Spring 1873:

I arrived in Japan a virgin bride, heartsick and anxious beyond measure. Yet I embraced this perplexing world with my soul laid bare after uncovering an erotic, intoxicating power I hardly knew that I, Katie O'Roarke, possessed.

Japan was a world away from my tedious Western existence, a welcome distraction from my recent marriage to a cold and cruel husband. B

A Sensual Journey for the Erotica Reader

A savage land. A savage husband. Bushido and sexuality. Katie O'Roarke was brought to Japan a virgin bride hungry for the touch of a man. Wed to Lord Carlton to up her status and fund his debauched lifestyle she finds herself in a foreign land struggling to protect the financial interests of her father from her husband's excesses. I'll start by saying that this is written in the style of Victorian era tittilation novels - the ones you always found at the top shelves of bookstores written by "Anonymous". They were naughty fiction written over a hundred years ago for snickering uptight Victorians at the turn of the century.

This book is very much in that genre and vein. It's definitely not a historical; nor is it a modern erotic kinky book. Instead,

The story was interesting and the memoir style of writing made it personal. I think it would have been more interesting if the book was centered more on the story of Katie and her disastrous marriage and subsequent involvement with the samurai. How this all evolved made for an interesting view into mid 19th century Japan. I felt the author was more into relating explicit sexual details rather than relating the story.

I couldn't finish this. The idea was intriguing a Western woman who falls in love with a samurai and is immersed in Asian culture during imperialism. I was minimally disturbed by the S&M and threat of rape at the beginning. The author's annoying habit of talking to the reader throughout the book was the final straw. I interrupted the flow and was entirely to much like presuming my emotions. No thanks.

It has been quite a sassy read, if you get what I’m saying….. I picked it up because of my obsession with Japan and wanting to learn more about it! It tells a lot about the scenery of japan and a little bit of the geisha. Ms. Bacarr has written the blonde samurai so that her main character, Kaite, is making a memoir of her days in japan.

It was ok, but some parts I just could not get into and just found to be a little boring or too much for me.

The pacing was odd - time kept skipping around and it was somewhat hard to follow what was going on.
