What can I say? I give it a full 3. In my opinion, the quality of the stories was fairly decent overall for this kind of schlock, higher than those in volume 5 anyway. Still, schlocky though it may be, I'm rating "You Toomb" by the same standard I use to rate most books - the degree to which it accomplished its goals, mas o menos points for my own subjective tastes and aversions.

It opens with "Chicken Man", yet another obligatory Voodoo yarn, which predictably centers on a fowl-cutting, doll-sta

Okay, so this is basically a "what the hell" novel and I just read it to give my eyes a break from words and moved on to pictures. Not necessarily a book of my taste, but hey all of these stories have Stephen King based ideas written all over them and I've seen a few of his films based off his books, and I admire them for the originality that they merit.

The first story is about a guy that tries to cheat a voodoo practioner and then tries to rob him and kill him. Karma bites the guy bad. The next story is about a brain-eating monster. The third story is about an old woman that finds a rather unusual baby on her doorstep. The last story is another in the robots-go-mad type of thing. Fairly good stories, all.

Van Lente was raised by a mystery-loving mother (who preferred Dorothy Sayers to Agatha Christie, but we won't hold that against her) and a wisecracking Woody Allen-lookalike scientist father in what appears to be some kind of genetic experiment to write his first novel, TEN DEAD COMEDIANS, even though neither parent nor the son himself would know it for many years.

Van Lente spent his time betwee
