BAD LUCK:

Vinnie, of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds, has run up a gambling debt of $786,000 with mobster Bobby Sunflower and is being held until the cash can be produced. Nobody else will pay to...more

frankly, i don't know why i'm putting myself through this. masochistic urge to see if evanovich will finally put us out of our misery? i swear, if she goes all the way to 20 i'm going to start writing her hate mail.

**

turned out the audiobook gods didn't want me to put myself through this either, a few tracks in the 2nd disc squelched to a halt and i'm letting myself off the hook. here's what happened before i quit:

1. lula eats donuts
2. lula shoots at people for no reason
3. lula eats more donuts...more

I know I'll read this because I've read all of them, but I read the first 2 chapters online last weekend and I was not impressed. I've read so much better stuff from people who can't get published that this reheated mix from Evanovich seems especially unfair. Hopefully I'll feel differently after I've read the whole book.

Well, I didn't. Same ol' stuff. I know I used to like Stephanie and care about her. Now it just seems like nothing happens. There was a point where she was in a car, thinking th...more

Worse than the last book. Don't waste your time. Not that you'll spend a lot of time reading--the book was printed with large margins & big print to disguise the fact that there isn't much book. Took me 90 minutes to read it. Nor is there much of a plot. Vinnie's been kidnapped. Hard to believe anyone would want to save a sleazebag but Stephanie, Connie, & Lula do & it's the same-old, same-old. Ditto with Stephanie's relationships with Ranger & Morelli. Even the usual car crash i...more

I don't know why I keep reading this series. I loved it when it first started, but now, at 16 books strong (they're bestsellers), I am getting tired of the SAMENESS of them all.

Stephanie Plum is crappy at her job as a bonds agent. She usually finds of her targets, often captures them with the help of Ranger, a hot security consultant, and even more regularly ends up in some kind of embarrassing escapade. She is torn between Joe Morelli, her cop boyfriend, and super-sexy mystery man Ranger. She w...more

Yes, I just gave all 16 of these books 3 stars. No, I didn't just read them all in a row. I just read the 16th one while on a plane (er, I forget which one, I've been on a lot of planes this week - 8, including one transcon). It took me about an hour. I really like these books even though they all have exactly the same plot:

-Stephanie is super cute and hot (despite eating only donuts and fried chicken) and all the guys want her, even though she thinks she is mostly average
-Although she is the wo...more

Much Better then the last book! I went and re-read the Plum series before starting this book. I wanted to go back and remember why I loved this series so much. This book was so much better then #15. It had the laughs the intense scenes with Ranger, and of course Morelli. But it's the Ranger that sells this book for me. It also makes me want to throw it at a wall too. It's been since Hard Eight and I've been biting my nails and starting to hate the series. I know many are Morelli fan's but there...more

Why do I keep reading these? The Stephanie Plum series jumped the shark about ten years ago, after book six. Those first books are some of my favorites of all time, however, so I keep going even though I ought to know better.
It bothers me that Stephanie's never getting older, and she doesn't get wiser. And at this point, there's nothing "sizzling" about her attraction to Ranger. Ranger has weird, stilted dialogue, and all of their flirting is robotic and unnecessary. Morelli shows up just often...more

I loved this book so much. I have read books from this series before but I think I love this one the best. The characters were so sidesplitting funny. It was so easy to imagine them. Like Lulu with her tightfitting clothes and ample bosom, with sequins or glitter on her shoes.

The dialogue was priceless with every character having their own style of talking that went right along with their unique style of dressing.

The situations were so crazy too, I won't tell you about that because it would spoi...more

Another wonderful Stephanie Plum novel. It's amazing that Janet Evanovich can keep all the same characters going over this many books, keeping them fresh and true-to-themselves. Although, I'm starting to see that Lula and Grandma Mazur have a lot in common .

In "Sizzling Sixteen", Stephanie and Lula are up to their usual "barely getting the job done" tricks, with all sorts of twists in the plot. That there will be twists is expected - nothing ever seems to go smoothly for poor Stephanie. The way...more

Stephanie Plum has to find her boss, Vinnie. Vincent Plum Bail Bonds has run up a gambling debt of R786 000 with mobster, Bobby Sunflower. Stephanie, office manager, Connie and file clerk / ex-prostitute / side-kick, Lula have to save the day - and their jobs. Two of the most delicious men in fiction love independent, feisty Stephanie. Joe Morelli, the good cop, and Ranger, the dangerous security expert. Both men complicate the story - as all good love interests in fiction should.

I saw another reader use this word to describe the book and it's exactly how I felt after I finished it - meh. I do realize that the Stephanie books are supposed to be fun, easy, light reads, and maybe I’m too hard on this series and expect a lot more than I should, but the past few books have been big letdowns. The “mystery” of this book lacked any depth and left me not caring at all about how it would turn out. Comedic bits and circumstances Steph finds herself in are being repeated. How many...more

Definitely better than the last two in this series but it doesn't even come close to being as good as some of her previous ones (namely 5-13). The humor is there in spades, especially with Lula. The bounty hunter storyline is cute but not particularly exciting. Because these books are very formulaic, the excitement has always come in the Stephanie, Morelli, Ranger love triangle. When she quits focusing on that, the rest just seems same 'ol same 'ol. (OK, I'll admit I'm a huge Ranger fan and am v...more

Yes, it's a little embarrassing to admit that I've read all of the SP series (but not the between the numbers books). They make me laugh and it reminds me of reading a comic book when I was a kid, without the pictures. The new book comes out every year around June 21 which is my wedding anniversary and coincides with a trip we take each year at that time that cries out for summer reading. SP is a guilty pleasure.

After reading: this is my last investment in this series. Each one keeps getting wor...more

For the first time, Evanovich failed the found-myself-suddenly-laughing-out-loud test. It could have been the fact that the hot weather has robbed me of my favorite reading spot. Nonetheless, it's still a fast, fun read.

Yes I'm reviewing the book before I'm finished but that's only because I accidentally saw some of the negative reviews and feel I have to say something. When reading these types of books you have to expect that it's not going to be Jane Austen literature. Books like these are meant for pure entertainment...like watching a sitcom instead of a drama. Lighten up. If you're looking for Stephanie to finally make a committment to Morelli or Ranger than you are missing the point of the books and you sh...more

Every time I finish a Stephanie Plum book, I tell myself I'll never read another one, but here I am, with the newest one. At least it's a quick read.

If Stephanie Plum didn’t have bad luck, she would have no luck at all. While some may think it’s good luck that Stephanie’s boss Vinnie has been kidnapped, Stephanie knows her family would never let her live it down if she didn’t bring him home.

So, on top of the FTA’s that Stephanie needs to capture to even buy groceries, she’s in charge of finding her sleaze ball boss. And of course he wasn’t just kidnapped by someone because of his good looks, it’s more of a money thing…and a mob thing.

I will always love this series, but a lot of this is getting old. I feel like Evanovich really hit her stride around books 9 or 10. However, the last three haven't been good. Several books ago, the story and characters have actually been progressing but now they're back into the same routines, book after book.

1. Stephanie has been doing this job for quite some time now, but she's still completely ridiculous. She makes idiotic, minor mistakes. Can't a character learn some job skills!? The screw u...more

It's Stephanie Plum time again and this time , it's Vinnie their boss that's in trouble and if things continue the way they are going then it looks like Stephanie, Lula and Connie will all be out of a job and it will be bye-bye to the world of Vinnie's Bail Bonds. Vinnie has been captured with his pants down- literally and owes Bobby Sunflower a load of cash from gambling debts. When Stephanie and Connie check their books , it seems that alot of money has been going missing and they are broke. N...more

Read this in approximately 24 hours and really enjoyed it. The last couple of installments in this series seemed to be lacking and increasingly preposterous. With Sizzling Sixteen Ms. Evanovich is back in good form. That's not to say there's no preposterousnous (that can't be a word) here.
Stephanie Plum is up to her neck in crocodiles, of course, except in this case it's an alli...more

Ugh. Now I remember why I bogged off at book 13 a while back. Same old, same old. Multiple cars blow up. Lula farts and eats everything in sight. Steph cannot catch a skip to save her life, without help anyway. Even a lot of the sentences that are filtered throughout seem cut exact like from other books.

Also, I am really starting to think of Steph as a giant, whorish, cocktease. Ok, so, that may be a bit harsh, but all she does is waffle back and forth between Joe & Ranger. And...more

His name is Joe Morelli, and I’m not sure how I’d categorize our relationship. Sometimes we were pretty sure it was love, and other times we suspected it was insanity. He’s a Trenton plainclothes cop with a house of his own, a grandmother from hell, a lean, muscled body, and brown eyes that can make my heart skip beats. We grew up together in lots of ways, and the truth is, he’s probably more grown up than I am.

Stephanie is at it again. Finding all sorts of trouble in the New Jersey Burg. Her boss and cousin Vinny has been kidnapped by his bookie and being held till his his Million dollar betting dept can be paid or they will kill him. The heat is still going on between Steph and Morelli and Steph and Ranger(where do all his cars come from lol). She needs to make a decision between the 2 but i love them both too and dont want to lose either one. This book actually had me laughing so hard that tears cam...more

Admittedly, the situations are getting kind of repetetive. Stephanie can't decide between Ranger and Morelli. Lula's still trying ridiculous diets. Grandma Mazur is still upturning coffins. Bad guys still break into her apartment. Part of me likes that some things never change in this series - in fact, that was the draw for me the first five or six books in. But I think the series needs a major turn soon to stay interesting. Also, in the last few books the villain of the story has turned out to...more

When you read the Stephanie Plum series, you know what you're getting ... a quick fun read. Plus, you've gotten to know the quirky characters.

There is a lot of criticism about Evanovich's last books in this series that she's getting lazy and following a formula ... and I've got to agree. I debated about buying this book or wait for my turn to come up at the library (I did buy it).

Yes, I did enjoy it but it's the same stories over and over again. She and Morelli have split up yet again. She is fe...more

I've not read (or listened) to the Stephanie Plum books in any kind of order. I believe my first experience wtih Stephanie Plum and Janet Evanovich was when my sister checked out Plum Lovin' from the library. Plum Lovin' is A Between-the-Numbers Novel. And it was hilarious. I just remember listening to it and busting out laughing at different parts. Then I think Finger Lickin' Fifteen was the next one I moved onto. And now Sizzling Sixteen. This is so rare for me to pick up mid-series and out of...more

Sizzling Sixteen finds Vinnie being held for a debt owed to a bad man, who owes money to an even worse man. Stephanie, Lula and Connie set out to find and rescue Vinnie. Vinnie may be a turd, but they need their jobs and they do not necessarily want Vinnie to die.

I am feeling a little blah about the last two Plums. The story was better in Sixteen, but I am just not feeling that old Plum magic. Ranger and Morelli have taken a back seat in the last two books, though Ranger has had more time than...more

With typical Stephanie Plum, how can you go wrong? I love the way things do go wrong and end up right in these books. Stephanie loses another of Ranger's cars, she's still up in the air about whether to want Joe or Ranger, she's still the same old non-gun-toting bounty hunter, although this time she actually carries a gun with two bullets at one point and at another questions her bounty huntering life, and she still has the wackiest friends and relatives around, not to mention the people she has...more
