One Last Weekend by Linda Lael Miller

A very very short story about a couple that have been married for 20 years on the cusp of divorce, going for one last weekend to the cottage that they have had many happy memories in.

It was okay, but very short and seemed to basically be a few sex scenes strung between a few scenes of them arguing. But it was only about 60 pages long, so not much to judge it one!

This gets filed on my romance and paranormal bookshelves because of these three stories, two are romance and the last (Laurenston's) is paranormal. I imagine this will be a bit off-putting to those not into shapeshifters and witches...so those of you just looking for romance may want to skip the last story.

That being said, the last story was my favorite. I would give it 4 stars. The first two stories were fairly unforgettable in the way that they are like hundreds of other romance stories....nic...more

One Last Weekend - Linda Lael Miller

Empty nesters on verge of divorce spend one last week end at beach cottage. OK story.

You Give Love A Good Name - Jennifer Apodaca

Very good & fun story - aspiring author/wedding planner is being stalked. And sued ... by a drunk groom who she injured in a hilarious manner when he became amorous. Sexy bounty hunter tracks her down ... very cute!

Technically, this review and rating are for My Kind of Town. I skimmed the other two stories, and they were both good, normal, touching, and erotic, but I read this book for Laurenston's story. Finding another novella/short story/book in a series you enjoy is like getting an unexpected Christmas present. I did not know there was a Long Island Coven series, but I love My Kind of Town more than I love The Wolf, the Witch, and Her Lack of Wardrobe. Emma and Kyle are the wacky kind of funny that I a...more

Aside from the goofy titles, I like anthologies because they are excellent sources for new authors to read. If I were to have walked into a store and saw this book, I probably would not have purchased it. I did so because of Linda Lael Miller and Jennifer Apodaca. And both stories were pretty good.

I wasn't familiar with the third author Shelly Laurenston, and frankly the story didn't appeal to me and seemed out of place in this book. In all fairness, her writing appealed to me, so in the future...more

3 stories - I'll review as I go.

1. One Last Weekend by Linda Lael Miller. Divorcing couple Teague and Joanna go to their cottage for one last weekend before their divorce is final. The ending is as expected but the way the story is told is very good. Had me crying. Good story. ***

2. You Give Love a Good Name by Jennifer Apodaca. Cute, predictable story. Lexie met Nick at his sister's wedding. She was the wedding planner. They part after only kissing because she doesn't do one-night stands. Mont...more

In case it's not obvious, Sun, Sand & Sex is an anthology of three stories each with the theme of...er...sun, sand and sex. I like it when books are titled like that. It keeps things nice and simple.

The three stories are fairly straightforward in that the plots are simply basic romances. There are no twists or surprises, at least not for the reader, and as such, are pure entertainment and escapism.

ONE LAST WEEKEND By Linda Lael Miller: When Teague and Joanna Darby's divorce lawyer and the couple's mutual friend Ted, tells them that a trip to their cottage could be all it takes to save their marriage. The couple was less then enthusiastic. But when a series of storms leaves them stranded at the cottage, it isn't long before they find the spark needed to save their marriage, with the added surprise of a new baby.

LINDA LAEL MILLER
One Last Weekend
College sweethearts Teague and Joanna Darby, once passionately in love, are on the brink of divorce. When a ferry strike leaves them stranded together at their beloved beach cottage, it could be the most awkward weekend ever. Or the perfect chance to fall for each other all over again-one steamy encounter at a time.

One Last Weekend by Linda Lael Miller
Read this for a Featured Author challenge. Liked it well enough. Loved Sammy the dog, and quite enjoyed the couples interactions. Probably wont rush to read any more of hers though.
You Give Love A Good Name by Jennifer Apodaca
This story was okay too, nothing really stood out apart from the stapling incident.
My Kind of Town by Shelly Laurenston
Probably my favourite of the three, but again, probably wont read more of these anytime soon.

My Kind of Town by Shelly Laurenston

Government. Experiment.
This are the two words that made me fall completely in love with the book. In a perfectly Laurenston style both the heroine and the hero were insane in the cutest way possible.
Still am I the only one that thinks My Kind of Town is a bit unfinished?! I doubt it. At the end I actually thought I have skipped some pages accidentally. So 4 stars for this read & I look forward to reading about Jamie.

I only read Laurenston's contribution and, like everything from her, I really enjoyed it. The 'world' is the same to that of her Magnus Pack and Pride books - shifters live alongside mostly unsuspecting humans - but in this novella we are introduced to humans (women) who live (secondary) lives as witches and are recruited to help shield a shifter small town (and yes! there are Smiths) from humans. Typical Laurenston humor ensues making for a fun, enjoyable read!
Brandi
As a fan of Linda Lael Miller and , especially, Shelly Laurenston, I had to read this anthology. Though all three novellas were funny, sexy and enntertaining, I was partial to Laurenston's My Kind of Town, which takes you to one of many towns inhabited by Smith's and their interesting kin. It was funny as hell and makes me want to go back and read my other Laurenston book again.

If you look at the cover, this appears to be a Linda Lael Miller book. I was put out that her story was just 60 pages--One-sixth of the book. I really enjoyed Laurenston's story and have added her to my new authors to read list. I just got tired of Apodaca's story. It had way too many yuck moments--flat out treacle. She's on my do not buy list.

I would give Shelly Laurenston's My Kind of Town 4 stars. I love her writing and her shifters. She always gives her readers a funny and sexy story. The Smith are always good for a fun read and so are their fellow shifters. Witches! I even liked them in this story. Laurenston made this book a worthwhile read and a very enjoyable one.

To be fair, I admit that I am only reviewing this on the basis of Shelly Laurenston's short story. I read one of the other two, but if I included it, my rating would be lower.
I like the introduction of a complete town full of various shape-shifters and witches. I also liked that one of the characters was a hybrid. I cracked up re: the description of the hybrid as having a snaggle tooth. It was a pretty good story overall. I can't wait to read more stories of this town and its "citizens."
Shay
I only read Shelly Laurenston's short story.
It was a nice story about witches and shifters, but still a bit flat and the world building of her witches wasnt very good.
Maybe it will get better in the next one.
If you are a Shelly Laurenston fan read it anyway, it is still a fast, funny romance.
:)

Dawn ♥ romance
I got this book of steamy stories for Shelly Laurenston and it was only one I liked. (LLM) Teague & Joanna try to save their marriage. (JA) Bounty Hunter Nick finds Lexie hiding from stalker ...skimmed. (SL) Emma gets into accident and Deputy Kyle rescues ... part of shifter series.
Keri
I'm only rating the short story My Kind of Town by Shelly Laurenston. She's the only reason why I even got this book. As always, another fun read. One to make you LOL. Be sure to read the sequel to it The Wolf, the Witch, and Her Lack of Wardrobe (which is even funnier).

thought the 1st two stories were worth the time. Unfortuantely, the 3rd, leaning more toward paranormal w/ witches and shapeshifters, I skipped b/c I wasn't in the mood at the time. Maybe later.

I only read the Long Island Witch Coven story "My Kind of Town" which was cute and very much early Laurenston - although the heroine is sweet and shy instead of psycho for a change.
Airaseem Perdomo
Ok so I only read My kind of Town by shelly Laurenston. It was a great story. The characters had attitude that interest the reader to enjoy the story and have fun to while rewarding. It was simple and right to the point. But not totally simple but well put and it was just an amazing story.
Mandy
This book was pretty lame. It was not near as fun as the other "smut" novels I enjoy. The last story completely threw me off as it was more of an animal sex story...slightly odd!
Arzella
I only read one story. The Laurentson Long Island Coven story. All I can say is that is that if she decided to write full novels about this group, I'm reading all of them. Anyone that can be asked nicely to leave Hell and never return has my full attention.
Sandy
I only read the first story, and could barely wrap my head around the name Teague.

Not a bad story, nothing really new here though
BonnieL
Lousy title, two really bad stories, but the one good story - by Shelly Laurenston - ensured the book wasn't a complete waste of time.
Caitlin
Shelly Laurenston's short story was awesome. I loved the town Emma finds herself in. Its wierd as hell with hot people every where.
Allison
The first two stories were fine - nothing spectacular, but I couldn't make it entirely through the last one.
