Marriage --for possession... or passion?

Luciano Peretti may still be the handsome and hot-blooded man she fell for six years ago, but now Skye wants nothing to do with him! She can't forget Luc's rejection of her then, or how she refused his wicked family when they tried to bribe her to end her pregnancy. Since then, she's raised her son single-handedly--poverty-stricken

I get that he was lied to by family that he trusted,so the hero was not as hateful as most, but I'm so tired of authors just looking for excuses so they can have a "hero" sleep with other women while claiming to still have feelings for the heroine. If I had a dime for every time I heard one of these slime balls say "I thought of you every time I sunk my snake in another garden" or "I'm not a monk"....I'd have a lot of dimes. And of course, even thought she was betrayed and ditched like gunk he s ...more

This was truly an incredible read...and made me realize, once again why I truly enjoy reading HP's. Luc and Skye were viciously separated years ago when his family tried to discredit her. Unfortunately she was pregnant with their son. The story opens with his brother confessing to Luc (on his deathbed) all the lies that he had committed to falsely accuse Skye. He also let him know that Skye had been pregnant with his child. Until this point, Luc did not even know he had a child. From there the s ...more

What sets this one apart is that for the majority of the book it's the hero and heroine against the world (or more specifically, against his family). Normally in the world of HP, the conflict is between the H/h. This book had a bit of that in the beginning and a few minor confrontations during the course of the book, but the majority was the couple united to protect their little family from the enmity of his family. Nice change of pace.

4 1/2 Stars! ~ Luc Perretti’s life is shattered for a second time when his brother, Roberto confesses on his deathbed that he’d betrayed him and that the evidence presented to Luc against the woman he loved had all been lies. To add another slash to his heart, Roberto confesses that it was their father who had been behind the deceit and that Luc needs to find Skye because she had been pregnant six years ago, and Luc may very well be a father. Seeing Luc waiting for her and her son, outside her m ...more

What can I say about this book?? *SIGH*, I don't know really, it was ok, nothing special, really Skye got on my last good nerve and Luc was a damned fool for blindly believing what turned out to be a lie without demanding an explanation. I don't think I'm having much luck with these "delinquent daddy" based books. The women are always ticking me off for either their childish behavior or because as soon as the father reappears, she's ridiculously head over heels hot in the panties ready for him. ...more

This one was different. It started when the hero finds out that he was lied to about the heroine sleeping around 6 years ago. The book takes place over the next 9 months as he persuades her to forgive him and to take a chance and marry him. It would have scored higher but the focus of the book was not really on their relationship but rather on the problems that they had as a couple with his father who was the one who broke them up and who would still not accept her as his son's wife. I did like ...more

I did not have much great expectations for this book. Both the cover and the title brought to my mind the worst of outdated romances from the 1980s, with weak brainless female lead, overbearing and tactless hero, a marriage of convenience plot which made no sense to me, etc.
I was very wrong.
The heroine was very normal and frankly nice and likeable. The hero was a strong man with decisive ideas, but he listened to his feelings and really wanted the best for his former beloved and child. He clear

I asked my sister-in-law for an Emma Darcy romance and she immediately whet to her keeper shelf and handed me this book with a very stern "Don't lose it, and I want it back in the condition you've received it!"

Well, I can certainly see why she's so protective of this one. This is a real gem and I'm going to check on eBay to see if I can get a copy for my own keeper shelf!

Great book all around. Heroine isn't a push over. Hero is horrified at his family. Great kid too!

I wanted to like this one but I couldn't. There was too much focus on plot outside of the relationship/romance and it was just a sad, depressing story. Even the ending fell flat. I mean come on hero lost 5 years of his son's life and the author ended the story with a wedding instead of H/h having another baby together. That would make the book less depressing at least.

This is why I love most Emma Darcy's books. Even when I don't agree with the decisions her lead characters make, I understand why they did. I can also feel their pain, as Darcy is amazing in making her readers feel the emotions of her characters - that is her biggest gift.

Skye was truly a saint.

What a lovely and refreshing tale! I have been reading Harlequin/Mills & Boon's romance novels for almost 30 years now and I have to confess this Emma Darcy novel has to be one of the best l have ever read.
The plot is believable. I come from a culture where your family and specifically your parents are more of the law rather than just your elders. My father's only sister never married because her parents (my grandparents) disapproved of her choice, she was not strong enough to defy her paren

Loved it!!

It was a happy ending. He messed up and he groveled a bit for her. He knew what he had done was hurtful to her and he had to build up her trust. I was satisfied with the effort he made to win her back. This is not a cheating book but a family that did not approve of his love for her, so they got rid of her. A deathbed confession and I was hooked. I was just going to read a chapter and go to sleep but finished the book.

i re-read this book often, as it really tugs at the heartstrings. the heroine has been sadly abandoned by her lover who was convinced by his family that she was cheating on him with his own brother. when he finds out the truth a few years later, he seeks out the heroine and seeks to make amends. the heroine doesn't just roll over and take him back immediately, but makes hero work for his redemption. great book!

It was going along just fine. He proves that she comes first by turning his back on his family (they broke them up through lies), then she decides that he really needs to make up with his family. After everything that the family did to her and to break them up/keep them apart - even after finding out she was pregnant - and she argues that he needs to give his family a chance.
That blew it for me.

It is still fresh in my mind that i used to love this kind of plot ("childhood lover" then for x reason, they separated), i only thought that this was true love.
However, after reading this book (this kinda plot actually) after maybe 2-3 years, my interests are not the same >.<
Sure, i still think it's true love but being married, then there's a reunion, that's better!

Wow, there is a reason I don't read romance novels, and here it is. If it wasn't a free e-book and if I hadn't run out of other books, I wouldn't have bothered. Totally lame, and not even any sex! The first ten pages or so were quite satisfying, like a soap opera in text form. Then it was just lots of moaning about marriage.

I liked this one. Heroine had a backbone, and hero actually had to work a little to earn her trust back. I liked the writing style, and the way the flow of the book--it put the story more on the believable side for me.

Doormat for a h. Should have run, not walked, away from that awful family. I finished reading it, but it was under duress. I really wanted to see Skye tell that bastard to go to hell. 1.5 stars.

Well, this book contain a simple-but-complex problems. However, it's a first time for me to enjoy at least one of romance novels.. So, it's must be a pretty good story to enjoy then..

i did not like it ! it actually gave me a headache. frankly, i dunt think they cud pick up where they left off 5 years ago. after being so horribly treated, cud skye really build smthg wid luke or accept his family !? luc's parents were not repentant even after 5 years, they still did not want her in the family. these conversations luc had wid his dad really irritated me. y try 2 gain his agreement/approval !? y not cut off his family !? dats what they deserve. i was so disgusted by the perettis ...more

A charming sweet read. Lots of passionate strong emotions from our hero Luc, who being a sexy Italian it is just in his nature. Poor Luc has a lot of feelings to deal with, with his brother's deathbed confession. Tracking down the woman he loved 6 years ago and seeing her again, brings all his love rushing back and his determination to claim his woman and child. Such a possessive, strong and determined man.....yummy! Skye has closed the door to Luc because he didn't believe in her. She has a har ...more

Finally, different plot! Refreshing and I find it very dramatic. Though it's not really my favorite because I think the Hero's a weak man. But then again, he can't help it. Good story, I just need a bit more sparkle. But overall I enjoyed it. <3

I don't even like the book, but it is good writing.

This was an enjoyable category romance. I like that we begin the book with the hero realizing that he's wronged the heroine and trying to make amends from the first. The book was an easy read, and I liked the Australian setting, although at times I felt as though it could have been set anywhere with only a few place name and seasonal changes.

The reason I rated this a 3 out of 5 instead of a 4 is that it just felt a bit too one-note for me. The father of the hero was pretty much a stock figure f

I was reminder of this book that I read a few years ago when I realized that the plot of the Spanish version I had picked up to improve my Spanish sounded familiar.

I remember liking the book, except that the means the hero's parents used to get him to dump the heroine involved featuring their other son in what amounts, in my mind, to pornography. That part just creeped me out and is the reason I am giving this 3 stars instead of the 4 I would normally give to a book I remember with pleasure a fe
