go into a little more detail about Steph's 'escapade' with Ranger? Darnit, I wanted more info than that! LOL! That's okay. He's still just as hot as ever. I enjoyed the story, but it still seems strange, the situation between Joe and Steph. Why is it that he can't accept wholely who Steph is and what she does for a living? Would he feel the same if she was a cop? If you ask me, the attitude is a selfish one, and he's really starting to piss me off. Wonder what the next st...more

The menace is more personal for Trenton's favorite bounty hunter and the energy more manic in this latest installment. As a favor to her mother's next-door neighbor, Mabel Markowitz, Stephanie agrees to check up on the lady's granddaughter, Evelyn Soder, who has suddenly taken off with her little girl, Annie, leaving behind a child custody bond against Mabel's house. The son-in-law is a bad guy who lost his bar to Eddie Abruzzi, a very nasty character who owns evelyn's building. Soon someone in...more
Has anybody ever went missing in your life? If they have, then you know how it feels to want them back. So, you most likly set out on an adventure to find that person. In Janet Evanovich's "Hard Eight" that's what it's like. Bounty hunter, Stephanie Plum sets out to find a mom and a missing child. But, are they really missing or did the mom just up and leave to escape her life and ex-husband?

Although this series has become so predictable, I can't stop reading! I want to know who Stephanie ends up with and what she's going to decide between the men in her life. I shouldn't want to know or care, but the way Evanovich weaves her sorry love life together, you can't help but root for love for this crazy chick. Haha. I enjoyed this novel. So far Grandma Mazur is still my favorite character. From the first novel to this one, she's gotten more wily but funnier. This is definitely a car cras...more
Stephanie Plum has a couple difficult cases in her hands: FTA Andy Bender is playing hard to catch and making her lose an embarrassing number of handcuffs; but her biggest case is a mother and daughter on the run. Stephanie tries to help her parents' neighbour since the neighbour's daughter and granddaughter are missing, and her ex-son in law is not the nicest man on Earth. Unfortunately Stephanie runs into deeper trouble when the case is connected to the horrible Eddie Abruzzi and his crazy war...more

Snakes, mutant spiders, couch cooties...oh boy! Lots of scary kind of stuff happens in Hard Eight. Plus, early in the book, Stephanie is thinking, "I work with a mysterious bounty hunter guy who turns me to jelly and makes sexual innuendos and never follows through. And I'm in the off-again phase of an off-again-on-again relationship with a cop guy I think I might want to marry...someday, but not now. That's my love life." Given some time, it could all change.

Maybe you could get your friend Ranger to help her. That might be better anyway, on account of he's hot. I wouldn't mind having him hang around the neighborhood.

We are back with more Stephanie Plum action and this time Stephanie is on the lookout for her mother's next door neighbour Mabel's daughter and granddaughter Evelyn and Annie. It seems that there is a new type of bail bonds in New Jersey - Custody Bonds and Evelyn is in violation of hers. It would have been an easy task but Evelyn's ex-husband Soder has several business acquaintances that aren't very friendly with Stephanie. From Abruzzi , who we met in Book #1 - he was Benito Ramirez's agent ,...more
I know a lot of people who say that they loved the feeling of having finished a really good book. I think that's bull-crap. For me, I never want a really good book to end. That is exactly how I felt after reading Hard Eight. I remember getting to the last page and my brain just started screaming: "NOOOOO! I don't want it to be over!" Unfortunately, I had to put the book down, but I still felt very fulfilled in my desire to read not only a great book, but a great Stephanie Plum book.

This was my fourth Stephanie Plum book in a row and the repetition has definitely gotten to me. Now that I've wrapped up (for now) the arc that's been building since book five, time to take a break and read something else!
The very beginning of this book annoyed me a lot because it seemed like Evanovich had forgotten things that had happened in her own earlier books -- just continuity errors that shouldn't have been made. Details about Dickie's office have changed a couple of times. Lula's car ha...more

I finished this one at about 2:30 in the morning, it's all the previous books fault. I wanted to see if Stephanie paid up on her end of the deal with Ranger, but she doesn't, at the beginning anyways. I should have stopped there, but the potential Ranger goodness sucked me in. And I wasn't disappointed. =D I don't think there's going to be any long term Stephanie-Ranger cause the books seem to always bring her back to boring Morelli, but I'll take what I can get. Ranger's always lurking around w...more
Oops, forgot to put this on my "To read" (well, listen to), but these works don't take long, and are filled with all your favorite characters from The Burg and greater Trenton. Some of the book is taken up with brief back-stories, so's you are up to date on the relationships good, bad and - well - complicated. So this time our plucky ex-lingerie-buyer is hot on the trail of a divorcing mother and her, as well as an aging mobster who seems to escape every time you get a cuff on 'im. Yup, Stephani...more

The Valerie love story just flat out annoyed me, but I think the reason it annoyed me most is that there are actually women out there like that. Which absolutely terrifies me. Kloughn was annoying. But in a "oh I know people like him" sort of way.
There was no Joyce in this one, which was a nice change. Instead we got to meet a new bounty hunter. Jeanne. She is a protégé of Ranger's and unlike Stephanie, actually knows what she's doing.
She didn't come across as a bitch, which was nice.

I received Hard Eight, the unabridged audiobook version, as a present and approached it with a small amount of wariness because the last Janet Evanovich book I read on audio (that would be Seven Up) was ruined by the terrible over the top, cartoon-like rendering of the characters by narrator Tonya Elby. Hard Eight is read by a woman named Lorelei who takes an extremely different approach to Stephanie. Her approach, unfortunately, also does not work for me. Am I too picky, or what?

I’m on holidays – so here comes Book number Eight !!!
This one had a slow beginning as well.
It’s a typical Stephanie Plum story ... Mabel Markowitz, Mr & Mrs Plum’s neighbour, asks Steph to find her daughter and grand-daughter who have been missing. Steph, with Lula’s help, starts searching for the two and it doesn’t take long before she encounters Evelyn’s landlord, Eddie Abruzzi – some really creepy crime lord.

Better than #7, but fumbling stumbling Plum gets old !
We thoroughly enjoyed Janet Evanovich's first six Stephanie Plum series about a bounty hunter who has trouble getting out of her own way. With a crazy supporting cast family, especially Grandma Mazur; and two male romantic interests -- Ranger, a fellow mysterious bounty hunter; and Morelli, a cop who deflowered Plum in high school, and who seems to be the best bet for her long term -- the humor and enjoyment seemed to come as a natural bypro...more

Stephanie Plum is helping out a neighbor of her parents by trying to locate her grand daughter and great grand daughter. Evelyn's sleezy ex and her signed a child custody bond and now Steven wants his money and the bond was bought for Evelyn by putting up Grandmothers house. Steven is connected to a very bad ass named Eddie Abruzzi and is now threating Stephanie and her family. Stephanie is also trying to capture and take in Andy Bender who is a violent drunk. Hands down Evanovich is my FAVORITE author!! You can always expect to bust out laughing when reading any book in this series. The antics of both Grandma Mazur and Lula make me laugh so much my eyes water...and I don't know who's hotter Morelli or Ranger :-) I'm not going to review each individual book since the series is so long but I will say that every book is well written and Evanovich has THE best writing style around. I'm always blown away by the strong and realistic dialogue which makes th...more

Hard Eight is another great audiobook by Janet Evanovich. Evanovich’s main character in this series, Stephanie Plum is an accident waiting to happen. As mentioned in previous reviews of this series, Stephanie is a former lingerie buyer that fell on hard times and took a job working for her cousin as a bounty hunter. She’s not the greatest bounty hunter, that’s for sure, but she’s definitely the most entertaining.

I enjoyed this the least of the Stephanie Plum books, and I suspect the series is taking a downward plunge from here. I do plan on reading the next one, though, just to see if there's any improvement, or if my suspicions are correct.
A lot of the elements I liked were in here, and the way Lula plays off the character-introduced-in-this-book (there's at least one per book, per the Plum Formula) was frequently funny. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the interactions.
