Okay, first off this a the Second Book in a series so you will Need to read the first book Dark Time, in order to truly understand what is going on in this series and understand who Maliha was and now is. Also there will be some spoilers below for the first book, so if you are interested in reading this series you Do Not want to read below.

Alright, now that the warning has been taken care of (read more at your own risk for spoilers) Dakota Banks is back with another intense novel, about one wome...more

I love Maliha's character and the decision she's made to save people in order to make up for the death and destruction she reaped on behalf of a demon. I had a lot of expectations for this sequel, and Sacrifice met most of them. Maliha's journey toward redemption is always the main priority, but her relationship with Jake, the short relationship with Lucias, and even to a lesser extent her relationship with other men from her past left me feeing unsatisfied at the end. I loved Lucias's character...more

Sacrifice by Dakota Banks

The young mother from Dark Time returns. http://bookrevues.blogspot.com/2009/0...
Her quest to bring the demons down continues, complicated by her ambivalent love triangle. Her new mortality is impacting her morality. She faces both internal and external conflict in her ongoing quest.

As I noted in my review of Dark Time, the revoking of her ageless infallibility and her now more credible skill set helps in creating a more believable and likeable Maliha. I find her strugg...more

Maliha Crayne was reborn into a vicious executioner. She was imprisoned to a demon by the name of Rabishu. She was his right hand woman for 300 hundred centuries. She was able to find a loophole and be set free. Ever since then, Maliha has been trying to right all the wrongs she did.

Someone has wiped out an entire village. The person or people behind this attack are dangerous. Only a weapon so massive and powerful could do something like this. Maliha will have her hands full. As if things weren...more

I really loved the first book, and it was the one which introduced me to the urban-fantasy genre. Sacrifice, the second book is just as good. It is intense and action-packed. I finally have a clue about Jake when Dakota answers the big question mark which was left hanging there at the end of the first book.

As for Maliha, she is on a quest to search the shards scattered in every corner of the world in order to destroy the seven demon offsprings of Anu while trying her best to balance the scale on...more

This book does not start out as heart wrenching (book in the freezer throwing... yes another Friends reference) book like the first one, Dark Time. However, as the last one left off, Ms. Banks took her time getting to the question lingering as we left off the last book. Frustrating, but we are completely entertained by all the action going on before we come back to that interesting question I'm not going to reveal (*evil laugh*). Unfortunately, I will also have to tread carefully here about this...more

This book is the 2nd installment of the "Mortal Path" series. It continues the saga of Maliha Crayne, a woman who for 300 years served a Sumerian demon named Rabishu, but who has renounced her immortality and service of him to defend humanity from him and his fellow demons.

In this book, Maliha and her friends stumble onto a massive terrorist conspiracy against developing nations, and she has to track down the conspirators and try to stop them before they kill hundreds of innocents. Along the wa...more

This was a good book, and I may come back later to change this rating to a five star. I did not like the end so I am keeping it at four stars right now.

I really like the lead character Malhia. She is a strong woman, a sort of kick ass and ask question later type of lady. One thing I find that I do like about her is the fact that she takes care of business herself and doesn't feel that she needs to lean on anyone else to accomplish what she has too.

Malhia has been an assassin for a demon for cen...more

Dakota Banks' second book in the Mortal Path series, Sacrifice was definitely interesting. I'll admit, it takes me awhile to really get sucked into these books, maybe it's because the text is so small and smashed like on the pages, but overall I never regret reading them.

I am curious to find out how, if, and when Maliha can do what she's set out to do. Balance the scale and rescue as many lives as she's destroyed and rid the world of demons. She's got a full plate on her hands and the surprises...more

Now, one bad azz babe with kicks that kill, Maliha was once a simple wife and healer. Leading a pleasant life with her husband and expecting her first child, Maliha never could have foreseen her true future. Branded a witch by a jealous lady friend, Maliha was stoned by the town’s people, including her own husband, and subsequently burned at the stake. When approached by Rabishu, a vile and evil demon, Maliha could not see beyond anything but her obsession for vengeance. Accepting a life of serv...more

Loved it!!!! In this installment of the Mortal Path series, Maliha once again delivers some serious butt-kickery. I don't want to give away anything..suffice it to say its very hard NOT to get pulled into the book. I had a hard time putting it down. Very action packed and riveting. I would be totally torn between Jake and Lucius(although truth be told I am rooting for Lucius...even in light of what transpires). What I liked most about Sacrifice is development of Lucius' character, but not what h...more

My Thoughts
If you haven’t read my review on Book #1 (Dark Time), click HERE. I included some backstory info that you might like to read.

The mortal path isn’t so smooth for Maliha. Since giving up her immortality and the life of an assassin, she is free to have friendships and people in her life; however, that also means having much more to lose. Since her quest is dangerous, she struggles with the decision to involve those she loves or to keep them at a distance to protect them. She is happy wi...more

Starting just two months after Dark Time ends, Sacrifice felt more like a continuing chapter then a new book. This time around the book starts at full speed, at the pinnacle of the roller coaster, if you will. If I had to describe Sacrifice in one word it would be "more". More characters, more adventure, more action, more Maliha and more fun. Of the two books this was my favorite because I got to enjoy the ride.

The settings are phenomenally extraordinary. I never imagined I would enjoy reading a...more

A CK2S K2 Recommended Read!

I can gladly say there has been no sophomore slump for Dakota Banks with Sacrifice, the second book in her fantastic Mortal Path series! With all the action, excitement, passion, and danger of book one, I found myself racing to the finish, only to then realize I had to again wait for the next book in the series! And what a hard wait that will be!

Maliha Crayne is well on her path to redemption after centuries as a demon’s slave, thoug...more

I liked the first book but didn't give too much thought to the writing itself. In this second installment I'm already a bit disappointed to find something that is all too common in romance/urban fantasy novels and extremely annoying i.e. whenever a character has wealth, they must buy the most expensive item of everything and I have to read through a list of all the expensive sexy things money can buy. Not every wealthy person has the need to have their coffee extruded from the anus of a south As...more

I LOVED Dark Time, so when I got the chance to read the second book in the Mortal Path series, I couldn’t say YES! fast enough. I don’t know if I found Sacrifice to be better then Dark Time, but it was absolutely just as wonderful in my opinion.

Sacrifice picks up a little while after the ending in Dark Time. Maliha is still working towards her ultimate goal of getting rid of all demons and of balancing her scale so she doesn’t have to spend eternity is Rabishu’s clutches.

We learn a couple chapte...more

Sacrifice picks up shortly after book #1, Dark Time. We continue to follow Maliha on her journey to find all the shards scattered around the world and balance the scales. No longer Ageless, freed from the demon, Rabishu, Maliha's mission is to balance out the lives she's taken in the past with the lives she saved since finding that loophole.

Dark Time left us with a lot of questions about Maliha's new beau, Jake. Thankfully we don't have to wait too long into this one to get some answers. I wish...more

I would hate to be on Dakota Banks' bad side. She know so much about spying and assassination that I am starting to wonder if she leads a secret life . I thoroughly enjoyed Sacrifice. It is a straight forward Dark Urban Fantasy. I like all the characters and her evil characters are truly evil. I don't want to give any spoilers, but darn it! Chapter 31 was very upsetting . Oh, and Lucious is luscious . Can't wait to read what happens next to Maliah and how much closer she comes to saving her soul...more

Book two is another nonstop action packed story. My only complaint is the love interest angle. It felt like it was almost an after thought and it was frankly annoying. One minute she loves Jake then she is thinking she might love Lucius. I thought Lucius was put into the story just to give her one more reason to feel guilty as if she didn't have enough before his part of the story. Other than that issue, I did enjoy the book and I am on to read #3.

I enjoy these books partially for the historical events that are incorporated as well as the archaeology which are all accurate to a degree. Once again this is a solid 4.5 star book same as the previous one. I'm so happy to have found another well written engaging story that involves a bum-kicking intelligent adult female heroine as they are hard to find. These books have 3 main stories: 1) a woman's search for redepmtion of her soul and for who she is, 2) of the Sumerian demons and diamond shar...more

Absolutely FABULOUS book! Lots of twists and turns and a few sad moments. Thought for a while there Maliaha was going back to her old ways but good to see she smartened up at the end of the book. The very end of the book, like last page or so was very well written...the absolute last sentence was sooooo cute, LOL! I love this sequel to Dark Time and am enjoying the story line imensely. You've got her being the hero/good guy for humanity, and then she has her "side goal" which is to find all the...more

I was going to give this 5 stars until the very end. I don't do spoilers so I won't say what disappointed me, though. Up until then I thought it was fabulous- highly original with well-developed (also original) characters. I'm hoping when I read the next one that the turn of events from this book will make sense. And make me and Maliha happy.

All in all good book. It reduces the number of bog down moments allowing me to finish it completely enthralled. Albeit the ending was a little meh for me.

I will give thid 3.5 stars. It was well written, the progression was timed nicely, and I like Mahilia. I wished I loved her, but I just cant. I will finish the series, just not in a hurry.
Anika
I like it, wish the other immortal did not die he would have helped more than Jake her current love does.

Review is coming, but I loved Sacrifice for it's detailed action, the rich characters and unique plot.

I have to believe that growing up in a converted turn-of-the-century funeral home, complete with blood gutters and a drain in the basement floor, warped my mind.

I set aside all those macabre thoughts spawned by reading books in the basement at night with a flashlight and undertook a relatively normal life. College, science fiction, husband, computers, Star Trek...more
