No one knows you like your sister. She can make you laugh or break your heart with a single word. And no one writes novels like Kristin Hannah, an author who vividly explores the intricate bonds of family and, as Tami Hoag said “touches the deepest, most tender corners of our heart.” Now, in her rich, captivating new book, she creates an indelible portrait of two women, on...more

First time I read a Kristin Hannah book and was thoroughly impressed by her writing. I couldn't seem to put the book down because I was always wanting to know what was going to happen next. I was a little disappointed in how she wrote about the characters though in the sense I felt like we got to know who Joe was at the end of the book instead of at the beginning of the book. Meghann was a strong character playing a lawyer and a loving sister. I didn't have faith in Claire and Bobby's relationsh...more

Meghan Dontess & Claire Cavenaugh are sisters who really don't know how to communicate anymore after their tough childhood. Meghan a successful divorce lawyer is dead set against love after all of her trials and tribulations between childhood, a failed marriage and dealing with everyone else's divorces. Claire loves so much even with what their childhood brought to her and Meghan however she has waited many years to get married or to find just the right man while raising her daughter by hers...more

As one of Kristin Hannah’s first time readers this book blew me away. Between Sisters is a great book for a person who enjoys reading about romance, and likes a little suspense from time to time. While reading this book I could never put it down, I would always want to know what happened next. It was like watching a soap opera where at the end of the episode you would be dying to know what happens next. The way Kristin Hannah wrote the book with drama, love, and sorrow makes it different than ev...more

The story started off a little slow. It follows two sisters who were close early in their life while they dealt with a uninvolved mother who abandoned them for a week while she struggled to maintain a moviestar career. Meghann the oldest by several years raised her baby sister, Claire, and ultimately found Claire's father and contacted him after it was clear their mother wasn't returning. Claire's father was unaware he had a child and took them in. Meghann split after realizing Claire was better...more

Sisters Claire and Meghann had a unique childhood, somewhat raised by their fame seeking mother, with their separate fathers not in the picture. When their mother abandons them for the limelight; Meghann, the older sister by several years, leaves Claire with her biological father and takes off for the city.

Now, many years later, Meghann is Seattle’s hottest divorce attorney disbelieving in love and living her rich life in a cold urban condo. While Claire stayed in her small country town with he...more

I don’t like reading books with lawyer characters. I just don’t like lawyers. ;-) I also greatly dislike psychobabble. I’m also not a huge fan of contemporary romance. Wow. That’s a lot of "don’t likes" for this book to overcome. But, this one had a bit more meat to it than the standard contemporary romance.

The story revolves around two sisters who were abandoned by their self-absorbed actress mother. The younger sister goes to live with her father in a secure and happy environment. The older s...more

This is an enjoyable beach read. Very fast read. I couldn't decide between 2 and 3 stars but settled on 2 because there are too many things that I feel critical about. The writing is formulaic and dry at places. There are moments where I really didn't care what I was reading. For example, Hannah would write how a character went up stairs, put on pajamas, brushed their teeth and got into bed. These are normal life trivialities and they annoyed me. The other major criticism I had was, especially i...more

Kristin Hannah never fails to write books that grab me and pull me into the storyline, as if I am participating.

This is a story of family disconnect, of sisters who lose touch, due to circumstances that are beyond the control of children so young. It is about the ability of families to overcome obstacles, even those involving years of separation, and become what they once were, only better.

The characters portrayed are easy to like and associate with. The joy, the pain, the heartache, of life it...more

Four stars seems like such a standard rating for me. I think my standard may have to become three stars...maybe it's that a I took a big break from reading so anything I pick up right now that holds my attention is "super-fun" to me!

Anyway - between sisters was another great Kristin Hannah book. I'm in - I will now be reading all of her books! I've yet to dislike one. Though I find them all a little heavy in that I'm waiting for the tears to flow once I reach the 3/4 mark of the book, I love he...more

If you expect anything less than an emotional rollercoaster when you read one of Kristin Hannah's books, you've opened the wrong book. In this one, two mostly estranged sisters are struggling to move forward in their lives. Meghann is a lonely divorce lawyer who has lost her sense of purpose in life. Years before, she and her sister Claire were separated when their mother disappeared and Claire was reunited with her biological father. Claire is a single mother whose entire life is consumed with...more

I loved this story of Meghann and Claire, stepsisters who, if not exactly estranged, have very different lifestyles and expectations of life. Then there is Joe, a wanderer who is running from his past, but his pain follows him wherever he goes. The three unite in an extraordinary way and through laughter, tears, and faith, help each other face the future. A beautiful story about love, trust, and honesty that kept me absorbed the entire time. I ached for Meghann and loved the way Hannah let the r...more

Differences between siblings couldn't be more extreme than they are in this overwrought feel-good novel by Hannah (Distant Shores), a tale about two estranged sisters. Meghann Dontess is a hotshot, well-to-do Seattle divorce lawyer in her 30s, entirely focused on her career. Her younger sister, Claire Cavenaugh, a single mom living in a backwater town in the Pacific Northwest, takes care of her five-year-old daughter and helps her father run his low-key lakeside resort. The half-sisters were rai...more

This was another good book from Kristin Hannah. Although it wasn't my favorite from this author, I still felt that it was a really good book. I enjoyed the connection this book had to her other novel "Distant Shores" and this book makes me want to revisit it. This doesn't end with a bittersweet feeling that is frequently found in Hannah's books and almost ended fairy tale happy. At the start I didn't like Meghann, I thought she was bitter, materialistic and didn't think of others but as the stor...more

This book makes you miss, love and apprecaite your sister for all the right reasons. There are so many mistakes we make in our lives with the people we love the most. And after, we have so many regrets that we hold on inside ourselves that makes us feel so ashamed. This book is about two sisters who had a rough childhood considering they grew up without a father and their mother was too concerned and focused on fame that she forgot she had to little girls who needed her. At the age of nine, the...more

Fast read. Really enjoyed the 1st half of the book. After a while though the story line reminded me of the movie 'Beaches'. I liked that movie. The plot just got too unbelievable in the book though. When Claire had a brain tumor and her estranged, top lawyer sister ended up falling in love with a homeless looking man named Joe who turned out to be a top Seattle surgeon, who then realized that her brain tumor could be operated on, it was a bit corny. The surgery is successful and Claire lives and...more

I gave this one 2.5 stars. It's the first book by one of my favorite authors Kristin Hannah, it also a re-read as well. I had read it long time ago, when I first discovered Ms. Hannah books, but I'd forgotten what happened in it so I decided to read it again...

Years ago, Meghann Dontess made a terrible choice that cost her everything, including the love of her sister, Claire. Now, Meghann is a highly successful attorney who doesn’t believe in intimacy–until she meets the one man who can change h...more

"When I saw you stumble over rocks along the way,
I learned the truth of real love & the gift of another day."

This quote from Hannah's book says it all. I loved everything about this book, truthfully. It was a bit too much like real life for me towards the end (I will say no more than that so as not to give anything away) - but isn't that the mark of something true & honest? A book that makes you FEEL & REMEMBER... even if they are things you'd rather not feel or remember... well, it...more

This book definitely got better as it went along. Towards the end, I could not put it down because this was the time where everything started to come together-all the characters and their emotions, the events taking place-and it all fit like a puzzle piece. I liked the fact that many of the characters in this book changed for the better as a person due to the circumstances that took place. It was nice to see how their outlooks on life changed, especially Meghann, and it makes you realize how bli...more

This book was short but good--a great read for the beach, which is where I read it within two days. Kristin Hannah portrays likeable characters and a page turner, which involves some suspense and mystery. I would not be opposed to reading some more of her writing, but she does not seem distinct enough to rank high on my list of favorite authors, or even favorite romance writers. I appreciate that for a romance the story does not focus heavily on the bedroom scenes, however, Hannah's style does n...more

I liked it but it was a bit cheezy. Megan, the single, career woman, divorce lawyer/Claire, the mother, who was raising her daughter while single and living with her father. Why weren't Megan and Claire, sisters, speaking? Megan had almost raised her younger sister, Claire, ever since their mother had taken off with some man. They had different fathers, and when it came time for Megan to let DCFS come into the picture or seek help, she sought the help of Claire's father, Sam. Sam was apparently...more

Another great story by Kristin Hannah. This was about 2 sisters, Meghann and Claire. Meghann was 7 years older, and since there mother hardly raised them, Meghann ended up motthering her younger sister. Their mother was a aspiring actress then never quite made it. She also had a revolving door as far as "step-dad's for the girls. She was married several times, and imagined herself in love each time. So the girls basically just had each other, and they extremely close. When Meghann was a young te...more

I enjoy Kristin Hannah. There's nothing terribly profound about the way she writes, but I believe she creates an interesting story that is fun to read, and more than once she's made me tear up.

This story is no different. I liked how the story changed from the perspective of three different characters, one of which we had no idea how he fit into the mix until further along in the story.

Hannah tends to have an idealist view of love, a "follow your heart" mindset, which I don't believe in but it d...more

This KH book was a little bit better than the last I read. It didn't keep me on the edge of my seat but, it certainly was a nice reminder about family and how you have time to mend broken relationships...until you don't.

Sometimes I'm a bit too insightful for my own good and as a result ruin the story for myself. There were things that stood out to me that made the mid-book twist not as shocking as it should have been but I think that it lend's itself nicely to complimenting Hannah on her consist...more

The story is about two sisters (technically half-sisters) Meg and Claire. Meg more or less raises Claire as their mother (Mama) chases after her dream career in Hollywood, often forgetting to take care of her girls and completely neglecting them. Years later, Meg became one of the top divorce lawyers in Seattle, often being seen as ruthless and cold. Her work is her life, and she is a lonely woman without a family. On the other hand, Claire did not complete college and works at her father's camp...more

Not as top-notch as Hannah's more recent novels but still a good, solid read. Meghann's tough exterior made it difficult for me to have any real empathy for her and it wasn't until the last third of the book that I felt really invested in her. I also started to get antsy with Joe's story - trying to figure out his past and how he tied into the rest of the story. It felt like that was strung out a bit much. Maybe that was to underscore his self-imposed exile but I would like to have seen the conn...more

If you liked Love Story, you'll love this! Once I quit crying, I realized what a lovely book this is. It's about two sisters who were absolutely "there" for each other while they were growing up. They had a mother who should have had her motherhood license snagged way before she ever had children. Then stuff happened and they went two different directions, one to become a very mean and nasty divorce lawyer. The other to work at the "resort" aka camping ground her father owns. The younger falls i...more
