Recommends it for: all those unfamiliar with Christine Feehan's work or who've been burned by her Carpathians
Oh. My. God....This is the first thing that came to mind after I finished this book. Well, this and hot damn.

I started reading this one with a hefty dose of skepticism. The Leopard Series is the least favorite of mine, but I quickly had to rethink my position.

I must admit I didn't particularly like the hero, Jake Bannaconni, at the beginning, no matter the rather detailed explanation for his actions and behavior the author offered us in snippets cut from the boy's childho...more

Recommends it for: Christine Feehan fans, fans of dominant heroes, fans of shapeshifter romance
Jake Bannaconni is a leopard shapeshifter who lives to acquire enough money and power to take down his evil parents and their friends. He was badly abused as a child but survived by dreaming of the day he destroys their lives. At the age of 33, he has acquired a lot of money and power but feels like he is still missing something. He is going to be a father soon after being tricked by his enemy's daughter. She is in a car accident that claims her life but the medics are able to save his son. The ...more

This was a good book. The reason why I did not give it a 5 star rating was that Jake and Emma took too long to become a couple. Also the end was "unfinished" for me. I would have liked to know that Drake was okay and that they did get married, put their lives together, had a HEA( I really am not asking much here***). Why does the bad guys always have to win more battles than the good guys, it would have been nice if the good guys had more of a victory, there was not much of a victory a...more

Romance is not my genre but I've ended up with a number of them on my shelves so decided to join froggie66's Romance VBB. This particular book was obtained through a wrap it up book box.
What you have here are Jake and Emma: near the brink, on the brink, on the brink of the brink, over the brink - etc.
Jake is a billionare man/leopard shapeshifter. He has two of the worst parents, he is a brilliant, ruthless but damaged individual.
Emma is a newlywed, newly pregnant, when her car col...more

I tried reading CF's Carpathian books but got so annoyed that I couldn't finish any of them. Ditto to the Drake sisters series. I managed to get through her first Ghostwalker book (though it did take more ore then 2 weeks), but couldn't finish the book after that.

I'm not sure if my expectations were too high or what, but until I read Burning Wild I didn't really get the Feehan Fervor. Now that I've read this one, I totally get it. What surprises me are the number of bad reviews I...more

This was classic Feehan. I liked the book. When you started out reading you instantly feel sorry for Jake and the way he was brought up. Some people should just be spaded and neutered at puberty. He was handed a raw deal, and dealt with it the only way he knew how. Somehow he managed to learn right from wrong and not become like the people who raised him. I loved watching him interact with Emma and slowly start to learn how people really are. The initial scenes with Kyle as a baby were fu...more

Jake Bannaconni was made for a specific reason. When his parents discovered he was nothing more than a “rat” and not their perfect mutated shifter they abused him like no tomorrow. For years Jake planned his revenge with a single mindedness that won him the reputation of being cold, calculating and cunning.

Along the way Jake has made some brutal "enemies" when he finds himself a single father. Having barricaded his heart from feeling anything Jake hasn't a clue how to raise...more

Jake Bannaconni was born because his wealthy, influential parents, descended of a corrupted bloodline of leopard people, wanted a leopard shifter for a son. When he's born runty, his parents instantly assume he's worthless and despise him, raising him without an ounce of love and affection, abusing him physically and emotionally. Yet all the time he keeps quiet, learns and watches and waits for the day when he can take them down. He lives only for revenge, keeping his leopard half secret from th...more

This is my favourite Christine Feehan book!

I loved the story line of this book. The leopard people were really interesting. Jake's back story was really heart-breaking, but it helped the plot a lot. It was really depressing, but realistic.

The hero and heroine meet after a tragic accident kills our heroine's husband. It was really sad how Jake could not understand the love that Emma had for her husband. The emotional growth during the book make it more then just some silly romance.

And the actio...more

As you all should know by now, I have been a Christine Feehan fan for at least 10 years, if not longer. I’ve read everything the woman has written and I plan to keep doing the same.

With that said, Burning Wild, was how can I say... HOT. This book is part of her Leopard Series or more like an introduction really - since the first two stories in the series were short stories in books that she shares with other authors. Jake Bannaconni is a cold, revenge driven man who likes to take ac...more

Jake Bannaconni...dual- man & leopard aka the other... are the separate or the same... that is his dilemna - he struggles to keep them separate, but learns to intertwine the two under the tutelage of Emma Reynolds... abused growing up by sadistic parents (the enemies) who were disappointed because they did not think he was what they wanted - a shapeshifter that they could grow to thier benefit... he becomes a good man in spite of them... but one who grabs for control...

This book is just baffling. It's well enough written to be quite readable, but I can only conclude I am very much not its target demographic. I kept on coming to scenes whose purpose was perfectly obvious, and which affected me in a way totally orthogonal to that purpose.

For example: this book's very first scene begins from the point of view of our hero as a fetus. (My reaction: O.o) Then he is expelled from his warm home, and hears his mother greet his appearance with horror, as...more

Let me preface my review by saying that the first paranormal romance I ever read was Dark Desire by Christine Feehan. Before that book I was not too interested in vampires as sexual creatures. It goes almost without saying that my feelings quickly changed. Although there have been some repetitiousness in Feehan's recent work she is still an auto buy for me. Burning Wild did not change that.

Characters: The main characters were well fleshed out and their motives were believable. Emma w...more

I liked this book. It made me realize how far gone I am with regards to love scenes and "dark pasts" in romance novels. I read through the reviews and anticipated that this book would be all about S&M and abuse, etcetera (so they say) but the guy is actually NICE. Nicer than any Judith McNaught character that I've been introduced to, that's for sure. What I really craved was the satisfying crack of a whiplash from the female protagonist after the male protagonist fucks up. The res...more

Hmmm... I'll start by saying that if this is your first attempt at Feehan, beware that it's VERY D/s oriented. If you don't know what D/s is, don't start with this book. Along those lines, I would also caution women who have had abusive pasts in reading this book. It glorifies extremely controlling men and in reality, if you ever meet a man like this... run like h*ll!!

The early part of the book focuses on Jake's extremely abusive past and the rest is about his inability to connect, l...more

I decided to read some Feehan because I hear about her a lot working at the bookstore. But MY GOD PEOPLE. MY GOD. I have read quite a few romance novels in my day and I cannot remember the last time I was quite this horrified. The sex scenes were graphic enough that I felt like clutching my pearls, but what transpired during them was less horrifying than that they basically amounted to rape, since her mouth kept saying "no" but her body kept saying "yes". (So hey, that makes ...more

I read all of Christine Feehan's book and I love her worlds and her characters. Burning Wild was one of the best of hers I read in sometime. So good that I read it in 24 hours. What I loved about the characters were they were flawed. Jake was very flawed and thought he was incapable of love yet longed for it. He went through some horrible things as a child and yet came out stronger, creating a 'family' to fill a need he didn't even realize he had. Emma was wonderfully loving and gentle but by no...more

I don't ordinarily read paranormal romance. However, this one showed up in a bag of freebie books at the office and I figured I would give it a shot.

Surprisingly, Feehan's "leopard people" are pretty sympathetic and interesting characters. In this story, Jake (who is abused by his parents as a child ... may be triggering scenes for some) vows to get revenge upon them using his financial acumen. He's fairly successful, of course, but keeps everyone at arm's length so that...more

I always love a good read by Christine Feehan, and Burning Wild was that. The one thing I don't really care for in her books is that she has a habit of repeating herself throughout the book. The beginning of this book is hard to get through, not because it was badly written, but because of the subject matter. Once you get past it the book moves quickly. Jake Bunnaconni had a horrible childhood and really didn't start to live until her met Emma Reynolds. Together they are a perfect match. Emma he...more

This book took me on an emotional roller coaster. At first my heart bled for Jake, just reading about the abuse he endured from his parents made me want to cry.His entire childhood was taken from him by the ones who was supposed to protect him.I wept tears of joy for him when he was able to leave his parents house, thanks to his great-grandfather.As he got older and more demanding I found myself mad at him alot.Especially when he took over Emma's life and wanted her to do everything he said.He was...more

I may have to lay off Feehan for a while. Lately, I have been in a non-angsty kind of mood, so this didn't really work for me. The hero was...TOO intense, which is saying a lot because I generally find brooding men with scars (literally and figuratively) quite sexy. But Jake, not so much. And the sex scenes were painful to read. Painful, I tell you. I felt abused, degraded, and humiliated just for reading them.
And don't even get me started on Jake's parents. Those two made Joan Cra...more

Bad guys. Sexual heat. Mating rights. Extreme child abuse. Manipluation. Revenge.

A Leopard shapeshifting novel by Christine Feehan. This novel takes place outside of the rainforest.

Although the story is adventurous and demanding, it takes off on a slow incline that becomes well worth the read.

Jake Bannaconni was severely abused as a child, both psychologically and physically. Just reading about his childhood sent shivers up my spine and rage boiling through...more

This story was so good until Emma went to live with Jake. I just cant get into a story where the man in the story can have sex with other women but yet he keeps the woman that he claims his at his house, so she cant go out to be able to have a life or sex life. Jake even tells Emma, yes he has sex with other women that he has needs. Well crap! what about hers? is she dead or something. All I can say is WHATEVER! Then one day Emma does go out on a date and he sees her and takes her away from the ...more

Ugh, I usually enjoy Feehan's shapeshifter stories but this one featured an ultra alpha male lead who was too cavemanish and calculating for my taste. I mean he loved his kids because he knew it would impress his intended love interest, and spent time with them to let her see how caring he could be. Sure he eventually truly came to care for them, in his own stinted way, but this character's overall outlook and approach to life just turned me off. And yes I know he was damaged as a youth and had ...more

Okay, I did something I rarely did with this book - I didn't finish it. I tried, I really did, but there are just too many good books out there to waste reading a book I don't like. I really wanted to like this series - it's right up my alley in the paranormal and sex world, but I did not like the characters. The first novella was the best, and it was all downhill from there.

My biggest problem with this book is that the hero is an ass. Feehan tries to build up the 'he had a rou...more

Wow, what an expected gem. I was hooked from the first page. The story is very intense and heart breaking with a fast pace. Jake is a great lead, strong, possessive, and modern. Finally no male hair from the '80s. Emma is also very real and so loving. What made this story more "believable" was that it took place over two years. The author built the friendship first yet there was also a sense of intimacy. what's also interesting is that these books could easily stand alone. Previous c...more

A badly written book with a sick plot about unlikeable people. Take (very) thinly disguised porn, add a touch of bondage, some painful, coersive sex (hey, doesn't No mean No?), and throw in several disturbing scenes of the physical abuse of a toddler and you get a veritable stew of nastiness with no redeeming value. As the crowning touch, the lead character - I refuse to call him "the hero" - travels up the Amazon to Borneo! One word, Ms Feehan----ATLAS!!

"hot damn." Those are my first thoughts after completing this book. The sex scenes in this story were wicked intense. I will say that some of the plot and dialog had the makings of an abusive relationship which was a bit awkward to like in a romance. Jake took the dominating thing a bit over the top and I really didn't like him until the last 4 or 5 chapters. Emma, sweet loving Emma, I just LOVED her! I really did like this story and I thought it was done well. I wouldn't change anythi...more

Hot! Great Read. Wonderful ending and shows human growth. Yes, Christine Feehan has done it to me again. Once I picked up "Burning Wild", I couldn't put it down until the book was finished; and at 443 reading pages, that was several days that I spent living in her world with her characters. I loved it. YES, the hero is about as Alpha as they come and I can already hear some of the vitriol she'll no doubt receive regarding one particular sex scene...but hey! It's her world! She can do w...more
