“We don’t really know what a body can do,” wrote 17th-century philosopher Baruch Spinoza in a reflection on the body’s unrealized potential. Centuries later, according to physician and mind-body expert Deepak Chopra, we still don’t really know — and this is great news for those of us interested in expanding our physical and spiritual limits. In the first half of the book, Chopra “reinvents the body” as a manifestation of energy, and his five breakthrough ideas show how the body can be changed th More...

This book taught me a lot about how to think of my body - as the "interface between the material and spiritual worlds" and also how to reconnect to our own souls. Chopra gives a list of ten breakthroughs in how to think of our bodies and our souls - five different ways to think of our bodies and five different ways to think of our souls.

It also reiterates the idea (that Chinese medicine is based upon) that our bodies are made of energy and we can manipulate that energy b More...

I love the way he talks about the body, in the first section. I've found that section to be useful and inspiring in my own personal body work as well as the work I do with others.

Although the second section of the book has lots of interesting meditation exercises, I found the writing style to be vague and not all that helpful. Also, lots of references to "recent studies" without being specific or siting those studies...which always annoys me. Either don't use sc More...

A synthesis of many teachings I've learned through yoga and Buddhist-influenced Eastern thought, mainly focusing on the impermanence and changeability of our physical selves and how the constructs we imagine are our"selves" bear no influence on our truest essence. I've always liked what Chopra has to say, so I'm already in the choir when it comes to his take on the mind-body connection, holistic health, meditation, contemplation, consciousness, and relationships. Still, this book conta More...

I really didn't like this book. It was too condensed and too
"self-help-y" with all the anecdotes of people with no last names.

Plus there was one anecdote about a woman who "saved her marriage" by doing all the things her husband wanted like "baking fresh-baked bread" out of "selfless love" while stopping the things that he didn't like such as "showing her hurt feelings" because they annoyed him. Yeah, the relationship got bett More...

I don't usually go for new-agey books, or if I do it's rare that I'm able to get through them without becoming annoyed. However I found the contents of this incredible, and wasn't turned off in the least.
There's so much to say about this book. Reading this is like eating for both taste and hunger. It's one of those books that takes awhile for the concepts to truly sink in, so take some time to digest it. I'm going to have to read it again.

i don't lean towards d.chopra books, i think because there are so many (50+),it tends to be a deterrent to me. but, this book caught my attention and was excellent. i highly recommend it to all those on the path of trying to be their own director, the one who acts vs. reacts and reaches for that higher calmness..that i call happiness.

Some interesting points but repetitive at times. I have read a few other books on the same topic recently, and this one seemed to be just a re-hash of what I'd read by other authors. Perhaps if I'd read this one first, I would have had a few more "a-ha!" moments. This is the first book I've read by Deepak Chopra, and I know folks do like him, so I will try one of his other books.

I always enjoy books by Deepak Chopra. My only disappointment was that I did not experience any real Aha! moments while reading this book. There was lots of good information, some of it a review of what I know and should be doing, some of it new and expanding.

What I found most valuable was the metaphor he used comparing soul-living to being in the great outdoors and ego-lving to being enclosed in a small shack. Somehow this image is very peaceful, non-threatening, and mind expanding More...

With numerous lists and tests, this insightful self-healing book is probably better experienced in the printed form. Mr. Chopra's approach to life is naturally based heavily in his Eastern upbringing and commitment to alternative treatments and the book provides some valuable insight into each from his perspective.

It took me a long time to get through this book, but only because I had to digest it every few pages and let it simmer and percolate. I actually need to re-read it again, so that I can actually live, not just read and digest the message. A wonderful book with a great message in living a more concious life.

I loved everything about this book. I listened to the whole unabridged audiobook twice and couldn't stop taking notes. I finally bought a copy hoping my daughters would read it and will buy another to keep for myself. It is by far the best book written by Chopra.

Usually I pick up the book I need when I need it. This time my husband brought home the book I needed when I didn't have my usual intuition at the library. I'm not sure how to rate it as I've finished. I just know it is the book I needed at this moment.

Deepak Chopra gives us lots to think about and delivers it in such a way that one can test out easily enough. Having said that, it was a bit confusing from time to time, as there is so much to digest. I want to own this book to refer to again and again. I do believe we can "control" our own health. I do know that love is the key to everything and when we work from that place of love, the rest follows so much better.

This is an excellent book about how to integrate body and soul. It gives some great suggestions on making the soul more integral to everyday life.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in becoming more balanced in life.

Dr. Oz recommended this. There are a lot of good tid bits on relaxation techniques. Be aware that you have to pick and choose. Some of this, as the title suggests, are a bit "too much"

After deaths of immediate family members in less than 2 months, this book was vital in helping me deal with the "now what" facing my life. It's a keeper for me!

OK, not exactly my favorite topic but this book helped open my mind to meditation. The world is a beautiful place if we stop to smell the roses once in a while.

Don't read this book unless you are serious about understanding soul and consciousness. This book is power-packed with amazing info that will either inspire or overwhelm - depending upon your interest.

It was a thought-provoking mish-mash of ideas from New Age, Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism. I liked the practical advice on meditation the best. I also liked his distinction between reflection, contemplation and meditation. Some of his claims seemed too extreme however.

The book was neat and interesting, but some of it went over my head. I prefer self-help books to be straight forward and simple, where I don't have to think about it too much. Perhaps that's what he was getting at...

Listening via audio...I must say, this is one of Chopra's best. I love how he takes these HUGE complex spiritual concepts and shrinks them down to something easy to digest mentally.

I always resist reading Chopra. Don't know why because every time I read him I learn something useful. So far some interesting meditation techniques involving sound. I have about a chapter left to read in this book.

My favorite book by Deepak Chopra. There are so many sections that have the insight and strength to stand alone, yet they're all here. Its genius sometimes catches you off-guard...even as I approached the end, I would come across passages that were so profound, I would think, "Wow...this single section could be the creed for my life..."

If there's ONE self-help book you'll ever own, this should be the one. You can read it over and over and over. Most books of this type, yo More...
