But Vicky is a spunky girlwho's not going to let a small thing like death stop her from living life to the fullest. Whether Jade is in school, running, or tentatively trying to make new friends, Vicky makes h...more

One thing I've noticed about the books on this list is that a lot of them are very sad. I suppose people remember books that make them feel sad, or maybe people voted for books that helped them deal with their own grief or something.

This one is about a young girl called Jade who is grieving for her friend Vicky, who has been run over and killed in front of her.

Anyway, it's very good, engaging, nicely written. Loses a star for being a tiny bit too worthy and predictable. Wilson points out in th...more

Vicky Angel- Jacqueline Wilson.

An engaging book written in the 20th Century about two ordinary girls, who are best friends and go to the same school. Jade and Vicky have been best friends since nursery even though they were very different in character. Now at secondary school Jade is still the quiet one who always agrees with Vicky- who has a very strong character and is the decision maker of the two with a very strong character. However, a disagreement between the two friends results in a trag...more

Vicky Angel is about a girl named Jade who loses her best friend Vicky in a car crash. It deals with the theme of bereavement, grief and guilt.

Jade's friend Vicky is an outgoing, spontaneous and fun-loving girl whilst Jade is very much the opposite and more like Vicky's sidekick. They have an argument which leads to Jade dying in a car crash. From then Vicky's ghost frequently visits Jade at school where she will not allow Jade to move on and make new friends. It is only when Jade visits a couns...more

Being a person who usually overlooks Jacqueline Wilson because of the child-like colorful cover art, I read this one when my sister had it and I had to buy it for myself. It was the first out of two Wilson books I've ever read (second being the lovely "Lola Rose") and it's actually quite a powerful book, put into an "easy-read" format for kids, so to speak.

The lone standing that it's a child learning to cope with her best friends death alone was interesting and sad, and the fact she starts off f...more

#86 So I've never done well with any sort of ghost story where there's a question about whether or not the ghost is real. (The movie "The Orphanage" is a great example.) Once again, I appreciate Wilson as an author--she's just so good at sliding in subtle lines that you can make as much or as little of them as you like. (The father was the most frequent target in this story.) However, I couldn't decide if Jade was crazy or if Vicky was real and it bothered me constantly. Some readers will say it...more

"http://nwhyte.livejournal.com/1221260.html[return][return]Vicky Angel is a well-told story about grief. Jade's best friend Vicky is fatally injured in a car accident in the first chapter. Jade gradually and somewhat painfully moves away from seeing the world through Vicky's eyes, and working out how to relate to her own parent and her surviving schoolmates without her, despite her continued presence in ghostly form. In this story it is the dead Vicky, rather than Jade the narrator, who we parti...more

The last time I read this book was a while ago, but I still remember it.

**Contains SOME Spoilers**

Wilson's tale of loss follows Jade's account of how she lost her best friend. Throughout the whole book, she is continously haunted by Vicky's "ghost", which only she can see. Vicky's mother is also aware of her presense; she can feel her daughter but can't see her.
An enjoyable read. Probably the least realistic book from Jacqueline Wilson where the plot is concerned, but very realistic with the fe...more

Now, many people think it's a down book. Yeah a girl does die, but it seemed to be nice, tragic yet extremely fun. Imagine being an angel, doing the odds, Vicky Angel's a great story. Vicky's a bit of a push-over, but she still knows how to raise her and everyone else's spirit. That's why I gave it a 4, it's not that there's anything wrong with the story, it's just how it happens, just as their having so much fun and a tragic incident happens. Give it some time for something bad, that's my only...more

Generally, I might say this book is sad because it involves a girl dying, but then after she turns into a ghost, she can be as silly as she wants, floating around, sticking out her tongue without anyone seeing, it gets kind of funny.....? Oh haha..... Well, in this book, there are several types of conflicts, like Person-Society, and Person- Self. An example of Person-Society is when Jade receives a letter, asking her to go to trial, because she was a 'witness' at the scene of Vicky's death. Jade...more

Vicky dan Jade bertetangga. Sejak kelas satu SD, keduanya satu sekolah dan bersahabat meskipun memiliki sifat yang berbeda. Vicky pengatur dan banyak maunya, sedangkan Jade pemalu dan pengekor. Jade sering mengikuti kemauan Vicky, bahkan mengerjakan PRnya!

I liked Jade as the narrator. I liked how she grew as the story progressed and eventually stepped out of Vicky's shadow. I didn't like Vicky very much at all. I know i should feel sorry for her because she died but i just thought she was a really bad friend to Jade always bossing her around and always guilt tripping Jade to get her own way and never compromising to what Jade wanted to do. I hate people like that! I enjoyed the story lots, probably more now than when i first read it about 4 years...more

It was a sad story of a girl called Jade who loses her friend, Vicky, in a car accident. Suddenly she feels alone and thinks she has no one to talk to, and is totally over-whelmed by it. Until Vicky comes back to visit Jade...

It's a sad, emotional story that most children's book authors tend to avoid. it was well written and I like how it tackles hard situations other books don't, just like Jacqueline's other books.

My sister persuaded me into reading this childrens book when I was out of books on the Montrel-Toronto train. The book is about Jade who's best friend Vicky is killed in a car accident, and hoew she copes with this, or doesn't cope. Basically like that.

Well, it was a quick read, but I think I was a little too old for the book. Just too obvious. Like childrens books often are, and ougth to bee too.

This was a great book. it was about two best friends named Vicky and Jade where Vicky is popular, loud and sometimes very cruel to people. While, Jade is quiet, shy, and always sweet to everyone. But when Vicky gets run over by a car, what will Jade do while her best friend begins to haunt Jade and makes everyone think she is horribly cruel to everyone. this was a great book. read it!

One of my childhood favorites. Jacqueline Wilson's characters are an eclectic bunch, but all possess a relatable humanity- this book is no exception and gives a poignant portrayal of what grief does to the protagonist. I loved noting her growth from a timid and ghost-like girl, hiding behind her lively best friend, to a strong vital woman after dealing with her best friend's death.

My favourite Jacqueline Wilson book, and the only I still own. The only reason it has four stars (as opposed to five) is because, when I really thought about it, I realised that Jade and Vicky are actually quite...annoying characters (or just difficult to like). But still, it an excellent story of grief told through children's (or rather, almost-teenagers') perspectives.

Vicky angel is such a heart warming tale where a girl's best friend is killed at an unsuspected car crash, although this book truly had me in tears from the point i heard the brakes squeal inside my head, i really think it could use more there are so many things that i want to find out how they end! But overall this is a brilliant book

I thought this book was really good! There was emotional parts inside the book, and the author used a lot of descriptive words. There was a really good author's message, and the characters also learns lessons along the way. Jacqueline Wilson's books are all AMAZING, so I recommend you to read ALL of Jacqueline Wilson's books.

This book was really sweet and I remember really noticing the changes in the main character and her becoming brave enough to voice her opinions. I think they learnt a lot off of each other, I remember being really saddened though that it was too late for Vicky to practice what she had learnt.
Beth Stewart
I think that Vicky Angel is very sad because Jade can't control Vicky haunting her. I feel sorry for her because Jade thinks it was her fault Vicky got run over. In the end though; it was good that she learnt how to control herself and Vicky. The end was good because Jade went to heaven.

What is the point to write something totally similar to another book by the same author - [Book: Double Act]. Despite the fact the author tried to choose another characters and to put them into another situation, for me this one was 100% similar to the one mentioned before.

This was my favourite book in late primary school. Absolutely loved it and read it over and over. Though I'm not sure that my response would be quite so enthusiastic had I read it now (not exactly the target demographic these days), I'd definitely recommend it for young girls.
Chloe
The book literally reduced me to tears. It was so emotional. It's a book anyone can easily relate to, whether a friend has been lost due to death, or just from a fall out. I wouldn't say it is for younger children but around 7+.
Silvia
I read this when I was around 15, but I always remember that it was one of my favourite Jacqueline Wilson books.
It's rather emotionally captivating for a children book, which is probably why I enjoyed it so much.

My first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. A very serious story told in a way that was easy to understand and with emotion but without being too heavy. I look forward to reading more by this author.
Lucy
I couldn't really understand whether Jade was having illusions or Vicky was actually there. I don't really like books with open-ends, but it lets your imagination build the rest of the story.
