5 stars – Paranormal/Sci-Fi Romance
I’ve had Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series on my TBR list for quite some time now, but I’m a little bit intimated by the number of books there are to get caught up on. The premise of The League series sounded interesting, the characters seemed intriguing, and with only three books produced so far, it felt a little less daunting of an undertaking. The main word that comes to mind to describe how I felt about this book is...WOW! And if it’s indicative of More...

I’ve been a huge fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s writing ever since I first discovered the Dark-Hunter series and that amazing hero, Acheron. When I heard about the re-release of The League series, I was thrilled until I learned it was Sci-Fi because I’m really not a big fan of the genre. Truthfully, the only other Sci-Fi book I have ever read and really liked, loved in fact, was The Host by Stephenie Meyer. The Host, like Born of Night was pretty light on the techie stuff which is why it worked for

Born of Night was a brilliantly written story that I thoroughly enjoyed. At 533 pages, the book is admittedly long. However, I can’t recall ever feeling like there were parts of the book that could have been excluded. To the contrary, the character development and level of detail used to describe the Ichidan Universe was perfect.
I completely fell in love with Nykyrian, who is a great addition to the tortured-soul heroes out there. Though Nykyrian certainly goes through hell, en More...

I loved this book. There are a few nitpicky things here and there that could have been improved on, but there was so many things that I loved that I can look past the bad.
This book is pretty much The Black Dagger Brotherhood in space. If you're a fan of the BDB, Zsadist in particular, then you'll probably love this as well.
Basically, the story centers around Nykyrian and Kiara, who couldn't be more different. Nykyrian is a highly skilled assassin who was tortured and abus More...

I was mesmerized by the Ichidian universe when I read the short story Fire and Ice in the Man of My Dreams anthology and when I realized Born of Night was about Adron’s parents I was instantly curious…And in the end disappointed.
For starters, it was 200 pages too long, giving Ms. Kenyon the opportunity to transform Kiara from a whiny, and slightly annoying heroine into an obnoxious, selfish, spoiled, judgmental brat. One of those heroine you wish for someone to rape, strangle, stab, More...

I really loved this book. Kenyon writes some of the best tortured heros. Now I must go read and see what Syn was really up to...

Oh. My. God!
This book kicked ASS! Major, huge rockin' ass! The characters were awesome, the setting was phenomenal, the plot was explosive, the writing (as always) was descriptive, the comedy was hilarious, and the action was smoldering!
In the Ichidian Universe, Nykyrian is the baddest of the bad. A renegade assassin from the League, he knows how to fight and has lived a SERIOUSLY sad, rough, hard life. Thrown into a human orphanage were he was treated worse than scum- b More...

Yes, Born of Night does very much have the feel of Kenyon's Dark-Hunters, and yes, Nykyrian reminded me a bit of Ash - but you know what? I don't care, I love it when bad boys go good and I liked the dangerous yet honorable assasin who is transformed by love and acceptance and his heroine Kiara with her own ghosts is pretty good too. If I had any issues with the story, they were that Kenyon so brutally abuses Nykyrian. Like Acheron and Zarek, Nyk has the abusive hellacious childhood and early l

The League series originally made it's debut in 1996. The books are being re-released, expanded and with new cover art.
Once an assassin for The League, Nykyrian is constantly being hunted down, with a price on his head. Now he fights to protect the innocent. He hasn't had the easiest life unloved and abused most of this life because of what he is, he has built a thick skin around himself letting no one in. That is until he takes on the protection of Kiara Zamir. She changes everythin More...

I will definitely be re-reading this book I just finished it last night and I'm sad but glad I get to reread this book. I was put through the motions while reading this book. It had me in tears and full of joy all at the same time. Still at times I felt giddy as a teenager in love for the first time. The characters in this book seemed so very alive to me as if I knew them in my own life. This is the kind of story that is for everyone male or female. It has action, suspense, and romance ohhh and

I think this is a classic Kenyon. I've read a couple of her historical novels (written under her alias Kinley MacGregor) and they all had the following in common:
* Hero had a horrible upbringing
* Mostly thanks to an unloving and violent father
* Hero has a (bad) reputation but is part of a secret DO GOOD organization, or family members are
* Danger! Peril! Somebody wants the hero or heroine death.
I find it quite intriguing that she makes these tropes work More...

This one is a tough book to categorize. It's technically sci-fi romance, but the storyline revolved around a world of assassins. The story did feature spaceships, other planets, and other races, but the main focus of the story shifted between the hero Nykyrian (and his tally of very detailed kills), and the woman Kiara that he was protecting.

Alright, so I love me some SK, but the prologue of this book did not spark my interest...and the beginning of the book did not grab me. So I set it aside because I had about 10 other books sitting on my coffee table. But all the reviews were great, so...I picked it up again a few weeks later. Boy am I ever glad I did. Didn't take too much longer for me to realize that I wasn't going to be able to put this one down.

I listened to the audio version of this book, I did not read it. I wish I would have read it instead. The narration wasa bad. The narrator of this book is the same narrator that does the Night Huntress series and she uses the same voices in both series. So that was distracting. I also felt like she too heavily interpreted the characters. Anyway, for me it is hard to separate out my experience listening to the narration from the book itself. I had some issues with the book -- all the back

This is quite different to the dark hunter series...not exactly paranormal romance more like fantasy or science fiction mixed with romance (not entirely sure). But this is still a great book. Basically Nykyrian is an ex League assassin and he is a rare one, i.e. there has never been an ex League assassin before him, you join the League and you die as they command. You can never leave. I like the new world Sherrilyn Kenyon has created for her League series. It is ruthless and dangerous and different from her other series'. This book appeared to be long and drawn out and just when you thought it was getting somewhere along came something else. I didn't have the same feeling for this book that I've had for most of her Dark Hunter books.
Having said that I did actually like her characters though you find yourself comparing them to the Dark Hunter characters. Right off th More...

I adored this book.
A huge fan of Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, I've been reluctant to try out The League series, simply because I'm not so keen on the science fiction genre.
In any case, I've been craving a new Kenyon story so decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did, and wish I had sooner. It was her characters that reeled me in, and everything else fell into place from there.

I am a big fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon after finishing her Dark-Hunter series so I thought I would give this a go. I generally don't like sci-fi/space/futuristic sort of stories much, but am always willing to give them a go. This book was not a disappointment. If you enjoy SK then I believe that you will like the League series. Action packed, suspenseful, heart-breaking, and full of romance and raunch.
Got to say though that my favourite part that sticks in my head for this book involves More...

In a galaxy far, far away…
But no, really. In the Ichidian Universe there is The League. The League trains ruthless assassins to carry out their missions throughout the galaxy. No questions asked. One night they’ve gone to far and Commander Nykyrian Quiakides cannot carry out his mission. Instead he defies his orders, takes the woman and child he was ordered to kill and gets them to safety where they can go on with their lives. Why I read this book:
This was another genre research book. Although I hadn't read anything by Sherrilyn Kenyon before, I had seen her name enough times while wondering through the book stores that I knew she had published many highly successful novels. Her publication record is pretty impressive (41 novels listed at Macmillan's author site). The back cover summary intrigued me. In this futuristic world, life is extremely harsh and many times cruel. The book setting recalled images of great 80's sci-fi movies: Dune, Mad Max, and Blade Runner. Our heroes are the anti-establishment, hardened outlaws that have a heart of gold underneath the rough exterior.
Our hero, Nykyrian Quiakides has lived a life that was so cruel and so outrageous that we are told he trusts no one and expects that eventually even his best friend will turn him in for profit. Then there is Kiara, our p More...

I really don't know what the big deal is with these SK books. I don't intend to be a victim of fan rage, SK is a great writer with a creative imagination, but when it comes to the characters, there was really nothing new. Sure, the setting was different, the group was different, and how about a little introduction? I felt like I stumbled in the middle of something.
I have to admit I was a little entertained but as I was reading this, it's just an average book with the generic angsty, More...

Born of Night is the first book by Sherrilyn Kenyon and it is cool to watch her characters grow into the dark hunters. Nykyrian is a tortured hero who wears glasses and was grossly abused coming up...remind you of anyone??

Hmmmm, this is another 'romance' book that my bride gave me to read. It is in a SciFi setting and overall it was an entertaining read. Now for specifics:
The SciFi setting was interesting but far too underdeveloped for my tastes. I like a living, breathing universe with well defined structures. That was lacking in this book. The basic structures were kind of outlined and far too much was left open or completely unexplored. Also (a big pet peeve of mine) the tech was poor. There was n More...

I've read quite a few of Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, and frankly this sounded a lot like a re-do of Acheron's book. True it's a different world (no vampires) but Nyk sounds and feels like Ash to me. That's not bad, necessarily, just not new. Maybe it's just that many Alpha males sound the same in romance novels?
One of my pet peeves about romance novels is how the endings (once the hero and heroine have 'hooked up') are rushed. Either the story ends like the author has a bus to c More...

I made it through the first hundred or so pages, and am sorry that I wasted that much effort on this book. Born of Night was written in the mid-80's, originally published in the mid-90's, then went out of print. I think it should've remained that way.
The female protagonist was irritating and unlikable. Period.
The male protagonist was flat and uninteresting. He's basically a penis with a body attached to it, for all we see of his personality. Based on the Dark Hunter serie More...
