Talk about out of the frying pan, into the fire! I was pretty sure that my freaky stepsister and that freaky field guide of hers would ruin my life. But now it looks like they're going to ruin all of Florida, too! Okay, maybe that's not fair. Maybe all these stupid giants would be waking up anyway, but if it wasn't for her and that book, I'd be home playing video games and ...more

I don't plan to go into great detail about the storyline, because I'm a firm believer that a story can only be truly reviewed by a person's impression of the story. I think it would be a waste of time to go over the plot again...that's what the title page of the book is for.

Ok, there is so much to talk about!!! The Nixies are crazy, the mermaids are way meaner than I anticipated, and basically everything is going crazy!! These poor kids!! And Nick is so freaking conflicted about everything, the

I liked this book it is the second book I have read of Spider Wick and I would like to read the third one it was really interesting how they had to make the Giants listen to the mermaids sing. They had to give the mermaids a fish so that they could sing for the giants. The Giants crashing up Nick's house so that they had to stay in a hotel. Jack leaving with his son to another place because he got hurt by a Giant so his son decided to take him where he lives. They had to go and steal the fish fr ...more

So this middle book in the three-part "Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles" series ostensibly tries really hard to improve on the first one, and to broaden and expand the scope of the characters and plot, but in the end it just falls flat. Story-wise, basically there are giants wreaking havoc all over Florida, and it's up to a group of step-siblings (plus or minus a girlfriend or a trio of recalls from other series) to figure out how to get rid of them.

The authors thankfully managed to keep themsel

What a delightful book this is. This was the first book I’ve read in the Spiderwick Chronicles and I quickly found myself immersed in the story of Nicholas Vargas and his sister, Laurie. Add to this Noseeum Jack, a humorous character with a huge walking stick, a sharp machete and lots of advice on tracking giants.

I fell in love with the mischievous and voracious hobgoblin Sandspur and allowed myself to drift away on the magical songs sung by the wise, but tricky, Merpeople. Although Nick seemin

The second novel in the Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles trilogy. Literally Nick and Laurie have a giant problem, with giants. These creatures are tearing up destruction everywhere they turn. The next thing they know the giants are knocking down the house they live in. Nick takes it upon himself to try and fix this problem. Both him and Laurie, with the help of Nick’s older brother, Jules and his girlfriend Cindy, the four of them take down the giants. But was that for the best? The novel ends o ...more

The continuation of The Nixie's Song, the second book in th beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles. Nick and Laurie have a Giant Problem on their hands, literally. It they don't do something, then Florida could be burnt to the ground!

I admit, I had a good time reading this book as it was a very fun adventure following these kids in their attempts to save the world from Giants and other fairy problems. Not to mention it was quick. I liked the fairies in the book and how they were discovered, but it fe

This is the second book in the Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles series by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. Our youngest and I really enjoyed the original series, The Spiderwick Chronicles - they were fun, dramatic, and fast reads. So I really looked forward to this next tale.

Once again, the story is a serial tale set in three different books, the first two with cliffhangers that leave you eager to move to the next. They are very similar in tone and format to the first series, but this time we al

Beyond The Spiderwick Chronicles a Giant Problem is written by Toni DiTerlizzi and Holly Black
The main characters are Nick and Laurie.
In the beginning Noseeum Jack finds Laurie and Nick and warns them about how the Giants are waking up. They devise a plan to lure the Giants to the ocean with the Mermaid's song so that they can't hurt anyone.
The conflict is that the Giants are waking up and wreaking havoc like for example the giants destroyed Nick and Laurie's house. In the

1. So, like, when the giants are stomping through the city behind the car, what does that look like to people without the Sight? An earthquake?
2. So many layers of trouble! They still haven't found Taloa's sisters. They still may have giants on their hands. Now there is something worse than the giants about to attack. Dragons? And they are all in trouble with their parents.
3. I usually don't care about cussing in books but because these are for such younger kids I don't like that they used "hell

chose to read it for my second book report. I chose to not read it for my book report
because _it didn't really even resemble the movie of the spider wick__. Another reason I chose to not

I had a giant problem with this book. And it's ALL my fault. But how was I to know there was a "Beyond The Spiderwick Chronicles" as well as a "The Spiderwick Chronicles"?? I picked up books 1 and 2 at my library...not realising they were TWO DIFFERENT SERIES. I spent the entire time reading this book thinking, "Huh? Who the heck are these people? Where are Jared/Simon/Mallory? What's going on?" And feeling really stupid, because I assumed all the nine-year-olds of the world who read it would kn ...more

This book is absolutely amazing. I can barely contain my awe. I am so glad that Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black wrote Beyond the Spiderwick Cronicles. I love Tony's illustrations, they are wonderful and extremly lifelike. I can't say which book I love more, The Nixie's Song or A Giant Problem. They were both extremly clever and well-written and exciting and breathtaking. I really liked that some of the people and all of of the places were real.

This book continues the problems of Nicholas and Laurie Vargas when they find out that the mythical giants are now waking up and are going to cause the destruction of Florida by burning everything up. As the family is living in a hotel because their house was burned by one of the giants, they find a giant hunter named Jack who tries to train them against the giants. They find a way of getting rid of the giants on the land by luring them to the ocean. They do this by getting a different fish for ...more

This book was really good I liked it. This story is about a sister and a brother that fight giants and other monsters. The brothers name is Nick he is a kind of boy that likes to play video games a lot. The sisters name is Laurie she loves to be around the faries and other monster and things. They have a friend that taught them every thing about the creaters and he is my favorite character in the story his name is Jack. The reason is that I dont rate this book all the way is that in the first on ...more

The story was pretty good, maybe not quite as good as the original series, but entertaining nonetheless. I'm still not happy with some of the more negative elements of the story, like the lying and killing/hunting giants, but I'm still holding out hope that these issues will be resolved in a positive manner. I just wish it could be resolved in one book rather than spread across three books, leaving the impression that these things are acceptable throughout most of the overall story.

This is the tale of Noseemum Jack, an elderly, now blind destroyer of giants, who along with Nick, his brother, Jules, their stepsister, Laurie, and Jules' girlfriend, Cindy set out to find and destroy the giants that are about to wake up and cause mass devastation.

Not just about giants though, the story also tells of the part several other mythological creatures have to play and quite frankly it is their part that I found far more interesting.

Intended for those aged 7+ I chose to read this for

Nick Vargas and his stepsister Laurie are the main characters once again. Older brother Jules helps out some this time. You will need to have read book 1, Nixie's Song, before reading this book. There is no explanation to catch you up on what happened in book 1. Actually, having waited a while for the book to come in, it took me a couple pages to remember and figure out what was going on. If you are hoping for a connection to the Grace family you won't find it until the very end (as in the last ...more

This book is FAR better than the first one and starts right where book 1 leaves off. The one down side of reading a series and writing this review for books 1 and 2 while on book 3 is that I'm having to be very careful I don't get what happens in one book mixed up with another. One of the nice things here is that Nick, Laurie, and Jules get more fleshed out as characters.

By the end of the book I really CARED about them. Here the trio learn about the giants from Noseeum Jack and eventually have

I will confess that I enjoy reading young adult fiction and even chapter books. There is something about the creativity when combined with the illustrations that I find enjoyable and entertaining. They are super quick reads and a great way to sort of cleanse your mental pallet.

One such series I have enjoyed is The Spiderwick Chronicles. The five books in that series were a hit and they even made a movie based on the story. Rather than keep that series going, however, author illustrator combo Hol

This is the second book in the follow-up to the Spiderwick Chronicles; Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles. I liked it better than the first book. I began to emphathize with the characters a bit more. It was much more interesting than the first book. Unlike the first book, this book left the story in a decent place. The main point of the book is wrapped up, yet there is a little catch at the end that leads you to the third book. The book is well-written and the drawings are again excellent. Still i ...more

Just when I thought this series could not get any better, man does it ever. The Vargas kids are back in a mess with fantastical creatures. The Giants, as predicted, are indeed waking up and as they fight for territory they are leaving a swath of destruction behind them. Jarod and Laurie are not on their own this time; Laurie tricked their older brother into carrying around a 4 leaf clover, and now he can see the creatures also. But they don't believe the adults will believe them, and they need t ...more

I think this might have been the best book I've read out of the seven I've read so far from the Spiderwick world. Okay listened to, not really read but it's the same story. That ending!!! WOW! The action is definitely intense in this second novel of Beyond The Spiderwick Chronicles. I could really gush about this one for a while, but I'm honestly more interested in seeing how this all turns out. Highly recommended.

Although I enjoyed the Spiderwick Chronicles (mainly for their illustrations and because I enjoy Holly Black), I wasn't exactly hooked. I stuck with the series because they were such easy, breezy and fun reads, but I wouldn't say I loved them. So when a second series was released, I got bored and decided to pick it up.

I picked this one up at the library thinking it was book 2 of the Spiderwick Chronicles, but it's not. It's a tie-in series with different characters. It was another entertaining read & even though I read it out of order, I was still able to follow the story.
