The story lacks originality and the characters, though they have potential--as does the story's premise--, aren't all that interesting. The way the romance plays out makes you think that you've seen it all before to the point of it almost being a cookie cutter romance.

Viscount Norcourt, the rogue, isn't all that bad and Madeline Prescott, the virginal teacher, isn't all that goody goody either. No real sparks here. You get the feeling you know what's going to happen and eventually it all comes

Madeline Prescott needs help in saving her father and restoring his reputation. Finding that a rakehell needs her help, she decides that he just might be able to get her to the one man she believes can save her father. But then Anthony Dalton, the Viscount Norcourt, is much more than just a rakehell. And he needs her assistance her securing a position at the school where she is a teacher for his orphaned niece.

Many twists and turns follow, but it is quite clear Anthony is a man severely traumati
This is another one of those "school teacher meets handsome aristocrat" stories, but this one pushed my "Oh, come on--" buttons. I usually like Sabrina Jeffries a great deal, but... Heroine is a teacher at this school for heiresses. The hero is a nobleman who gets maneuvered--or perhaps maneuvers himself--into giving "rake" lessons. Lessons in rakish behavior and how an heiress can recognize it and avoid it. At the same time, the heroine is trying to get the hero to set up a party for her own se ...more

It took me awhile to finish this book. It had a good start but it waned as the story goes. It got me bored to the point I don't want to finish it. For the character of heroine well it is the same bluestocking lady who knows it all, although I laughed at the witty remarks she made. For the hero well the usual rake who has a dark past. Nothing new for the characters.

The progress of the story took so long and when I got to the story of it, still got me annoyed for the secrets and trust that don't
Despite this being the kind of romance where you want to bash the hero and heroine's heads together, I couldn't help enjoying this installment in Jeffries' School for Heiresses series. For one thing, we get to see the inner workings of the school. Teacher Madeline Prescott is scientifically curious about human nature, and naturally her interest in notorious rake Anthony is strictly scientific. Well, actually she needs his help to clear her father's name, and her attempts to get it without actual ...more

Bagussss !!!!

I am big Sabrina Jeffries fan but this was not one of my favorites by her. The book started out good and attention grabbing. The book went sour/downhill big time by Chapter 13 to the point I wanted to give up finishing it. I enjoy reading so much that even a bad book is worth finishing after putting in so much time. I did not buy the chemistry between Anthony and Madeline. And speaking of the hero Anthony, I felt like he was doing WAY too much just to get his niece in this school. The storyline ...more
I'm pretty sure I've read this book before but that was before I could keep track of all the books I read on Goodreads. It was just fine the second time around so I guess that's the mark of a reasonably good story, right? Yes. :)
I really liked this story and Viscount Norcourt. I also like Madeline Prescott and how she helped Anthony not feel so ashamed of his secret childhood humiliation.
really broke my heart when Anthony shared what he went through as a kid w/ his aunt...sooooo sad! very good book though!
I really like Jeffries, but I wasn't impressed with this book. The heroine is a school teacher who somehow convinces her school master to let a rake give her students lessons in how to avoid rakes, then they proceed to demonstrate a little too convincingly.

I never did get the heroine's big dilemma. Supposedly, her father, a surgeon, killed somebody using nitrous oxide, lost his practice, and has given up on life.

So, Maddy has to go to a nitrous oxide party to prove her father innocent. Huh?

Another masterpiece by Sabrina Jeffries! Can't wait to read her next one in the School for the Heiresses Series!! =D
I love Sabrina Jeffries. I really do. I thank my roommate for forcing me to read one of her books because now I can't seem to get enough.

This story is so well-written. Everything is seamless and keeps moving and is researched to a T and is just beautifully done. Jeffries knows exactly what she's doing, and I appreciate that.

I love the characters in this one especially. Anthony's background is extremely out of the ordinary for the heroes of romance novels, but I'll be damned if it wasn't executed
I took a break from this series so forgot who hero's friends were. Otherwise I liked it very much. Certainly more then I liked previous parts. Here things actually take place in Mrs Harris school and with one of her teachers being main character. Hero is being naughty although he somehow is afraid of being called wicked. I wonder maybe it meant worse things then it means today? I still looking forward to reading more about Mrs Harris although here author showed us that she has male admirer other ...more

English historical romance about a school teacher at Mrs. Harris's heiress school who us trying to fix her father's scandal by making compromises with a Lord Anthony Dalton who is trying to get custody of his orphaned niece because he was abused as a child by his uncle and aunt who now has physical custody of the Tessa. Miss Prescott is not an ugly spinster because she is very pretty and only 25 years old, but without connections or a dowry she would have probably never been able to marry a titl ...more

I really enjoyed this book. And that surprises me because the SHero, Madeline Prescott, definitely did some questionable things. She was evasive often and even lied to the Hero at times. I generally dislike deceitful characters but for some reason, I found her actions annoying but not distasteful. In fact, based on the Hero's reputation and his family connections, I understood why she hid so many relevant issues from Hero.

Speaking of him, I found him more appealing than Madeline. Maybe because

A naturalist and a rakehell walk into a school for heiresses. . . . . Well, not exactly - the rakehell walks in and meets the naturalist who's a teacher there. He convinces her to champion his cause to enroll his orphaned niece there and help build support for his custody case against an abusive aunt and uncle.

Jeffries weaves a lot of convolutions and hidden connections between the hero and heroine in this. Anthony and Madeline are shown to be well-suited for each other, intellectually and emoti
School for an heiresses book 4

Anthony Dalton, Viscount Norcourt, bujangan & playboy sejati selama ini kehidupannya penuh dengan hura hura. tiba2 saja dia harus merubah segala kebiasaannya jika ingin mendapat hak asuh keponakan kecilnya, tessa, yg saat ini tinggal bersama paman & bibinya, 2 orang yg anthony tau tak pantas membesarkan seorang anak pun.

That was....shallow.
Sorry, Jeffries. I think you ran out of trouble plots.

I gave this book 4 stars based on how Norcourt is with Madeline and Madeline period.

Madeline is a naturalist. Bluestocking to the greatest extent.

Ugh. Damn it. The book is just so... disappointing! I can't even write a review.

Anyway, you'll like the beginning until you know what Anthony's "dark" past is about. Shizzz. It's so stupid that even Madeline's counter comfort words are just weird and not adorably lovey dovey lik

For interests of remaining clear, I'm not entirely certain what year the story takes place. Its obviously after Louisa and Foxmoor marry (so after 1821), but it doesn't mention Venetia at all (which took place in 1822) and a minor character in Rogues, Elinor Bancroft, has her own story told in the Snowy Night with a Stranger anthology and is set in December of 1823 and thus still in school for Rogues (but almost at her coming out). So its my assumption the story is set in late 1822/early 1823 (s ...more

Madeline Prescott begins the latest entry in Sabrina Jeffries's engaging The School for Heiresses series with one major problem regarding her father. Before long, she has a few more troubles, and they pretty much all revolve around Viscount Norcourt.

Madeline loves science, mathematics, her father and her students. She is trusted by her new employer, Mrs. Harris. If only famous scientist Sir Humphrey Davy would answer her letters. Her father, a country physician, has been accused of killing a pat

When Madeline Prescott took a teaching position at Mrs. Harris’s School for Young Ladies, it was to help restore her father’s reputation. Instead, she’s in danger of ruining her own. The devilishly handsome Anthony Dalton, Viscount Norcourt, has agreed to provide “rake lessons” to Mrs. Harris’s pupils so they can learn how to avoid unscrupulous gentlemen, and Madeline is to oversee his classes. She has always believed that attraction is a scientific matter, easily classified and controlled-until ...more

I really did not like the heroine in this story. Time and again she is given the chance to be honest with the Hero and time and again she chooses to lie and deceive. (view spoiler) I found Madeline to be one of the most unsympathetic and dislikable characters I have encountered.

Would I read it again: Nope. I DNF'd at 64%.

5/29/14 I just finished the Audio CD of this book. I am sure my comments would mirror my words of the printed word if I had written a review of it. I was rooting for the Hero and Heroine, but they were sold to cooperate. If each had been truthful at the beginning of this tale, the tale would have only last a few hundred pages...a short story or maybe a novella. I think the author could have taken a different path and had a book. This one of the first audio book that I have actually fast forwarde ...more
