Mason Perry (yes an intentional play on the name of the famous fictional lawyer) is being released from prison! A former police detective in The toughest parts of D.C., she claims she was kidnapped, doped up, and forced to commit a series of very public armed robberies. Now she longs to go back to D.C. And find the people who set her up and evidence that willbexonerate her so that she can win he place back on the force. Her sister, however, has arranged for her to have a cushy job with great ...more
Maybe there is a standard for novels, depending on genre, to have recommended page lengths.
For this new Baldacci group, the story is about 50 to 75 pages too convoluted.
Mason Perry, named by her father, was a DC police officer until she was kidnapped and framed for a crime. Her older sister Beth is the chief of the DC police.
Mace was convicted and went to prison for two years. When she left prison, in the dark of night as arranged by her sister, the story ...more

I’m a huge fan of Baldacci’s, but this is not his best. Perfectly readable, entertaining plot, well-developed characters – it’s definitely one of the better ones. It’s just missing that something special that made me love Split Second.
In True Blue, Baldacci has moved away from his familiar FBI/CIA/NSA/acronym material to tackle Washington, its politics, law firms and police force. The change of setting is a refreshing one, and it gives him the chance to construct some new characters. T...more

In this start to a new series (I hope) Mace Perry has just been released from prison. She was incarcertated under the worst possible scenario … falsely accused and a cop in jail. But she survived, got physically and emtionally stronger and is now out to clear her name. With the help of her Chief of Police sister Beth, she sets out to do just that.

This was my first Baldacci novel and there were things that I liked and things that I disliked about it.
This is the story of "Mace" Perry, a cop convicted wrongly and sent to prison for 2 years. Her older sister, Beth Perry, is the Chief of Police in D.C. When Mace is released from prison she gets involved in the latest case being tackled by her sister.

I read all Mr. Baldacci's work
What a complicated tale that could have been ripped from the headlines, except the true story would never see the light of day. The Washington, DC police chief's little sister has just come out of jail and is trying to clear her name so she can get back on the force.
The sense of place, dialogue and plot are all very believable up to the end. There is a murdered attorney who was also raped; a murdered Justice Department official who also may be connected to the basic plot; the attorne...more

You know, I feel a little silly reviewing this book when everyone else I'm following are reviewing all these high-brow, top 100 books to read. But, you know, I finally realized that if I were sitting at my Daddy's dining room table with my sister, talking about books, these would be the ones I'd be talking about. So here goes. I really like David Baldacci anyway, so it was easy to get started in this book. Like all of his others, it grabs your attention at the beginning and doesn't let go.

thriller fans who want a good book for the train without bs babble about politics
Although this novel has elements of both a mystery and a thiller, there is no mystery to why I zipped through it in a day. Baldacci writes entertaining novels with fun characters, good sleuthing, a kick ass story and you just gallop through the story. Moreover, although his novels always seem to have cops, feds, spies and Washington in them, the various plot lines are different.

Mace Perry is in prison and due out in days. She is on edge because are threats from other inmates and she does not want to get killed or give cause to stop here release. Mace Perry was DC Cop and was jailed because she was arrested for crimes committed while drugged up by kidnappers from a drug gang. I like David Baldacci. We just listened to two of his books on our trip. So I went with True Blue. It is aboubt two sisters in the Washington DC police force. Beth is the Chief of Police and Mace Perry was a police officer but has just served two years in prison because she was set up. She is one tough cookie. Too tough for me. She is bitter, angry and wants to know the truth and get revenge. I like police officer novels. But the two women are just too tough and the story has several th...more
I kind of liked this book. It was nice to read a Baldacci book with two smart, capable, physically tough female characters as the central protagonists. The Perry sisters were able to carry most of the story and I'm sure if this book sells well we'll see more of them in a new series. There were plenty of backstory blanks to fill in as well as more complete character development. It did get tiresome to constantly be reminded of the sister relationship and Mace's obsession to return to the ranks of

My husband and I listened to this book on a road trip and we both enjoyed it. We both like David Baldacci's thrillers, particularly the ones involving the Camel Club. His books are usually not as R-rated as some in the genre.
The reason I'm rating this book 3 stars instead of 4 is for a couple of reasons. First, I don't think the reader did as good a job with this one as he has with some of the others. A female reader or one a bit more proficient with female voices or, better still,...more

True Blue by David Baldacci is a kick back to the old Last Man Standing days where the beat walking cop grinds down the details and solves the case using gut and grit. However, true to Baldacci’s character style, this story does not involve the typical hairy detective. Instead, it’s focused on a strong, independent woman that plays the role of the sticky gumshoe.
True Blue finally shows strength in its characters, where other Baldacci novels have been weak. While the independent women...more

Note to David Baldacci: you are not George Pelecanos, nor could you ever come to his level, this book makes that painfully clear. The forced and completely unnatural dialogue was really difficult to look past in this book. Honestly I'm surprised his editors even agreed to put it out. One of the things I do love about Baldacci is that he tends to keep locations, events, places in DC very accurate and real. It was clear that he went out of his way to not write about DC even though this book wa...more
This rare stand-alone thriller from David Baldacci harkened back to the depth and intensity of Baldacci's earlier works like Absolute Power or Total Control. Mace Perry, former DC police officer, comes out of prison at the beginning of the book, claiming that she was set up for the crime that stripped her of her badge. Mace is determined to either prove her innocence or solve a major crime, either of which she believes will give her a shot at getting her badge back. Mace's sister Beth is the ...more
Former Washington, D.C. hot-shot cop, Mace Perry is released from prison after serving her two year term and being set up.

First, thank you to Patty for giving me this book! I enjoyed reading it! It was a fast read, written without too many details, and lots of fast-paced action. I liked the main character, a strong female, named Mace Perry who was a DC cop who was framed for a crime and spent two years in prison. The story starts with her release, and her mission is to get back on the police force and she decides the best way to do that is to solve a major case on her own. She gets tangled up in a murder inves...more
This is incredibly fast paced read with one of Baldacci's boldest characters yet. Forcer DC police officer Mace Perry has just finished serving time for a crime she was set up for and her return to Washington DC where she reunites with her sister, Chief of Police of the city. Exploitive and tyrannical piloting, True Blue dumps the reader inside the belly of government, exposing undercover conniving agents slitting throats, bombing buildings, fist fights, knife fights, basketball games and verbal sparing, then, True Blue whirls the reader into legal games of cops and lawyers full of wits and misfits who have engineered deceiving careers that defrauds tax payers and stirs emotions.

I am a big fan of David Baldacci, normally, so I was very excited to read True Blue. Sadly the book doesn't hold up to most of his other thrillers. The story is one of female cop, Mason 'Mace' Perry (strangly mis-identified as 'Mac' on line). Mace like most cop cliches, was one of the hardest working cops on the DC force, her willingness to bend the rules caused her trouble, but of course also invented several new investigative methods that were now being taught at the academy. The story starts ...more

I really like David Baldacci’s work, but I think his publisher must have been pushing him for a new novel, so Baldacci hired a ghost writer to write this. This book is just bad, really bad. Mace Perry is a former DC police officer who was in prison (or something not her fault, of course) and is now released. She gets involved in trying to solve a crime that has nothing to do with her or the reason she was arrested. Her sister, Beth Perry, is the chief of the Washington DC police runs around ...more
The book was well read by Ron McLarty. There were some odd words and phrases that had dissonance to my ear. These were, I suspect a result of the differences between the written and spoken language, but it was not intrusive.
The characters were interesting and well developed. The plot was complex, interweaving treads from the perspective of several characters, but not confusingly so.

I just finished reading True Blue, Baldacci's latest. The book did not "track" any of Baldacci's regular characters but rather was the story of Mace Perry, a young woman, formerly a Washington, D.C. police officer, and just released from prison for a crime she did not commit or says she did not commit. Her sister, Elizabeth Perry, is the Police Chief of Washington, D.C. and her father was a United States Attorney for D.C. who had been murdered when Mace was twelve years old. This p...more
If True Blue were written by any other author, it would have been a train wreck. David Baldacci manages to carry two murder mysteries and a large cast of fascinating characters, weaving them all together with seemingly very little effort.

I have never read anything by David Baldacci before True Blue, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The book did sound great though so I couldn't wait to bury my head inside and get lost in the story. Once I tore through the pages of True Blue I could not put it down. It had me hooked after just the first few pages. I got so wrapped up in Mace's life and rooted for her til the very end. True Blue was such a thrilling story of murder, conspiracy and betrayal. It left me on the edge of my seat through...more
