I went into reading Her Vampire Husband expecting it to be much like Kiss Me Deadly—not amazing, light paranormal romance. I think my opinion on the book benefitted from this, but I do also believe that it was a much better offering than Kiss Me Deadly by the same author, Michele Hauf.

Blu Masterton is a werewolf princess with her knickers in a twist because her father has arranged to marry her off to old and powerful vampire, Creed Saint-Pierre, in order to form a tentative truce between the werewolf and vampire nations. Creed Saint-Pierre isn’t exactly thrilled with the arrangement either but he sucks it up because he knows it’s the right thing to do given the circumstances, and it will benefit the vampires by giving them time to put their plan into action. Of course, once the couple sets eyes on each other and share their first kiss as husband and wife at the top of the aisle, things swiftly progress into a blossoming romance between the two.

It was a little too swift for my liking and once they start snogging and bonking, they can’t seem to stop. It’s rapid fire sketchy love scenes all the way. We’re told that the hatred between vampires and werewolves runs deep, but these two get over their apparent dislike of the other’s species fairly quickly and with minimal internal struggle. It all happened a bit too easily to be satisfying. I was expecting a good fight, a battle of emotions inside the characters, or at least some more realistic conflict.

The story is also quite light on plot, and things are fairly predictable, although I did like the back story of Blu and the little historical notes on Creed’s life that are dripped in throughout the book. I liked the hero but feel he should have stuck to his principles a bit more and fought his desire for a little longer before playing lapdog to the heroine. The heroine, Blu, irritated me sometimes. The language she used and the way she behaved felt like a blatant attempt by Ms. Hauf to make the heroine appear very young and wild. I think it was the language that irked me most. If I heard the word ‘dude’ one more time I might have taken a seething dislike to the heroine.

The writing wasn’t stellar, but it was okay. There were a few moments where words just didn’t seem right and felt out of place, or the way she had worded it had me reading the same sentence five times to make heads or tails of it. There were also times when I felt the author could have put more effort into the description. The fight scenes in particular didn’t really grab me. I wanted to be able to picture what was happening but couldn’t. I also think some of the characters would have benefitted from better description. There’s a lot of mentioning the clothing of the hero and heroine, and some about the looks, but a lot of the supporting characters don’t get much description. I know from personal experience that you can’t describe minor characters in detail without getting bogged down, but there were characters in this I would have classed as secondary characters, who had enough air time in the book that they deserved better description.

All in all, I’m going to give this a solid three. I might have been tempted to up it to a 3.5 if I had liked the heroine more. This book also benefitted from being free on Amazon Kindle. If it hadn’t been a freebie, I probably wouldn’t have read it as I wasn’t tempted to continue with the author after reading Kiss Me Deadly.

Arranged marriages are so last year, at least that’s what Blu Masterson thought until her father arranged for her to marry Creed Saint-Pierre. She is expected to marry a long tooth, a mortal enemy of the werewolves in a quest for peace. This marriage is supposed to bring both factions together and stop the wars between them.

I love Blu, she is smart, very sarcastic and not afraid to go after what she wants. She is a rare, female werewolf who hides behind brightly colored wigs and outlandish clothes. She has endured years of abuse from members of her pack and had to developed defense mechanisms to survive. She is the total opposite from her “long tooth” husband.

Creed is over 900 years old and loves the finer things in life. He drives expensive cars, wears designer clothes and is the local Tribe leader. When Blu moves in, she teases him that he is boring. As the book progresses you see him start to loosen up and enjoy life again. He enjoys her quirky behavior and will do anything to see her smile.

I like Creed and Blu as a couple. They complement each other, even though they are complete opposites. I love how they both changed their view of the “enemy” as the book progressed. Creed calmed Blu down and she loosened him up. They worked together when they realized that their marriage was no longer a farce.

This story is part of the Wicked Games series but can be read as a standalone. I read it before I read other books in this series and enjoyed it so much that I had to read the rest of the stories. It was nice to see how some of the other characters ended up together.

I loved this book. The romance between the leads is strong and the underlying political issues don’t distract from it. Ms. Hauf weaves it into the story in a way that draws you in and makes you want to know more. The ending was a nice surprise. The book is fast paced and I didn’t want to put it down. I read it in one day.

I highly recommend this book. I give this book 4 ½ Flaming Hearts.

From the first page I was drawn to the couples plight. The book starts rapidly, with very little buildup, which was a nice surprise. I was immediately engrossed in the characters and could not wait to turn the page and see what would happen next. Much like Blu and Creed I was surprised, shocked, and entranced as the two characters discovered each other and learned more about themselves in the process.

As a new reader of Michele Hauf's books I enjoyed the wide array of characters introduced in the book. And found myself wishing I could learn their story as well. The environments were skillfully written with flare and color, regardless of the scene I could easily envision each setting. It often times felt like the book was a mixture of modern and historical nuances, from the characters histories to their personalities. I would compare the story to a romantic ballad, full of passion and power. There is a great mixture of soft moments and exciting action.

My only criticism would be that Blu and Creed seemed to fall in love and pronounce it a bit too easily. Unlike many books where the characters deny their feelings and are insecure with their love, Blu and Creed embrace it. This is good and bad. A bit more angst would have seemed more realistic, but too much certainly gets very frustrating. I would also have liked to get to know Blu more. Very minimal information is given about her life growing up with the pack. In retrospect, I actually learned about her as Creed did, which makes for a very unique reading experience.(less)

I have to admit, I happened across this book by chance and thought ... Why not, I'll give it a go and to my surprise I found myself totally immersed in the book and unable to put it down. In hopes of creating a peace pact between two enemy nations, a wedding is arranged for Blu, an eccentric princess werewolf who has a passion for colorful wigs, and Creed, a 900 year old French vampire who cannot say no to a challenge. Neither is fully willing to jump into a "farce" marriage, but eventually they both begin to forget their past prejudices and learn that their playful bickering has somehow developed into a friendship/trust/love that is their own. Yet, just because their feelings have changed doesn't mean their own nations will.

This was my first time reading Michele Hauf and, honestly, I'm not familiar with any of her past works either. I did enjoy her development of the characters and how she gave Blu & Creed time to get over their reluctance and work on their relationship as a newly married couple before throwing in too many side tangents. I was worried starting this book (as the third of a series) that I may have been a bit behind or lost, but I was 'good to go' the whole read through, so it's a great stand alone tale. I'm now tempted to check out Creed's Michelob beer drinking vampire friend Alexandre Renard's story next - Vampire's Tango. (Except I'm NOT a fan of Dancing With the Stars, so it'll probably go on my TBR pile.)

Likes: The food references from Chili Chocolate to Count Chocula.

Dislikes: Blu's ditsy attitude at the beginning and that there didn't seem to be too many decent & respectful werewolves. (less)

When I first saw this book, I was instantly curious. The blurb left me wanting the book, despite the fact I had absolutely no money to spend.
After going home and counting any and all money in my room, I went back and bought the book that had completely captured my interest.

ust when I think I've read all there is to read in the vampire/werewolf animosity arena, I come across a book like this, which manages to shake up the standard tropes in a really fun way.

Wow....what an amazing read.

This was my first vampire novel as I've always picked them up and put them down before, not knowing if I'd like them, or not. However after my daughter introduced me to the Twilight series, via DVD's and I found this one FREE for Kindle I decided to give it a go...What have I been missing out on?

Hot is the first word that comes to mind when I think of Her Vampire Husband. Very erotic would be the second. The second reason is what kept me from really liking the book. I prefer my romances with more veiled loved scenes, although throwing in one or two really hot ones is fine. Connected to her Nocturne Wicked Games series, in Her Vampire Husband Michele Hauf gives us yet another immortal pairing finding love in the arms of the enemy - a vamp and a werewolf here instead of the earlier vamp/witch couples of the earlier books. This time Michelle Hauf gets just a bit more space to work with than the rest of her Wicked Game Nocturne books to tell her story and she puts the extra pages to good use in developing both her leads and spending the time to allow for the vampire husband, Creed, and his reluctant werewolf bride, Blu, to get past their racial prejudices. Time for 'dog' and 'long tooth' to grow to like and then love each other, as Creed discovers the vulnerable young woman behind the wild wigs and uncouth manners and Blue finds the tender, passionate, considerate man at the heart of the stuffy ancient vamp.

I didn't realize that this was authored by Hauf when I bought My Vampire Husband which is just as well since I'd been of the opinion that her work was hit or miss for me. But after this story and a few others that I have liked recently(Deadly Kiss and Devil To Pay) I have to change that to more hit than miss (I am now 7 out of 9 on the positive side - though I have to say that Hauf's shapeshifter mythos is not my favorite.)

With the story set firmly in the Wicked Games world, there are all sorts of fun cameos from past characters, but I think that this one would work well enough as a stand alone read since Hauf manages to bring in pretty much everything of importance from the past books - though I think that new readers will be intrigued by the subtle references to past events in the series - fortunately all the earlier books are still available at least in e-format.

So, I admit, I picked this book up for free from the Amazon kindle store as something to tide me over a bit – and of course, I’m a sucker for a bargain!

Basically, the story is that a vampire (Creed) and a werewolf (Blu) are forced to wed as an attempt to solve the problems between the warring factions. However, both sides are plotting against the other – and the unlikely pair never really intended to fall in love for real. But it happens. And then of course, they need to stop the war for real.

I’m firstly going to say that this definitely one of the saucier things I’ve read in 2011, and I suppose that given it’s published by an imprint of Mills and Boon I shouldn’t be surprised.

I’m also going to say that in the reviews of this I’ve read, the general consensus is that the first half of the book is generally better than the second, and I’m going to agree with that. The focus in the first half of the book is on the developing relationship between Creed and Blu, following their marriage, which is the first scene of the book.

I liked that the book got straight into the story – there was no real lead up to the wedding or Blu and Creed meeting each other – you’re straight in there as soon as you start reading. That much gripped me straight away. Obviously, on first marrying each other, they’re apprehensive and worried about their new marriage, as well as pretty sure they’re going to dislike each other.

However, it doesn’t work out that way, and of course, eventually two attractive individuals are pretty likely to come together. I’m going to admit, the flirting and the love scenes in this were well done, though the frequency with which they were peppered throughout the book eventually started bothering me and interfering with the story.

However, the story progresses with the two falling in love, and then having to stop their opposing races’ plans to obliterate the others. And I’m pretty sure I can say without ruining everything that eventually love conquers all.

For me, the best part of the book was Blu and Creed getting to know each other and the copious amounts of flirting. The politics didn’t bother me so much, and things sometimes seemed to be put in just because it was convenient as a plot device. That all said, I enjoyed the book, and I think I would recommend it as a nice light read, but definitely one for more mature audiences.

I got this as a ‘filling in’ book and therefore didn’t have any major expectations. It was however a surprisingly good read.

The Counsel therefore decide a high ranking vampire (Creed) should marry one of the few female werewolves (Blu) to create a show of peace between the species. Neither is particularly happy about the arrangement. Creed does it for the greater good of his tribe and Blu does it because as...more I got this as a ‘filling in’ book and therefore didn’t have any major expectations. It was however a surprisingly good read.

In this world, vampires and werewolves are trying to bring peace between their 2 species. The Counsel therefore decide a high ranking vampire (Creed) should marry one of the few female werewolves (Blu) to create a show of peace between the species. Neither is particularly happy about the arrangement. Creed does it for the greater good of his tribe and Blu does it because as a female werewolf and daughter to the alpha she has no say in the matter. Blu is 20 something, extravagant, unruly, loudmouthed and emotionally scarred by her past treatment from the pack and Creed is a 900 year old tribe leader who likes intelligent conversation, peace and quiet and is used to being treated with the upmost respect as one of the elders. As you can imagine, when thrown together, these 2 really didn’t get along.

It was fun to read the beginning of their marriage as each struggled to deal with the other. The snide remarks and sarcastic comments were funny and as the book reads from alternating POV’s I felt like I really got to know the pair well. The pact drawn up by the Counsel stated that they would marry and then Blu would take Creed’s bite. Something which is so intimate and bonds 2 people together so tightly that it would show the rest of the vampires and werewolves that the 2 species can get along. However Blu is not about to give herself to Creed that easily! And Creed is not particularly into her either, other than her good looks, he finds her to be too foulmouthed and unruly.

However when they do start to finally get along a bit and unite together due to betrayals from both their separate families, they start to enjoy each other’s company and realise they both can change. Blu becomes a lot calmer thanks to Creed’s quiet presence and Creed learns to lighten up a bit and have fun. The important thing about this development was that it was not rushed. That’s what made it so lovely to read. There was no instant where they both just gave in and hopped in the sack. The relationship genuinely built up bit by bit as each gave away secrets and more trust until eventually they realised how in love they were. All that was left to do was try to solve the ever present differences between the other vampires and werewolves as it soon became apparent that a simple marriage was not going to solve anything and both sides had ulterior motives.

I seriously enjoyed this book. The pace was set just right, the characters developed beautifully and the story line was really interesting. Highly recommend!

A partire dalla metà del libro ce n’è per tutti i gusti e viene fuori il lato da lupa di Blu. Soltanto verso il finale l’azione prende vita e indirizza il romanzo verso la solita lieta conclusione. Nessuna atmosfera inquietante,nessuna trama particolarmente sofisticata,nessun elemento distintivo. Una storia quasi banale. Tratta ormai un argomento così sfruttato che difficilmente può offrire qualcosa di più di una piacevole lettura sotto l’ombrellone. Nulla di eccezionale.

Admittedly, I read this book out of pure curiosity and boredom. It certainly wasn't one of the best books I've ever read, but it also wasn't a bad way to spend an evening.

The book begins with a marriage ceremony intended to ease the conflict between the vampires and the werewolves. It certainly wasn't one of the best books I've ever read, but it also wasn't a bad way to spend an evening.

The book begins with a marriage ceremony intended to ease the conflict between the vampires and the werewolves. Blu Masterson, daughter of the pack leader, and Creed Saint-Pierre, a 900 year old vampire and tribal leader, are forced to marry in hopes of preserving their kind. Part of this marriage contract dictates that in order to consummate the marriage, Blu must accept the bite of Creed, the act which traditionally seals the marriage between vampires. To Blu this would be an insult to her pride and her status as a werewolf, making it impossible for her to return to her pack. Worse yet, for Blu, she fears alienating her werewolf lover.

Both Blu and Creed follow this guise of a wedding with a personal agenda in mind, convinced that they can never fall in love, but as they are forced to live together and ultimately trust one another, their feelings begin to change. The characters and events are mostly predictable, the main characters follow their personal agendas until they realize that they truly can love and trust each other. Then, they face the ultimate challenge of spreading this trust and unity to the members of their respective races.

At best, it's a decent read if you're looking for paranormal romance, a quite provocative paranormal romance indeed. It's an easy and generally fun read. I enjoyed the dynamic between Blu and Creed, most of the time. Creed did not come across as the usual self-loathing vampire, but his positive and caring qualities rub off on the young werewolf. At worst, it's cliched and predictable. The ulterior motives pursued by the main characters are, to say the least, unsurprising. The secondary characters aren't very consistent; Blu's best friend, a faery named Bree, who had a great deal of potential, simply disappears for most of the story. And, I'm still not sure if it's just corny or a bit sly to name the devil "Himself."

My verdict: If you're looking for something to do and can't find a better book to read, borrow it from the library, but be prepared for some explicit scenes.

Her Vampire Husband by Michele Hauf is a fun and easy read. If you’re ever bored and feel like sitting in and reading, then this is a book you’d want to consider. This is supposed to be the 3rd book in her Wicked Games series, but you don’t have to read her series. This book can be read by itself.

I agree'd with most of the other reviewers that the first half of this book was AWESOME but after the half way mark just really lost steam for me.

Very interesting storyline two enemies having to marry to make peace with their clans but of course the marriage was SUPPOSE to be a faux but how on earth do a feisty werewolf and a delicious vampire not fall in love? Overall I quite enjoyed this one .... and it was different to have Vamp on Were to mix things up.

I particularly liked the two main characters, Creed and Blue and found their loving story quite lovely, especially given that there were forced to marry at the very start of the book.

There were times whilst reading that it simply stopped flowing, and would then pick up.

Happy to say that if there were any editorial/typographical errors in it I didn't notice.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this book up, but now I'm glad that I did. It was an amazing read, and has kept me entwined in the plot since I started it. I love vampires. I love werewolves. Mix them together and throw in some conflict and you’re always bound to get heated results. Which is exactly what Blu and Creed get as a result of their arranged marriage.

In order to soothe the tensions between the two tenacious races both sides nominate a sacrifice. The werewolves offer one of their valuable females, Blu Masterson, the alpha’s lone daughter. The vampires select Creed Saint-Pierre, a centuries old elder vampire. They are to marry to show a sign of both sides efforts to create peace between the warring races.

Thrown together the pair must confront their prejudices against each other’s races and over come the odds thrown against them. Though neither are aware that the other is holding back one little detail, their plot to be the first to overthrow the others unsuspecting race.

This is the first time I’ve read one of Michele Hauf’s books and when I saw that the publisher was Harlequin (I vowed never to read one of their books when I discovered my mothers love for them as a child) and nearly passed on it. But, I was willing to give it a go. How many times have you passed on a book because of it’s cover, genre etc.? I’ll admit, I’ve done it – who knows what treasures I might have passed over? I’m glad I did.

I don’t want to go into too much detail as this is a pre-release review and I would hate to spoil it for those looking forward to it. The book is well played out and the conflicting opposites in the main characters – Blu’s love for living on the wild side with her array of multi coloured wigs and barely there clothing against Creeds quiet and reserved personality was crackling with tension as they grated one another in close quarters.

Final Thoughts…

This was a great light read for me in a week where I’ve barely been able to hold a conversation for longer than two minutes before I zone out in tiredness.

There were moments when things were wrapped up a little too neatly and conveniently for me and I bristled when previous head butting conflicts were settled in the space of a few sentences. But it fit in with the romantic tone of the book and kept the book moving. I can honestly say I read the book from start to finish without it loosing pace, which can be a terrible thing for any reader.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and will be checking out more of Michele’s work and if you enjoy your romantic paranormal tales then I suggest you check this out!

I didn't have high hopes for this book when I saw it was a Mills & Boon as I usually find them quite monotonous. However, this was Nocturne so I took a chance. And I'm glad that I did.

Overall, I enjoyed the book but feel that it could have been so much better.
