I am always reading this. When the year ends, I just begin again. God is the most important part of my life. Without Him there is nothing.

There are bibles and there is bibles that are different from the rest.

If you like devotionals as I do but like the two-in-one kind. Then In His Image devotional bible is the answer.

Tyndale is best known for their bibles and devotionals. I have two of the ONE YEAR devotionals. Each new bible that this book publisher comes out tends to be always unique, there are specialty bibles meant for kids, teenagers, for Moms, for busy dads.

So what is this bible for, what sets ...more

Starting with the cover, the first thing that I notice is a nice calming water, with a tree blossoming forth. Then in a light grey there are words across the middle that pretty much name it all... "faithful...just...holy...good...merciful...righteous...loving..." The next thing that I notice is the size, this hardcover Bible is right about the same size as a regular trade paperback book and provides a familiar feeling to my hands. "In His Image". What could be a more appropri...more

I've been trying to slowly read through book by book. I'm following a plan that my Church put together, but I'm doing it on my own timing instead of sticking to a certain schedule. I'll keep a brief record below of my reading:

Genesis - Awesome from start to finish. Reading the stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were a huge encouragement to me!

Exodus - Surprisingly interesting. I thought I would get bored with all the details about the tabernacle, but I found it fasci...more

I thought I would try the New Living Translation just to infuse a bit of freshness into my devotional life. No freshness here, just short, choppy sentences which lack beauty and grandeur. Give me a NKJV, a KJV, a NASB, or an ESV any day over this translation. Maybe if I were a poor reader, this one would work. Temporarily. I can't imagine staying in it for a whole year.

The One Year Bible is available in other translations as well, but I really prefer to use a simple chart to read t...more

I do have to say, the language in this New Living Translation feels a little trying-to-hard at times. The message is the same, but in the translators attempt to be hip it comes off a bit silly in it's wording. I'd probably have preferred NIV or NAS, but it was a gift and it's still God's word and a great discipline, encouragement and reminder of His truths each day.
Read it in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and again in 2010. Fantastic way to keep daily focus. Might try a different tr...more

2012 Reading Resolution: I'm doing the chronological reading plan on biblos.com to read the Bible in the year. I'm using the New International Version after a minimal amount of research*, and reading a bit of Albert Barnes' notes on verses that strike my curiosity.

I'm also using a pamphlet called "Friendly Bible Study" by Joanne and Larry Spears as a guide for reading. It has a set of questions to keep in mind while reading:

1-What is the author's main point ...more

As a Christian, I had been wanting to finish the entire Bible for most of my life. The Bible being made up of 66 books, that's a daunting task. In the summer of 2008 I found this Bible at a bookstore and decided to buy it. I started it on January 1, 2009. The NLT is easily my favorite translation of the Bible and in my opinion the easiest to read. The way that the One Year Bible breaks up the readings into four sections (Old Testament, New Testament, Pslams, and Proverbs) makes it easier to...more

I can't really comment on the translation, or the text itself, any more than has already been said except to say that I personally find the NLT version highly readable and much more approachable than most other translations for a new or (physically) young Christian.

With that said, a few comments on the particulars:

I can see why they market these Bibles to teens, but they're also great if you're just generally hard on books -- the metal cover is next-to-impossible to destroy, and the design comp...more

The Holy Bible: Mosaic NLT, recently released by the folks at Tyndale, is unlike any other Bible I’ve seen. It’s not a study bible. There are no notes in the text of the scriptures (aside from footnotes and cross-references to accompany the New Living Translation text – more on that in a minute). In fact, they went so far as to completely separate the scriptures out from the “Meditations” material, even using different types of paper to distinguish them further. I really appreciate this approach...more

I grew up reading the King James Version ("KJV") of the Bible. A few years ago I laughed at modern Bible translations. "They don't even come close to the historic and poetic language of the KJV," I would argue.

That was until I actually picked up the New Living Translation ("NLT") and read the whole thing. It was refreshing! I could actually understand the Bible! I especially enjoyed the NLT's thought-for-thought translation. This is important becaus...more

I found that it was a really good text to read. The New Living Translation is the Holy Bible written in English language that is more plain and modern than the original translation. Don't do what I did and try and read all of the Psalms/Proverbs in one go! Read a few a day as you move through the historic, prophetic, gospel, and epistle sections of the text! For me personally I found reading all 150 or so Psalms a little heavy and because I didn't break it up I don't remember too many of them.

Okay, this book will never leave my "currently reading" list at all. This book, the Bible, is a book that I need each day ~ without it I cannot live life. It is the breathe of God and bread of my life, without it, I am lost!!

I don't think I will ever techincally finish the Bible whether I read it from front to back. I like the NLT translation just because it is very easy to understand and read. It puts the Bible in layman terms. When doing different bible studies I have enjoyed using this version because it helps me to answer the questions more easily since it is such an easy translation. If you are new to the Bible then this translation is a great starter. If you have been reading different translations for a long ...more

This translation is unique in that the translators try to recreate the intended effect and meaning that the original writer's intended to their time and culture.
It is very unusual that I like this translation (which takes MANY liberties in it's word usage, and translation), and the NASB (New American Standard Bible). The NASB is the most accurate word-for-word translation that really doesn't differ from King James except a more understandable sentence structure and some different words (so...more

Unlike any other. Can be read and re-read daily and it's as if it's a new book. Alive with love, hope, failure and redemption. Shakespeare drew from it; every author and artist is influenced by it. It informs everything created. This particular translation I like because it seems that the words were matched with the original words, but for meaning instead of just to word to word (which can get almost impossible). The language is very current - and jumps off the page because of that -without...more

From Tyndale House comes a new Bible specifically designed for those recovering from addiction of any kind. Based on the 12 step model, this Bible can be used by anyone needed support or encouragement as they learn to trust God using His Word in battling addiction.

The 12 step model that is generally associated with addiction to drugs or alcohol, but this model can be used for a variety of addictive behavior patterns. Woven into The Life Recovery Bible NLT are key areas that can assi...more

I bought this on October 17th AD 2007 and finished it this morning, August 13th AD 2011, a wee bit longer than one year...not a very good translation, easy to read--too easy, as in it's so simple that it drags like a difficult translation does. But the footnotes--though sparse--make up for it with their accuracy.

...though, I didn't read this entirely--I has alreday read the entire text of the NT with notes (it's the same notes) as found in the "New Believer's Bible: New Testamen...more

I read the new testament this past year, and just finished it off. i thought that it was awesome! It is filled a great message of a loving God, and an obedient son. It taught the teachings of Jesus Christ, how he was born of a virgin, and raised as a perfect child, obedient and perfect. He was friends with sinners and saints, he did not judge any man, but told them of what is to come, and how to follow in his footsteps.
Jesus died on the cross to open the gates of heaven to all t...more

As I have mentioned a couple of times on this blog, I have come to really appreciate approaching the Bible devotionally. One of the ways such an approach can be bolstered is with a devotional Bible (surprise! :) ).

I recently received a copy of the In His Image Devotional Bible. The purpose of this Bible is to notice and meditate on the various characteristics of God throughout the ...more

When it comes to Bibles, I’m not a purist. I have 15 different kinds by my bedside right now, and even more shelved away. I love the poetic grandness of the King James just as much as the gritty earthiness of the Message. I use the ones with the theological annotations just as much as the ones with loose personal interpretations. I love Bibles. Period. So when I heard of Tyndale’s latest one, I was excited about getting a copy to review.

I was excited, not just because I was going to ad...more

If you are looking for a user-friendly, kid-friendly, or even child-like adult-friendly readable bible, this is the one for you.

With vibrant colors and full of features, The Hands-on Bible is wonderful for children.

There are so many useful features and all geared to address a child's way of learning. Features such as Character Bios, Time lines, Crafts, Experiments, and Fun Facts.

I found the 'Jesus Connection' feature to be the best. It is a short feature that ...more

The revised edition of Tyndale Press' Hands-On Bible (NLT) was shipped to me a few weeks ago for review. I requested the bible for two reasons: I've never read from the New Living Translation and was curious to see it, and it looked like a must-have tool for anyone ever thinking about doing any bible-related activities with kids. As an often church volunteer and a one-day-to-be father, I thought this would be a nice addition to the plethora of other bibles lying around. As it turns out, I was co...more

The Life Recovery Bible is indeed a very interesting Bible. It is not your normal study Bible. This is a Bible that is set up to help folks who are struggling against addictions and bad habits. The Bible text is the New Living Translation and is saturated with notes and articles.
The Life Recovery Bible is set up with notes on Scriptures just as any other study Bible is. What makes it unique is the fact that the notes are specifically slanted (for lack of a better word) toward helping ...more

The Bible is a difficult book to review.

After all, it is the Bible, which carries a LOT of baggage. As the sacred scripture of over 1 billion people, its impact on the lives and minds of those who view it as The Book is difficult for a secular reader to appreciate fully. Moreover its influence on two thousand years of human history and culture cannot be overstated. That said, it is not really a book for general reading, nor was it ever intended to be. It is hard to consider it a boo...more

I wanted to learn more about the Holy Bible: Mosaic NLT so I signed up for the tour. I was unfamiliar with the New Living Translation, since I mostly use the King James Version and the NKJV Bibles. I come with an open mind and heart to further my knowledge of God’s Word.

I am not a theological student or professional Bible scholar, and I know little about “formal-equivalence” and “dynamic equivalence translations,” but I do know that the NLT has been created to relay a contemporary E...more

I'm going to give my mother this Bible for Mother's day, I think she would really enjoy it. I like how this Bible makes daily reading easy, all you have to do is just turn to today's date & start reading. The readings take about fifteen minutes. But If your really short on time you could always read part of the section in the morning & the other part in the evening. If your looking for a daily devotional Bible this would defiantly be a good choice.
(I own a copy of this Bible, so thought I ...more

If you’re like many of my friends, you probably made a new year’s resolution to read through the Bible in a year. While I hope the majority of you have made good on your resolution thus far, inevitably some of you are struggling or may have stopped doing it all together. When it comes to disciplines like reading our Bible each day and prayer, our minds are only too ready to help us come up with many excuses why we didn’t get to it yesterday, won’t be able to do it today, and what it is that wi...more
