The 2008 presidential campaign told in comics form. This is a fun read with a somewhat snarky tone. The art is pretty bad though. It appears to be traced from photographs, or maybe there is a photoshop tool that turns photos into line drawings. Either way the art seems really lazy and often gives people a terrifying rictus of insanity.

Perhaps I will come to like this more as time progresses and we get farther and farther away from the election of '08. It's billed as a "Graphic Diary of the Campaign Trail," and (in my experience) diaries make for dull reading when the events described are still fresh in your mind. So perhaps this will have historic value at some point, and as far as that goes it's not badly done. This book gives a concise account of the presidential campaign marathon from 2006 onwards. The authors appear as characters and provide wry commentary on some of the campaigns' more ridiculous moments, sparing no candidate. One of my favorite features was the grotesque exaggeration of candidate's features, punctuating Hillary's frantic denial of her defeat, McCain's exhausted and strange behavior near the end, and Obama's self indulgent trip into celebrity as only the graphic novels can do. Dan Goldman's Shooting War is one of my favorite graphic novels (it's about blogs and explosions, which makes me pretty much the ideal audience), so I was pretty psyched when I saw he had teamed up with Michael Crowley for a recap of the craziest election ever. The book doesn't disappoint and I have a feeling it will only become better with age as the thousands of tiny (but at the time GIGANTIC)one-day stories that made up the 08 election begin to fade from memory.

This is exactly what it says on the cover- a graphic diary of the campaign trail. From the start to the finish, when our country elected it's first black president. It is written and drawn very well. The players look exactly like they do in real life, so there's that.Being glued to the TV like I was for the whole campaign, there's nothing new here, but historically accurate just the same. Will probably be more relevant years from now when this is all behind us.

This is probably the best political graphic novel I've read. I thought that the "9/11 Report Graphic Adaptation" and follw-up "War on Terror" were too wordy and hard to follow. By concentrating on the main players in the '08 campaign, the authors made their account interesting, exciting, & a lot easier to follow. Any details I was unsure of were easy to look up online using keywords from the brief blocks of text that they include.

Doesn't portray Hillary Clinton in a favorable light (visually or character-wise), but a pretty solid overview of the primaries and general election, highlighting the bumps in the road and turning points in Obama's and McCain's presidential campaigns.

I enjoyed this book mainly because they told the stories behind each candidate without favoring one over the other. It was an enjoyable read and one I would recommend to teens to learn more about getting involved with politics and debates...

Yup, I cried at the end, even though I knew what was coming. (Spoiler alert--it's not McCain!) A very thorough reminder of the craziness that was the 08 election, with some awesome illustrations.
