OH MY FREAKING GOD, I LOVED THIS BOOK! It has the perfect mix of romance, action, and the paranormal world to make this a really brilliant read for me.

After my disappointment with the last book I read in Adrain's Breedmate series, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go on. However, Tegan's character intrigued me from the get go so I couldn't let his book go unread.

Apart from the beginning and the very end, this book bored me and left me frustrated. The author’s style does not suit me. She is quite wordy and uses a lot of narrative. I wanted more dialogue and more action. The author also spent too much time on past protagonist pair-ups. I did not need the level of detail she gave on how they got together. It would’ve been sufficient to say "this is what’s his name and what’s his name’s girlfriend with X superpower."

Out of the three novels, I can't decide which I liked more. If forced to choose, however, I'd have to say this one is my favourite... so far.

More excellent actions scenes that have you holding your breath. More erotic sex scenes that leave you just as breathless as the characters...

I'm so unbelievably happy for Tegan and Elise, happy that they found each other, happy that they found the love that was lacking. After all they'd been through, they so deserve each other.

(Midnight Breed,#3) The relationship between hardcore Breed warrior Tegan and beautiful Darkhaven widow Elise Chase was steamy and compelling, stemming from admiration and common purpose. I loved Elise’s transformation from composed and gentle to tough and vengeful. The story is nicely done, very suspenseful, and seems to lead the series in a new direction. Great ending!

This is the best of the series so far (and I must say that I'm not over-enthusiastic about this series).

I really like the ending and I think what happened is an interesting development, plus we meet Reichen, who is a very fascinating character. This is the 3rd book in the Midnight Breed series and I have liked this one the best so far. Tegan is an old vampire, a generation one. Elise is the formaer Breedmate to a Darkhaven breed who was killed. He son was killed in the last book, "Kiss of Crimson". Just the interaction as Tegan and Elise fight their feelings for one another is great. Now off to reaad Number4

It's official. I love the Breed! After finding the previous two books a little lacking it was so satisfying to see Adrian finally hit it out of the park with Tegan and Elise. The couple is matched perfectly. Both of them have lost mates due to the war with the Rogues. Most recently, Elise also lost her son to the drug Crimson. They know pain loss and Tegan especially understands Elise's need to kill as many Minions as she can. He's been filled with the same need for the past five hundred years.

I’m still feeling the heat from Midnight Awakening, the third novel in Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. The plot for this book was set up in the previous novel, Kiss of Crimson, resulting in a seamless transition from one book to the next. The characters had already been introduced, and the intensity between them was present immediately. It took very little time for the direction of the novel and the atmosphere between the many characters to be established, and suspense and excitement were built rapidly in the continuing inter-novel plot and the relationship plot. The last third of the novel had some thrilling revelations that upped my expectations for the whole series. I think there are some very promising events to come.

Based on the previous novels, Tegan is portrayed as a detached man – vampire – who feels nothing for anyone, not even himself. We learn that he has endured great emotional pain in the past because of a shattering loss, and it appears that as a result he is incapable of emotion at all. Every paranormal series has a character like Tegan. You know, the damaged guy that everyone else thinks is a heartless, cruel, dangerous jerk, but there is that one woman who can reach him. Despite the fact that it’s all pretty formula and cliché, that type of character is usually my favorite. Tegan is no exception. I realize this probably says a lot about me and women in general, but let’s not turn this into an exploration of the female brain. Elise is a very determined character. I even want to say that she is strong despite her internal struggles and need for help. Sometimes it takes a lot of strength to ask for help when you need it, right? I really liked her, and I approved of her with Tegan. They fit together well. Tegan and Elise’s character development during the novel was just as satisfying as the twists in plot were! Plus, the intimate scenes were blisteringly hot!

Midnight Awakening is the perfect addition to any paranormal junkie’s shelf, but I urge readers to read the series in the right order for maximum enjoyment!(less)

I liked this one a little more than the two previous coz there
was more action , but there's still something missing for me.
Maybe it's because I find it difficult to really become attached
to the characters. I think it's coz they don't seem
tortuous or bad or sweet enough for me. And the romance , at some
point , is not as intense as I'm used to (I really try to not compare
with the BDB or others paranormal romance) and I find it hard to believe in the feelings , they doesn't seem real enough for me...more

This is definitely my favorite installment of the Midnight Breed series thus far. Tegan and Elise had great chemistry and interesting back story which really made the story interesting and set it apart from the previous books. I wasn’t sure I would like Elise after Kiss of Crimson as she just seemed entirely too reserved. She breaks out of her shell in this book and makes a great match for Tegan, whose evolution as a character was interesting, emotional and credible.

I loved the first 2 books of this series but I loved this one even more.
Tegan and Elise's story is thrilling. Tegan was a character that already intrigued me in the 2 previous books. The dark loner who kept everyone at a save distance... only someone as sweet and caring as Elise could break that solid wall around the powerfull warior.

In questo la Adrian ha svolto un buon lavoro perché Tegan rimane fedele alla sua tipologia di eroe tormentato ma si evolve un pochino man mano che si sviluppa la storia. E' naturale che il suo attaccamento a Elise sia un pò meccanico: lei è una Compagna della Stirpe che gli sta addosso ogni volta che può e lui è in astinenza dal Mesozoico, per cui la frittata è praticamente scontata, però c'è da dire che l'autrice ha saputo giostrarsi bene tra l'inevitabilità del lieto fine e l'aspetto 'tormentato' della love story. Non c'è esagerazione in senso buono o cattivo, e la loro relazione si sviluppa con la trama. Elise, invece, è apparsa nel romanzo prima come una specie di reclusa innocente (o ritardata, lo sembrava davvero) che si trasforma nel suo romanzo in un giustiziere della notte. La cosa che mi è piaciuta è che l'autrice ha voluto far diventare forte un personaggio debole, facendola uccidere e vivere una realtà violenta, mantendendo però il suo lato 'debole' attraverso la sua capacità di leggere i pensieri negativi degli umani - cosa che non viene detta prima e che spiega la sua reclusione. I due personaggi si uniscono nella lotta contro i Ribelli, Tegan perché è ormai il suo unico scopo nella vita, e Elise per sete di vendetta. La convivenza forzata li porta a diventare coppia non-coppia, perché Tegan si affeziona a lei e la vuole proteggere mentre Elise semplicemente si innamora. Un'altro aspetto positivo è che un blocco importante della trama si compie e si conclude. Ora, dal quarto romanzo, ci sarà sicuramente un nuovo antagonista. Vedremo. In conclusione, questo è - secondo me - il migliore romanzo della serie fino ad ora. Non mi ha fulminata come alcuni romanzi hanno fatto, ma mi è piaciuto molto. Vampiri come discendenti degli Alieni, sembra paradossale eppure la Adrian è riuscita a creare un'ottima idea di partenza su cui far sviluppare la sua Società di Vampiri.

Tegan è un personaggio tormentato, chiuso e freddo come l'acciaio. Ferisce il prossimo con parole travestite da "Verità" per il semplice motivo che non vuole che gli altri si aspettino alcunché da lui. Non vuole deludere gli altri o semplicemente non è interessato a preoccuparsi di chi gli sta intorno perché, se dovesse fallire, finirebbe farli soffrire e soffrire di rimando. Si protegge dagli altri semplicemente trattandoli con indifferenza e turbandoli come e quando può, il che è perfettamente logico per quanto "illogico".

Elise è una donna forte, testarda e ferita dalla vita che le ha portato via il suo compagno cinque anni prima e poi, come se non bastasse, il figlio caduto nelle trame dei Ribelli. E quando una donna, una madre, è ferita e furiosa tutto quello che può far per non finire distrutta e combattere, anche a costo di distruggersi. E' quello che decide di fare, lo promette alla memoria di suo figlio.

Sarà in questo contesto che i due si incontreranno e il loro rapporto non sarà niente affatto facile entrambi presi dai loro fantasmi e dalle loro guerre personali. Anche se dobbiamo dare atto a Elise di maggior coerenza e coraggio rispetto al vampiro Tegan, se non altro in ambito sentimentale.

Una storia d'amore ben scritta, graduale e condita da una bella dose di azione che vede protagonista, per una volta, anche la stessa Elise che non si lascia certo mettere in panchina dal suo Forse-Compagno.

Come abbiamo costatato nel romanzo precedente di volta in volta viene presentato, almeno a grandi linee, chi sarà il prossimo membro dell'Ordine che dovrò affrontare una "Compagna di Stirpe" e in questo caso, quasi sicuramente, nel prossimo libro dovremo vedercela con il povero Rio. Ferito nel corpo e nello spirito dal tradimento della sua compagna Rio per il momento è affidato alle mani terapeutiche di Tess, la compagna di Dante, ma è evidente che per l'anima i poteri di Tess non sono e non saranno sufficienti. Non ci resta che attendere il prossimo capitolo di questa saga!

Alright this series is showing some very big improvements and hopefully it will stay on track. If my daughter is right this series will turn into a good addition to our library (she just finished book 11). I enjoyed this book better that the last. The book starts with Elise Chase, who had lost her husband and in book 2 lost her son to a crimson overdose (a human recreational drug that induces the vampire into turning rouge almost immediately) and had to be killed by Chase, who now is a warrior for the Breed. She is discovered by Tegan (Breed warrior) and then had to be rescued by him when Rouges come after her because she stole a journal from Marek who is the Master vampire plotting world domination (typical!!!).

The action in this book is good and very much relevant to the story and seems to have a better balance with the romance going on with the two main characters. Tegan is tall, dark and brooding (my favorite kind) and has a tortured past that he must overcome in order to move forward. I must say I liked him instantly but I was not happy about Elise. She seemed a bit weak and her sense of judgment is a little lacking. How do you carry a vengeance and have to many holes in the plan only so you don’t feel useless and can avenge your son. But thankfully she improves greatly and at the end I thought she was good for Tegan.

Villains meet their demise but a new evil will rise to give the Breed even more trouble. Secondary character are really developing and getting more interesting. I still would like more interaction between the warriors since it still feels a little forced. The Breedmates are all coming together and I liked how the author is trying to incorporate them into the intrigue by having them use their gifts. Really why have all these psychic abilities if you don’t use them to help the cause.

Overall, again this book is opening a new chapter into the Breed and Rogue war and it will be interesting to see where it will all go. And this is the key for this book. I has to keep you interesting in order to continue the series. On to the next one!!!

Midnight Awakening is the third book in the Midnight Breed series. Even though it is a part of a series, and it is best read in order, if you happened upon this book and read it without knowing of the first two books, you would be able to follow the story and enjoy it well enough.

So far my favorite. Elise's story is gut-wrenching and Tegan is the only one who can truly understand her heartache. He is the most intense of the breed aside from Rio and it was nice to see a glimpse into the heart of him..GREAT read!

Okay , its been a while since i had read this but i'ma do a review-ish type thing anyway .
I fuckin loved this book , that's without thought . I was sort of afraid to read this because , i mean , HELLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ! TEGAN IS MY BABY !!! Breedmates-the rare human women who can produce children with vampires- dont go out doing any of the warrior stuff *sigh* so you can imagine how stunned I was, when we encounter the heroine,Elise, a widow,formerly a high society Darkhavens resident, out and about tracking and killing baddies on her own using her telepathic powers to sniff them out, with a massive knife!Because she's seeking revenge after loosing her only son to a drug that turned him rogue. And she's done the whole cut-off-her-hair-and-get-weapons-and-swear-a-vow shit you usually get in Chinese martial arts films. I was half expecting to get a training montage...ok sorry, went off track there!
Elise has offed at least a dozen baddies.Society Mom has turned stone cold killer!

So, Elise bumps into this series Mr BAMF, Tegan. Cold, ruthless, vicious killer of rogues, often does the solo assassin shit etc etc.He's spent 500 years indifferent to everyone, training himself to feel no emotion, just wants to be a killing machine, etc etc.

So, of course, the writer just has to match these two up.

They but heads. ALOT. Elise- in her genteel way throws down on Tegan, and says the (posh) version of 'Bring it, bitch!' and he's shocked, because no one usually speaks to a 6 foot five, 900 year old, armed to the teeth, 'My Middle Name Is Pain!' vampire like that.So of course, he has to help her, and they fall in love, but she remains badass throughout, including in the big final action scene! Where she rescues him, continuing to kick ass!

So, ladies & gentlemen...Lets hear it for Elise.

Terzo volume della serie Midnight Breed. Vorrei esordire dicendo che questa saga mi piace sempre di più. La Adrian è riuscita a creare un mondo di guerrieri legati con vincoli di fratellanza se non al pari della Ward,molto vicino. Stavolta la protagonista della storia non è tanto il personaggio maschile,quanto quello femminile. Elise. E’ una donna profondamente addolorata per la perdita del figlio e usa questo suo sentimento per vendicarsi di che le ha tolto la sua fonte di gioia. Ma è un’arma a doppio taglio perché l’odio lentamente la sfinisce e la divora. Non è una figura fragile come si può pensare,ma comunque sola. Tegan è un vampiro freddo e solitario,un antichissimo Gen Uno. Grande e potente combattente. Anche lui come Elise è stato privato della sua ragione di vita,la sua Compagna della stirpe e quindi la vendetta ora è l’unica cosa che sente di dover portare avanti. Tegan ed Elise sono quindi due anime tormentate che si incontrano in un mondo dove la speranza è una flebile fiammella esposta al gelido vento dei Ribelli. La loro alleanza sarà difficile da instaurare ,infatti in un primo momento Tegan si rifiuta,ma quando si rende conto che Elise non controlla il suo potere e che questo la sta uccidendo allora cede. Ma cedere comporta un sacrificio. Un’unione portata avanti con il sangue che alla fine creerà qualcosa di non cercato dalla parte di entrambi. Il desiderio cresce in spire potenti e momenti di tensione sessuale costellano buona parte delle pagine di questo romanzo,fino a quando ad entrambi non rimarrà che dare sfogo a ciò che il loro corpo chiede. Non è solo un libro ricco di azione,passione , amore, mistero e tenerezza “Il calore del suo bacio fu come una fiamma,che accese il freddo spazio nel petto di Tegan. Lui asciò scorrere le dita fra i corti capelli serici sulla sua nuca,tenendola contro si sé mentre faceva scivolare la lingua lungo il solco delle sue labbra”. Verrà trovato un libro di proprietà di Marik(comandante dei Ribelli)scritto in una lingua difficile da decifrare che causerà l’intervento di personaggi dei libri precedenti e futuri. Molte domande troveranno una risposta e rimarrà un dubbio … insieme a Marik c’è qualcun altro che minaccia il mondo di questi temerari guerrieri?

This story was just as engrossing as the previous two. There is once more that perfect mix of the larger, on-going plot that follows through each story and then the individual tale of Breedmale warriors in each book.

The story of The Breed, The Order, The Ancients, The Rogues and the fight to protect humanity runs through each book. The action is fast, fierce, bloody and sometimes devastating when people lose loved ones. The Warriors are fierce Breedmales. Their reputation has been built upon and despite the good that they do, the self-sacrifice and honour … they are regarded with suspicion and caution. They are huge, gorgeous, sexy and wild. Dangerous, passionate and every inch the dominating male.

Tegan is a consummate Warrior. He is also a loner. A powerful Gen One. Even his comrades treat him with caution and respect. He loved once, only to have his mate tortured and raped. She’d been brutally treated and returned fit only for a merciful death. He’d vowed never to give his heart again.

Elise is also a shell of her previous self. She has led a protected and sheltered life in the Darkhavens, mixing only with the most refined and genteel of her kind. However, the death of her mate and then her teenage son, has left her reeling and looking for revenge.

Tegan and Elise have both loved and lost. Both on a mission to rid the world of rogues and minions. Both trying desperately to protect their hearts from any more pain.

Perfect for each other!

I found Tegan a really attractive character. He was like a wounded lion, roaring at anyone that got too close. He was part of the Order and yet not a cohesive unit like the others. He was too afraid to form any kind of relationship, even friendship. His emotional protective walls had been carefully constructed over centuries. He was a dangerous, avenging angel, swooping down on evil and leaving ash in his wake. A hard, invincible shell wrapped in a gorgeous package and with a well-hidden, tender, kind heart. What woman could resist that?

This is a wonderful series and I look forward to reading the next book. (less)

This was the third book in the Midnight Breed series and was the most intense one so far when it comes to the relationship between the hero and the heroine. There was the usual action and plot twists, but it was secondary to the romance that by the very nature and circumstances of the individuals was fraught with difficulties.

Tegan's revelation on his irrefutable necessity came to light upon discovering that Elise was about to be killed & taken away from his grasp by another male. Tegan confronts Elise in her bedroom after he has bared witness to a kiss she received by the other male. Tegan loses control of the layers of wall he has constructed over his heart for all of these years. Once those thick boulders come crashing down, so does the ability & tight hold he has on his emotions, lustful desires, & yearnful attraction towards Elise. Staking his claim within her & sealing their irrevocable fate forever.

Lara Adrian writing of the Breed Series is an undeniable sexually gratifiying romance, action, suspense/thiller. To claim which one of the books is my favorite would be an understatement. Each one depicts it's own scenario to a common valor of humankind. With it's Breed Warriors of the Order & Breedmates to possess pure acclaimed attributions to one another is much to be desired for. This series is beyond excellence, and I cannot wait to come to it's conculsion to the fate of the Breed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DESERVES WELL BEYOND THE 5 STAR RATING!(less)

This book, like the two previous, follows a member of the Order and the human female who is destined to be his Mate. What sets the heroine apart in this book is that she is already part of Tegan's world, a widowed Breedmate, Elise Chase. Elise has lost both her husband and son to Rouges, and has vowed to do all she can to ensure their lives were not ended in vain. Emotionally closed off to the world, she moves out of the Darkhaven and ventures into humanity to do her part in avenging their death...more This book, like the two previous, follows a member of the Order and the human female who is destined to be his Mate. Tegan continues to live his solitary existence. His only mission in life is to kill Rouges and protect civilian vampires and humans alike. Much like Elise, Tegan has also cut himself off from all emotion. Still wracked with guilt 500 years after losing his mate to the Rogues, he exists in an emotional void, not even letting in the men who fight beside him each day. In the end, this book is a story about letting go of loss and learning to trust again.

Elise developed into a surprisingly strong heroine. From her pampered, sheltered beginnings of the wife of a very powerful member of the Enforcement Agency, she grows into a strong, confident woman that made the perfect match to Tegan. She is able to stand up to his anger, not letting him scare her into running away. I really admired her tenacity and wit against such a formidable and unfeeling warrior like Tegan. She tackled his icy heart in much same way as she pursued her need for justice against the senseless deaths of her husband and son.

Tegan's path towards love and acceptance in this book was a beautiful journey. He was so closed off in the beginning,unwilling to forgive himself for not saving his Mate and resolved never to let anyone in his heart again. Elise was able to knock down the wall he had built around himself a little at a time. By never giving up on him, and never giving in in the face of an argument, she proved to him that he was worthy of love.

Much of the romance aspect of this book sees the characters alternately wanting to be together and wanting to stay apart to protect themselves from the fragility that love can bring. These two drove me crazy at times; they fought so hard to protect their hearts that they actually ended up hurting themselves more. But, after they dropped the pretenses and admitted their feelings, it was made clear that Tegan and Elise balance each other, compliment each other, and make for an absolutely delicious read.

I think this is my favorite book of the series so far. I can see the improvement in Lara Adrian's writing in each book and it feels like she's really hitting her stride with this one. As I've said before, if you love the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, I urge you to give these a try.(less)
