Lady Juliana of Bellemare has always been hungry to experience new things and exciting adventures but knows that will never happen. Her older brother Hugh has decided to marry her off to their neighbour Lord Eadward of Tyrshire and the only thing shed experience would be the life with a man thirty years older than she and be stuck in the same place for the rest of her life. On a whim she calls out to her imaginary knight of her dreams to rescue her and take her on an adventure, yes, she even pro ...more

I’m sure this has been said many times, but I’ll say it as well: King of the Unblessed highly reminded me of the Labyrinth. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s an amazing story and movie, and loved that the Labyrinth might have been the inspiration behind King of the Unblessed.

I loved the Prologue as it introduced King Merrick. Poor guy just needs some love. I was very curious about him and wanted to know more about him immediately. However, by the second encounter with Juliana (the heroine

I don't read many romance novels anymore, and I'm not particularly interested in the paranormal romance genre -- but I somehow found myself caught up in this story about a medieval noblewoman who, on the eve of her marriage to an older man she's known all her life, has her wish for "adventure" granted by an elven king who has become obsessed with her.

The "unblessed" stand between the "blessed" and the "damned." They are not evil, but are aligned with the necessary and natural forces of darkness,

This was strange - I guess that's all I can say about this book.
I wasn't really connected to any of the characters, they lacked depth and any sort of development.
I was also confused about the settings at times and characters just pop up out of nowhere, it was weird.
The story also was only so-so. I often find that those kind of books suffer an overload of paranormal fantasy figures and get lost in so much diversity that the story and the characters are not well rounded and understandable. Less
"King of the Unblessed" is a well-written fantasy romance that both pleased and annoyed me.

I enjoyed the main character of Merrick, the misunderstood King of the Unblessed, and his conflict with this brother and the Demon King Lucian. The sprights and fairies and gnomes were fun. So were the goblins.

Lady Julianna completely annoyed me thoughout the story. She is described as near perfection, yet she consistenly lies to her brothers and her new lover. Her choices are crap, and she has no clue a

Okay whoa, hold up, why did I not know that this book existed until now?

I devoured this book. I rolled it up into a sweet little ball, baked it at 90 degrees (gosh it's hot here), and after a 3 am night I was hugging my kindle to my chest and staring at the ceiling like a teenager again.

I gotta say, the book is significantly close to the Labyrinth. I'm certain people have mentioned this before. I mean, Merrick is legitimately this.

Sans the singing and dancing number.

This read was supposed to be just a quickie, nothing impactful or even meaningful. A book that you use as a bridge to get through the time between release dates and wasn't.

Instead it was a new book that showed not only new and different meanings of good and evil. But also a new definition as well as variations of love.

Well written, it not only captured the correct tone, dialect, and period it also opened a portal to a new and intriguing view within fantasy. This author knew when to be

So I had so much fun with this author’s Divinity Warriors series, and the two medieval romances that were stand alones that I was really excited to be offered the opportunity to start on the Realm Immortal Audio Book.

There are really four or five different stories that comprise this book, making it the perfect introduction to the series and providing the never ending conflict that has existed for eons.

Ms. Pillow recreated what I call the adult version of Labyrinth with KING OF THE UNBLESSED! I don’t know how she did it, but she even came up with a sexier “goblin king” than David Bowie! Yes, I believe I blushed more than once.

Lady Juliana of Bellemare, wants nothing more than a grand adventure before she is to be married. When one lives in the land of the Fae, one must be careful of what they wish for. She is a bit naive and does not know the really know what the world hold. As there were time

We start the story with Merrick, King of the Unblessed. We get a little back story in his life and how he was once the future King of the Blessed. That is now is brother. Merrick is the middle between the Blessed and the Damned. He is looking in the divining basin, seeing a human women who captured his notice like no one had before. NOT my usual genre - don't really like historical romance as I'm too much of a Historian!! However as it was by Michelle Pillow, one of my automatic buy authors I decided to give it a go. Set in the early par of the 2nd millennium in a non existent shore in England it was easy to get lost in this new world, as there were no real landmarks to get you stuck in landscape.

It's most definitely well written and the wording and setting certainly don't jar and fit with the time period. The characters ar

Lady Juliana wanted an adventure. She got one and much more. This one is a definite period piece. It is also a fantasy of all the realms. Merrick, King of the Unblessed, has been watching and waiting for an opportunity to bring Juliana to his realm. He is caught in between good and evil with no room for feelings. He wants her, connives to get her and won't let her go.

What of her doting brothers, her betrothed and life long friend? Will they follow her to the land of fairies, trolls and all the b

This is the first book of a new series from Michelle Pillow and I found this one a little slow in the beginning but once I started to understand this new world it picked up quickly. I was pulled into Lady Juliana's story and found myself rooting for Merrick to love her...and not just keep her as a belonging. I was shocked at some of the twists in this of which made one character that seemed to be one of the good guys show his true colors as a bad guy. Even though this book did not en ...more

Fantasy land! Blessed and Un-Blessed, what a concept. Taking dark and light and bringing it to a magical world was great. Michelle Pillow does an amazing job of describing this realm. Her characters are developed and have depth to them. Merrick is the King of the Unblessed. He is not happy nor really mad, but borders on melancholy, that is until he seeks the pleasure and presence of Lady Juliana. Lady Juliana is from a family that has been blessed for many generations. She has been betrothed to ...more

This book is seriously boring the hell outa me. It has some elements that could be good, like in a Labrynth fanfic sorta way, but I found myself just not caring about these characters. And I really, really wanted to, because I LOVE Labrynth, but sadly this just isn't it.

Interesting new story with medieval humans tossed into a magical world

A lack of good communication causes many misunderstandings and sets things in motion that impact both worlds.

The social norms of the medieval humans is a shocking reminder of how rigid and sexist things were back then. The human characters accept it as the way things are and should be.

The magical world has so much tradition tied to certain roles that some behaviors are so expected, the characters don't even begin to think outs

Better than I was expecting especially with how it started. Not amazing, but definitely readable. It was a bit difficult to get into the story and took about 3 or 4 chapters before I was amused enough to not struggle. Plot devices and ending were obvious enough and I would have like to see more character development. Other than the main character being inexplicably attracted to an elf she didn't know, hating that elf and then at the end *spoiler alert* being inexplicably attracted to the same el ...more

Honestly, I got about 70 pages in to this mess and couldn't go any further. I'm very very happy I didn't have to pay anything for it, or I would be seriously pissed. Really, I should have been paid for downloading the thing.

I gave it one star because it contained actual words, mostly arranged in order. But the author is clearly an amateur. She can't decide what she wants her characters to actually be, what powers they actually possess, whether they're evil or not. And she can't write a sexy scen

Michelle Pillow is blessed. She has a way with words and I love her series: Lords of the Var & Dragon Lords. which I strong recommend.
But 'Realm immortal' series is not for me. This is the second I've tried on this series adn I'm not going to buy any other.

Because I don't like stories where the heroine fell in love with abusive men just because they are hot and sexy. Bad guys are hot, abusive men are not.

Recommendations by this author (and so many other) on the series Lords of the Var

This is the first of the series and its quit a good start, I loved the world Michelle m pillow created and the magical creatures were wonderful.
I however only gave this book 3 star because of the the lead character Juliana, I found her rather simple and irritating. She didn't learn from her mistakes or really grow throughout the book. She didn't trust or even like Merrick yet she sleeps with him almost immediately. She came across as judgmental, rude and a little dense but that's fine because sh
I liked this book a lot the reason it doesn't get five stars is simply the price I can't afford to buy it and the series it is creating. That being said I loved the story line. Merrick is the King of the Unblessed and becomes interested in a mortal woman. So interested he brings her into the Otherworld on an adventure that she craves. However Lucian King of the Damned is playing his own game with Merrick and Ean the King of the Blessed. Throw in some faries hot mortal men. Sexy Unblessed Men som ...more

I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It was nothing at all what I expected it to be, and for that alone, I give it a star.

Great read by Michelle M. Pillow. I will definitely be checking out more of her stuff.

Good book. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It had dark and light tones to the story. The characters are deep and wonderfully written. I can't wait to read the next story in the series.

I was given this novel from the author for an honest review in my own words and I was not compensated at all.

Michelle Pillow is an amazing writer. I read this book years ago when it first came out in 2006, and I hadn't read it since, but it remained on my keeper shelf (for good reason). When I received a Kindle Fire for Xmas by my boyfriend, this was one of the first books I downloaded.

Reading King of the Unblessed is a delight! I especially love the references to the movie Labyrinth (though Merrick is a FAR sexier "goblin king" than David Bowie - which is a feat in itself...And Juliana has a lot more

Better than I expected, although some parts felt clunky and awkward. The main character annoys me slightly, as she comes across as chronically indecisive and even featherbrained, but overall it was an engaging story. The potential of redemption keeps you going.
