I picked up this book because I agree with what I thought to be the author's premise that adolescents are capable of much more than they generally have the opportunity to demonstrate and that adolescents are, to their detriment,too strictly isolated into same-age peer groups. However, many of Dr. Epstein's arguments are laughably offensive. Using notorious cases of adult/teen statuatory rape is not an effective way to promote the concept that teens are capable of mature sexual relationships! ...more

This book put into words a lot of theories I've held privately for years: western society, in particular America, infantalizes teenagers and they're actually a lot more mature than most people could ever know.
