It only gets a four because I'm not sure where I stand with this whole love triangle. I'm a hardcore Morelli/Steph fan (who can appreciate Ranger but doesn't want Ranger with Steph for many reasons) and am getting a little tired of the walking out on Morelli because they disagree. I'd love to see Morelli finally get tired of the whole thing and date someone else, forcing Steph to realize what the hell she wants.

This one is worth reading for the batcave alone. Seriously. Stephanie breaks into Rangers apartment and hides out there to keep safe from the gang that has targeted her. It breaks down the mystery of Ranger in a lot of ways - and yet not. He becomes less phantom and more Man in this book - which is welcome. I think his becoming more real makes his a bigger threat to Morelli and Stephanie's relationship.
I've enjoyed all 10 books of this series. I MIGHT do 11... but that would be it for me. First book started in mid-90's and I think this one is still in the 90's even though cell phones, GPS, and airport security sound more like the current century. Also, her hamster is still alive and started at 3 y.o. -I know! Stupid details!!! But they bother me! The biggest reason I'm done is because I don't feel that the main character, Stephanie, is growing at all. The characters & story line are static...more
For those that haven't gotten my 50 positive reviews for these books at the same time: Laugh out loud funny, a real treat. LOVE these books... Got into them last year as I was moving into my house. Between painting EVERY wall in the place and staying up late reading these books, I was sore all over and tired, but I had a great time doing it.

This is the tenth installment (obviously) of Stephanie Plum's misadventures. In this one, she tangles with some dangerous street gangs and her life is in serious danger. Although, I like this series, I'm becoming increasingly irritated with Stephanie. Well first I will have to say I'm on Team Morelli and I want her to grow up and stop acting like a child. Joe wants her to settle down with him and for her to get a less dangerous job--or none at all. He threw out the suggestion of 'housewife' to h...more
I liked this one too. Not as much laughing, but more suspense. I was glad for a reappearance of Sally. I liked the characters and some of the FTAs. The ending was great, perfect and a complete surprise. Whooo hooo! The Bat Cave! I liked the hideout and it's feelings. Poor Hal. :) Ranger is looking better and better. Joe is looking worse and worse. I hope Steph gets it figured out. Enjoy!
There really wasn't any mystery in this one at all. Stephanie is being targeted to be killed by a gang. That's it. And obviously, since there are four more books, she manages not to get killed. There's nothing really unclear about it other than why exactly they're targeting her, but even that is waved away at the beginning of the book by an off-hand comment about gangs not really needing a reason to do anything.

Stephanie Plum, a Trenton, N.J., bounty hunter, accompanied by her trigger-happy friend Lula, an errant file clerk, is after a quirky collection of bail-jumpers—a man who killed a neighbor's rosebushes relieving himself on them, a drag queen musician/school bus driver accused of assault, and a woman who claims she robbed a Frito-Lay truck because she hated her low-carb diet—when she witnesses a convenience store robbery. Unfortunately, Anton Ward, the holdup man, learns that Stephanie can identi...more

The way I see it, life is a jelly doughnut. You don't really know what it's about until you bite into it. And then, just when you decide it's good, you drop a big glob of jelly on your best T-shirt.

There is marriage in the making , apartment seeking and of course mischief in the new Stephanie Plum novel. Stephanie's sister Valerie is getting married to Albert Kloughn , the father of their new baby. During a bond pick-up our two favourite gals Lula and Stephanie re-connect with Sally Sweet - the tranvestite from the early books. He is now working during the day as a School bus driver and since of course he is such a fashionista , Sally takes on the role as Valerie's Wedding Planner. What's...more
Funny! performed by Lorelei King – my favorite via audio! It begins as an innocent trip to the deli-mart, on a quest for nachos. But Stephanie Plum and her partner, Lula, are clearly in the wrong place at the wrong time. A robbery leads to an explosion, which leads to the destruction of yet another car. It would be just another day in the life of Stephanie Plum…except that she becomes the target of a gang. And the target of an even scarier, more dangerous force that comes to Trenton. With super...more
Crude at times? Yes, occasionally, but this wasn't vital to enjoying the story.
Vulgar language at times? Yes, but this was balanced with Sally's efforts to clean up his language with a snap of his elastic wrist band and other characters who were obviously substituting milder expletives when pushed to their limits.
Why did I like it? It was funny! Stephanie's family and friends were so over-the-edge in their behavior that they seemed like real people. They could laugh at themselves. If you met Ste...more

Ok, I am a big fan of this series. If you want a good beach read that doesn't require much brain use and will make you laugh, this is the perfect series for that. Yet, sadly, this one was really lacking in the laughs department. There were a few chuckles and some smiles here and there but this one just felt really tired and dated. Plus, it feels like Stephanie is stuck in the exact same place she was at the beginning of the series. There has been zero growth or change in her life and that makes...more
This had to be my favorite one so far. I've been told by quite a few people they do not like this series and do not understand why I read it. Well, let me tell ya this series makes me actually laugh out loud. They are a joy to read, because of the stupid luck Stephanie has. The trouble, her band of back up, and the triangle between Ranger, Steph, and Joe. I mean really in her position I would probably do the same things.

I don't know how Janet Evanovich does it, but the Stephanie Plums books just keep getting better and better and Ten Big Ones is no exception. Stephanie Plum gets into more than she can handle, once again, and even though I know there are more books following this one, I was actually extremely concerned for Stephanie's life. Not only that, but, Ranger has more of an appearance in this one as well, which is always a plus in my opinion.

-This is the 10th Stephanie Plum novel. I’ve read some but not all of the novels leading up to this one. Keep that in mind when reading the review.
Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter from Jersey, and not a particularly good one. She claims that trouble follows her, and though there is truth to that, she tends to make reckless decisions, like going into gang territory trying to ID a gang member after witnessing a robbery. While I often want to throttle her for these moves, it would not be a very in...more

Just "Plum" funny, with a little plot to go with her !!
We're a fan of the whole Evanovich bounty hunter Stephanie Plum series. When we in the past read a few too many of her stories too close to each other, they all started to run together and the fun wore off. But we had to wait awhile for "Ten", which to us finds Plum back in good (and funny) form, with her usual problems bringing in her bond skippers despite help from her friend and co-worker Lulu. Just listened to this as an audio book that I got from a BookCrossing CD Book Box.
I'm a relative latecomer to actually reading the Plum books. I read the first one years ago, but I think Grandma Mazur struck a little too close to home, where we had our own brand of eccentric old lady living with us. I managed to release almost all the numbers, but didn't read any of them.
Then Bumma, our own dear live-in grandma (who was more likely to tote a book than a gun, but still could confabulate even the...more

In Ten Big Ones, Stephanie Plum is the only one who can identify a gang member known as The Red Devil, leader of a local gang called The Slayers. Of course, Stephanie being Stephanie is targeted by a gang hitman known as Junkman. Having no place to go without endangering her loved ones and losing her car to an unfortunate explosion, yet again, Stephanie leaves Morelli's house and lies low in Ranger's almost bat cave.

Stephanie is in the middle of a robbery on her lunch break, Lula shooting the tires of the robbers bike tires, and a bomb cocktail sets off another of Plum's zany escapades. She has gotten herself involved now with a bad-ass gang who now has put her on a hit list and there is a new leader from LA called "Junkman" who wants to do some really bad things to her, then kill her in the end. She gets in an arguement with her long time lover, Joe Morelli after her car and his house is graffitied from th...more
Hands down Evanovich is my FAVORITE author!! You can always expect to bust out laughing when reading any book in this series. The antics of both Grandma Mazur and Lula make me laugh so much my eyes water...and I don't know who's hotter Morelli or Ranger :-) I'm not going to review each individual book since the series is so long but I will say that every book is well written and Evanovich has THE best writing style around. I'm always blown away by the strong and realistic dialogue which makes th...more

You get an inkling of how awesome this book is when there is a car death pretty much right at the start. Honestly, if I was Stephanie's insurer, I'd flat out refuse to insure her.
Whilst this obviously the tenth in the series, it doesn't matter if you're a newcomer because as always, there are quick introductions to who everyone is meaning that you can just step right in. Those familiar with the series obviously already know and can get more out of it.

Ten Big Ones is the tenth novel in the Stephanie Plum series.
In this installment, Stephanie and her sidekick Lulu are in the wrong place at the wrong time. They witness the notorious gang member, the Red Devil, rob a store and attempt to burn it down. Stephanie sees his face making her the only person who can identify him (Lulu was busy trying to get her gun out of her handbag at the time). Soon this knowledge makes Stephanie a target for his vicious gang, the Comstock Street Slayers, who put a...more

TEN BIG ONES is the tenth book in the hugely popular Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.
This time Stephanie is in more trouble than ever as she becomes the focus of local gangs, who plan to hunt her down and kill her. In between avoiding the gangs Stephanie becomes deeper in her lusting for Ranger and trying to define her relationship with Morelli.
I'm not sure I would define TEN BIG ONES as a cozy mystery as there was no real "murder mystery". There were murders but it was pretty clear to...more

This book was so far my least favorite. It was good that she finally gets that she is in danger and needs to hunker down a bit. Even though she and Morelli go into another 'off again' spell . . . it is not truly off again. I would like to think he gets she left to keep him safe as well as she left because she knows she drives him crazy with her willingness to walk into dangerous situations. I do have to say that Lula talking Steph into doing stupid stuff is really crazy making at times. At some...more
I found myself bored with this book. It took me a long time to get in the mood to actually read it. I felt the same way about "To the Nines." I think it was because I read "Visions of sugar Plums" and almost threw up at how stupid it was. To take such an outrageous yet reality grounded character as Stephanie Plum and put her in a world of super humans who can create lightening, and other strange things ruined it. So reading that left a sour taste in my mouth going into the 9th and 10th books. An...more
As always, Stephanie Plum has more in her plate than she can handle. She witnesses a crime and is the only one who can identify the thief, which would be OK if said thief wasn't part of a very dangerous gang. And when she stupidly decides to drive through the gang's area, her head gets assigned a dangerous hitman who goes by the name of Junkman. Stephanie finally gets scared for real, and decides to move out of Morelli's place and stay away from her family in order to keep them safe. She moves i...more
