Who will be the last unmarried man standing?

No man in his right mind would "want" to get married, but every duke, earl, and viscount knows that a fellow must do his duty in the end. So four of London's most desirable gentlemen make a wager--the prize going to the one who remains unwed the longest.

Gideon Pearsall, Viscount Warton, thinks he has a fair shot at winning. After

For me, one of the weakest romance novels.

A couple meets and for nearly 100 pages they carry on with casual, superficial bantering, for example: "Do you feel wicked frequently?" "Why do you ask?" "Curiosity. Nothing more than that." The author claims they are drawn to each other as they have never been drawn to anyone else before. I found that hard to believe based on superficial chit chat. Page 145 states "Anything they disagreed on, they disagreed on with fervor. Which was every bit as much fu

A Little Bit Wicked is book 1 in Victoria Alexander's "Last Man Standing" series. These 4 guys make a little bet about who will be the last one to get married, although it isn't REALLY a big deal--they're just 4 friends and whoever wins only gets 4 shillings and a bottle of cognac, or some such.

Anyway, so this book is about Gideon Pearsall, Viscount Warton, who we find out in the prologue has been married before and is QUITE cynical about love and marriage and all that--he has ZERO intention of

So here is the story. I decided to read all the "A" author's on my bookshelf. This was my summer project. Well I have book 3 and 4 of the "Last man standing" series, so I have to get 1 and 2. This book is number 1 and I got it from the library. I am waiting for #2 from Amazon. Impatiently!! Because I really enjoyed this book. Two hurt souls, guarding themselves from hurt for different reasons, do not recognize love when they feel it. Judith has been psychologically bruised and feels guilty. Gide ...more

A Little Bit Wicked is a quick and light read that is delightfully funny. The Last Man Standing is a four book series telling of four men who each bet they will be the last man to remain unmarried. Though I really liked Judith and Gideon’s characters, I found the plot of the book to be quite predictable. I love tension that leads to a great Happily Ever After but this book was lacking in that area. Still I thought it was a good read.

Gideon Pearsall, once in love, was married but the marriage was

A continuation from the Effington series. The Last Man Standing is about the 4 friends of Jonathan Effington. After his marriage to Fiona the four men put down a wager on who would resist marriage the longest.

The heroine is a slightly scandalous widow, keeping discreetly inside the edge of propriety with the lovers she takes. The hero is just as discreet, and quite willing to begin the affair she proposes. But things are more intense than both of them want. They come together and it's wonderful—until one or the other of them makes a misstep. They're both definitely products of their society and yet both uniquely individual. This is just a lovely, lovely story about two people who think they're beginn ...more

This is a sexy and fun romp, with a thoughtful, and serious mystery. It is based on the series of The Last Man Standing. It seems that the marriage Mart, as our four handsome, and eligible men refer to it, is calling. They are all at an age, to take control of their lives, and settle into respectability. They set a wager, and each plan to be the last man standing. The Viscount, decides it would be safe to peruse a beautiful, but discreet widow. She does not want , or need marriage, and neither d ...more

Loved the book. Judith has been a widow for 10 yrs and has no desires to remarry because of how her marriage ended. Gideon knows he has to marry eventually a sweet, demure virginal bride but he doesn't want his heart involved. When his eyes meets Judith at a ball on twelfth night he knows he wants her and he wants the two of them to get a little bit wicked, ohhhh la la. Judith felt something also so when they finally meet at a musical it doesn't go accordingly like Judith's other adventures!! Th ...more

"Gideon had known Lady Chester for years, although he did not, in truth, know her at all. She was a passing acquaintance, someone to nod a greeting to on the street or exchange idle pleasantries with at a social gathering, nothing more than that. It was not until the Twelfth Night Ball she had hosted more than a month ago that what should have been little more than a few casual words between the two of them had without warning been fraught with something more significant and completely indefinab ...more

"A Little Bit Wicked" by Victoria Alexander is both hero and heroine: "this man was very, very good, and more than a little bit wicked. There was a great deal to be said for more than a little bit wicked" p59; she is "somewhat unconventional" p255, more after they meet p97 (his smile p299). Delightful persiflage triggers smiles, giggles. Gideon, Viscount

In A Little Bit Wicked, Judith, Lady Chester has always had a taste for the little pleasures in life, but still lives on the edge of respectability. Judith is beautiful, practical and enjoys life to its fullest. Judith comes across Gideon, Viscount Warton, and a simmering desire between them escalates to burning passion, for these two that are only looking for a lover, and no commitment. However what began has a intimate relationship with no love or affection, gradually turns into a adventure wh ...more

I finally read a historical romance...and surprisingly enough, saw a lot of similarities to my own plot! Now if only I could find the success that Victoria Alexander's achieved...

I was hesitant to start this book - I'm not a big Shakespeare fan, mostly due to the language, and wasn't sure if I'd have the same problem with this genre. Luckily, the language wasn't that archaic, and was actually very easy to read.

Strong characters (including a fairly feminist heroine), some aristocratic conniving,

A Little Bit Wicked, is the first in a series about four gentlemen with such an aversion towards marriage that they wager as to who will be the last one standing...who will be the last to succumb to societies dictates, something each titled man knows to be his eventual duty.

I was a bit unsure about this story after only a few chapters, but then became so involved I had a hard time putting it down. It turned out to be a very entertaining read, with characters that were easy to like...and one

So far im having a very hard time getting in to this book. She just goes on and on about stuff that's just not relevant. I swear this one sentence took up 5 lines. It was like 55 words! I mean, come on!

And If I read one more time about anyone wanting to be/or is being a "little bit wicked" im just gonna scream and throw the book! Im having a terrible time with this book! It normally takes me 1 day to read a book for this size and im on page 127 and it's been 4 days.

I was very upset that once his

This is just my opinion because I noticed a bunch of 4 & 5 stars for this historical romance. Typically, I like Victoria Alexander, but this book left me wanting. I was NOT looking or expecting porn or even erotica, but I did expect more than the author delivered.

Enough Said.

Please, read this novel and draw your own conclusions about two adults who enter into a romantic liaison...and behave as if they were in a ballroom that left them conversing rather than having adult sex.

Sometimes your heart knows what you want, even when your mind tells you different. And, it's always a great idea to have loyal, trustworthy friends to help you figure out what you really want before it's too late. And that my friends is what this book is about.

LOVED that the heroine of this book was not "pure." Judith, Lady Chester, is a widow, granted with the stereotypical bad first marriage, but, in the ten years since his death, she hasn't remained pure. She's had "adventures." Then she finds a man with whom she has explosive passion, Gideon Persall, Viscount Warton.
At first their affair is all about passion. But then, Gideon falls in love. Judith can't trust him so she runs away. But then she realizes that she loves him, he is nothing like her c

Judith and Gideon. LOVED him. I got so tired of her calling her affairs 'adventures'. Hated Violet as well.

I loved that the characters were a little bit older, and I loved that their relationship was also a mature one. I like strong, independent, unapologetically "experienced" heroines. But because the hero and heroine got together sexually so quickly the book didn't have the suspense and tension that usually hold my interest a little more. This was a pleasant book, but not compelling enough to be a 4- or 5-star one for me. However, I liked Alexander's writing and characterizations enough to make me ...more

This was the first book I ever read by Victoria Alexander. I've been keeping them all on the shelf until I had the whole series. (I'm strange like that, can't read it out of order, even though it's perfectly fine to read that way). Anyway, great book. This book has got me hooked. If I remember correctly, I read it in one afternoon. Both the hero and heroine are amazing. I highly suggest reading the whole series. And then start on the Effington (msp?) series. Great author, great books!

Awalnya sangat, sangat, sangat membosankan. Hingga aku butuh waktu berhari-hari hanya untuk menyelesaikan buku ini. Tapi bagian akhirnya (hanya beberapa lembar tepatnya) lumayan oke. Hmm, tapi kalau nyari HR, mungkin prefer yang lain saja x ya. :)
