This is a heartbreaking story, about two people who suffered a lot, but in the end managed to find their HEA.

Jack & Rosalind were happily married, until a tragedy tore them appart (view spoiler). Well tragedy, and Jack's guilt. They are still in love, after everything that happened, but it took Jack some time to admit it.

Now they are guardian's to Jake's orphaned nephews and niece. The children are grieving, and that makes it even harder for everyone to settle

I've been on a Karina Bliss binge lately and have read her entire backlist. She is such a terrific author in so many ways. She does a good job of incorporating kids without turning them into total plot-moppets, as Carrie would say. She tackles really difficult emotions--grief, remorse, guilt-- in ways that feel realistic without wallowing. She can write steamy scenes but never makes a relationship all-- or even mostly--about the sex, unlike so many contemporaries. She writes series in which each ...more

Shelves: romance
After his brother and sister-in-law die in a car accident, the hero is left guardian to their children (ranging in age from 3 to 15)--along with his ex-wife! Bliss notes in her reader's letter that she originally intended to write something more lighthearted, but this book ends up also being a meditation on grief. Not only do the hero and heroine have to overcome their past to work together and move forward, they have to deal with their shared grief over both the current tragedy and the tragedy ...more

This is definitely an emotional roller coaster of a story. It centers around 2 ex spouses who are taking care of the children of his brother and her best friend after they died in a tragic accident while on vacation. There is also a tragedy in the back story of this ex couple that greatly impacts them and the custody in the present. Alternately heart-warming and sad, these people come so far throughout the story. All the people involved in the custody seem very real and grapple with feeling and ...more

I rated this 3 stars on my first read a few months ago but something about the book draws me back to reading it again. I decided to give it 4 stars on my second read. It could easily be a 5 stars for me if there is more flashbacks to the past.

This is not just a romance between the two main characters, but about loss, grief, second chances and the different kinds of love and emotional connection. The underlying tone of the book is quite tragic, but the story is uplifting, even though it is quite

The characters in this story are so real you feel you know them. It tells the bare bones story of a family caught in the grief of losing those they love. Their struggles to cope with grief in different ways. The kids are fantastic from the toddler, who reverts back to pre-potty days, to the teenager who tries to self destruct. Roz, and Jack have an amazing love story and even the aunt, a secondary character is multi dimensional making her a 'real' person.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase more of

I liked this book. While there is a romance, the story was more about Jack falling in love with the kids. It has an HEA and the story was pretty realistic, but due to that realism, it was also pretty sad.

I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was twelve but then I forgot and did a lot of other things instead. These included getting an arts degree in English and Political Studies at Auckland University (New Zealand), a postgraduate degree in periodical journalism at the University of London, travelling, having my heart broken a couple of times, meeting the right guy, building a house, having a baby - t ...more
